Rumor: Carlos Hyde feeling Blue

Submitted by 1464 on

(Disclaimer about grains and salt.)

A friend of mine who also happens to be an OSU fan told me that he heard a rumor on the radio regarding Carlos Hyde thinking about transferring to Michigan.  I asked if he meant Dunn, but he reiterated that he meant Hyde.

I know that Hyde has been pretty vocal about his disappointment with the Buckeyes and his role in the offense.  That much is open information down here in Cbus.  I didn't directly hear the nature of the Michigan rumor, but thought I would relay it anyway.

Enjoy all the premature speculation guys.

Carlos Hyde may not have to sit out if he transfers ... it all depends on tee sanctions levied against Ohio State, and the duration of the sanctions. If the NCAA decides to impose a 2 year post season ban on Ohio State that would begin next year, then Hyde's last 2 years would come under a postseason ban. This is 1 scenario where the NCAA has been known to approve a transfer without a player sitting out.

"The NCAA has become stricter when it comes to denying waiver requests when the motivation for the transfer involves a coaching change or even infractions handed down by the NCAA. One exception is if the committee on infractions puts a team on probation that bans it from postseason play. If a player's eligibility is set to expire during that the postseason ban, then that player can transfer immediately without sitting out. There are extenuating circumstances, such as the case of Baylor during the aftermath of Patrick Dennehy's murder by teammate Carlton Dotson. The sanctions Baylor faced weren't yet known but players on that team -- John Lucas III and Lawrence Roberts -- were allowed to transfer and play immediately at Oklahoma State and Mississippi State, respectively. He openly complained that he thought he was being mishandled by the coaching staff on twitter. I've watched some OSU games, facts are, Hall and Herron are just better. He's just not happy about PT IMO. I'm guessing his transfer will be blocked, so if he wants to walk on here, I have no problem with that. But I just don't think I'd want him on my team when he thinks he's entitled to more PT. What happens if Fitz starts over him or a freshman moves ahead of him on the depth chart. Not to mention the annoying media attention because a Buckeye transferred to Michigan. As well as constant comparisons to Boren. More trouble than it's worth. JMO

Why would this be a bad thing? OSU fans loved it when the media played up the Michigan-to-OSU story with Boren. It made them look good and us look bad. If the media were to do the reverse, I'd be perfectly fine with that.

Hyde would be the unofficial symbol of the shift in the dynamic of the rivalry.

My only concern over any Ohio transfer is whether the player would be so used to their system of illegal benefits that he would seek them wherever he goes next.  OTOH, imagine how cool it would be if Hyde became a Wolverine and then told the NCAA the truth about what happens in Columbus.

A school that cheats as much as Ohio does should be more afraid of disgruntled transfers spilling the beans than any actual on the field opponent.

Not really a question for you specifically but rather the board in general but is there any reason I cant read the collapsed posts for trolling, flamebait, ect?  I used to be able to but it wont let me expand them now and it makes reading these threads difficult.

Yea....I'm not to worried about that one. If not dunn then I am willing to wait for Ty Isaac in 2013 to come in with morris and hopefully treadwell.

(1) Sounds a bit high maintenance to me (i.e. he is unhappy at OSU because he is not getting enough touches now that Boom Herron is back)
(2) He would need to sit out a year
(3) Per B10 rules, he would have to be a walk-on (I'm pretty sure the B10 has a rule the blocks transfers inside the conference from getting a scholarship at the second school; Boren had this problem when he transferred to OSU)

1) boom herron just came back and is a senior along with being a different kind of back. Hyde also has 78 touches which isn't bad since they were trying to force the passing game for the first 4 games.

2) happens with all transfers

3) can take out a college loan

Hyde was upset after the Illinois game, which was the first game Herron was back. After the game, Hyde tweeted out something like "guess I'm not good enough; maybe I should go elsewhere". That tells me he is a bit of a prima donna, for exactly the reason you said - Boom is one of the best RBs in the league and will be gone next year, but Hyde is whining about having to wait until he's gone.

won the starting job in camp and rightfully deserved so and basically put the team on his back for the first 5 games then a guy who was suspended for the first 5 games and automatically gets his spot back i'd be pretty pissed as well.

Of course it's my opinion. Just like what you post is yours. The kid's suspension is over. His fulfiled his punishment. Why should he stay benched after his suspension is over if he's the best player? I'm sure Herron was working his ass off as well while he was suspended. It's an even playing field now and the best players play.

Whether or not the coach made the right decision is not the point. It's the coach's decision who plays. If he decides to play the more experienced player (or any other player, for that matter), that's his call. Michigan does not need players who will be complaining over twitter and threatening to transfer whenever they disagree with the coaches.

He seems too big of a risk to be a distraction to a team.

All I can think about is the guy who steals someone's girlfriend, and then is surprised and upset when she leaves him for someone else in the future.  I don't want to be that guy.

Not totally implausible since he's not actually from the State of Ohio. He has no family ties or deeply-held allegiances that would keep him tied to Ohio State.

But having to pay his own way would probably be a deal-breaker.

So a kid from Naples, FL who is playing for OSU and is on pace for about 750 rushing yards as a true sophomore is contemplating an intra-conference transfer that's even further from home that will force him to pony up 35K/year for the priviledge? That's probably not happening.

If that's what he wants, more power to him. But why does he want to come to MIchigan? To stick it to Ohio St? The kid obviously felt entitled to PT. He shouldn't have tweeted his displeasure. Work hard and practice and do your best when you're in the game. Control what you can control, don't whine.

Make sure you read my book about how Rich Rodriguez was mistreated while at Michigan. Comes out next week! Listen to me speak at the alumni function in Fort Wayne on Wednesday too.

Just kidding, I wish I was John U. Bacon. Sadly, I'm just a mere fan sitting on his computer watching TV on a Friday night.
