Rumor: Braxton Miller transferring! To FSU! ....or maybe Duke.... wtf?

Submitted by Decatur Jack on

RUMORZ? RUMORZ.

So it looks like the bomb has dropped:

It's been no secret lately that Braxton Miller's interest in transferring out of Ohio State is certainly growing, especially with the realization that J.T. Barrett may just slide back into his starting role next spring.

And then this and this:

#FSU has been told it's on list of schools Ohio State QB Braxton Miller is interested in playing for next year.

Apparently Duke(?!?) is also in the mix. Via Duke.247sports.com and Duke's SB Nation site and FanSided.

It's all just rumorz at this point, but who cares? RUMORZ IS FUN YO

As I mentioned in another post...Everett Golson could be transferring too.

Should be interesting.

Braxton at FSU would be comical...they'd also be damn good, yet again.

Edit: Cody Kessler also looked to be a possible transfer before he started tearing it up late in the year. Now he seems like a lock to return as the starter. But the highly touted backups were about to surpass him and he was a prime candidate for the 5th year transfer at midseason. Not so much anymore, they love him at SC right now.

Edit #2: Jeff Driskel at UF could also be on the move. A bunch of rumors about him transferring from UF.

between him and the other two?  Its not a terribly big drop off in talent, maybe experience but I think the other two they had playing this year did just fine.  I'd rather see him at a team that isn't already in the playoff, but hey...as long as it isn't the B1G.

If I were a Buckeye fan, I might feel a little edgy about Miller leaving. I hope both Miller and Barett fully recover, but there are no guarantees.  Barrett's inury, which included a dislocated ankle was severe, and there is a possibility tha he will not have the same speed and agility next year. Miller's shoulder should recover, but again, after two surgeries, there are no guarantees.

Maybe it's my perception, but Meyer's offensive scheme seems to be one that is not QB friendly.

but I don't know enough about Miller's shoulder or Barrett's ankle injuries to make a call.  My observation was basically assuming that both return to (somewhat) full capability by the start of next season.  Missing Spring ball for Miller is less of a big deal with his experience vs Barrett or Jones.

His best bet would be Oregon or Texas for a year. Jimbo and Florida State like to stretch the field vertically in the pass game and, umm, let's just say Braxton doesn't do that very well.

Now they'll have to rely on their other Heisman candidate or the guy who learned QB competency against Michigan only to go on to completely destroy Wisconsin. They're so screwed...

I don't think Oregon is a great fit...especially not for one year.

Love the Texas suggestion, however, they do have Swoopes coming back. He hasn't been anything special, but he's just finally grasping what they want to be and bringing in Braxton may hurt that development.

Just depends on if they'll take an upgrade even though it may upset the apple cart.

Arizona would be a good fit if they didn't have a returning guy. How crazy would THAT be?

Regardless of anyone's opinion, it has to be very disenheartening to suffer an injury that ends his season and then to watch his starting job essentially evaporate right in front of him. I can't imagine a bigger blow to a player's confidence than something like that, so perhaps it is better to go elsewhere and get a fresh start where you know you will have a shot to, well, start. I wish him well.

but I agree completely if he's healthy. With some it's hindsight, with others not so much but we can almost all agree that Denard shouldn't have been a full time QB in the Hoke era (definitely not his Sr year). Miller is already thick and can run like a HB. Heck, if he has hands use him in an H-Back/Slot role. I'd use him in just about every offensive position but QB, osu or elsewhere. It's about his future now. The question is if he's truly healthy and that shoulder is finally ok to take hits. If not? Take the money, degree & run.

I know they list him at 215 (which I don't believe), but he's thin. Denard had a small upper body due to the strength and conditioning program trying to maintain upper-body flexibility, so that he could throw, but he also had a very thick lower body, like a RB. Miller doesn't have that.

If anything, if he's switching positions, Miller should try to be a WR. Miller is much more scat than Denard was (while Denard could cut, he was always more of a patient, one cut type runner, which fits well at RB), and with his frame and length, I think would make a more viable slot that you could potentially move around, even into the backfield on occasion. But I don't see his body holding up well with that much beating and that much additional muscle mass he'd need to fill out into a RB body.

but Miller is thick enough, IMO. Yet, I think it's moot because I agree with the WR/Slot/Offensive Terror role. Again, if healthy I think HB works be a very viable option but I don't think his shoulder is "constant contact" durable. In fact, based on his days in HS (close connections to that school) he's always had shoulder issues. It's why if given one position I'd call WR/Slotbug

Maybe Oregon is not considering him.  Oregon does have four other QB's that have been in the system for one to three years plus an incoming freshman.  Miller may not be better than the other QB's on Oregon's roster.

They were a 96 yard kick return away from going 10-3 this year and it's no secret how great Cutcliffe is with QBs.  Braxton needs all the help he can get if he thinks he can play QB in the NFL.

The guy is NOT an NFL QB. Not even close. That's not a UM homer fan talking (I'm not one, btw) but a football fan talking. He's as much an NFL QB as Denard was/is. That said, his shoulder is either healed completely to the point that it can take hits or he is a 22yr old Peyton Manning in the "DON'T TOUCH HIS SHOULDER!!" department. If healthy, he needs to do what we should have with Denard and play damn near any position BUT QB if he wants any NFL career. Simply playing again under any capacity defers his insurance ($1M, IIRC). Assuming he wants an NFL career & is healthy, you make him a HB/FB/HBack/Slot TE, WR, ATH, etc. Don't hamper his development by paying him at QB, the position he won't be in the NFL. If he knows he's essentially another Tebow (minus the image to make millions through endorsements), have fun playing QB at the place with the best win:degree ratio OR take the insured $1M and call it a football career. Whatever you do, if he has goals of playing in the NFL, he should be the QB if you only have a Sheridan-like option. Even then, you make it a package thing. IMO, I think his shoulder is still a problem in regard to fragility. That shoulder has had issues since his HS years. If I were him, I'd look out for myself and transfer to Duke in the guise of playing for them. They take over my insurance. I get on scholarship. I "retire" by literally doing it or "re-injuring" my shoulder late in fall camp. I get a degree from Duke. I take the million & start my football free life with two valuable head start pieces. Maybe I start a business? Maybe I pay for more schooling in a great profession? I dunno, that's just me if not 100%. If so, play but not much QB and try to make an NFL team.
