RR Will Be Coach for the Next Month

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on

This can be locked and doesn't require discussion but instead thrown up to decimate the Lynn Henning article and the 9 other bs notions that have gone out and around the past week:

UM Ath Dept officials told WTKA that the evaluation of the football program will be like all teams -- after the season, including postseason (HT: MichiganInsider)

Rodriguez will not be fired Monday. He will not be fired after the game Saturday to a chorus of boos by the OSU faithful. He will not be fired in the Shoe. He will not be fired with a fox, he will not be fired in a box.

tl;dr version: Successful Reporter Troll is Successful

Heard about a "rumor" re: some "big announcement" on Monday regarding M-Football. Add it to the rumor rubbish pile! Happy Thanksgiving!

And thanks for actually taking the time to explain your views.

But, please realize that I wasn't trying to break news.  I actually heard this weeks ago and did sit on it.  I only mentioned it after the Henning peice was already out there, as a way of suggesting that we couldn't just laugh it off like his recruiting rankings.  I also think there is a difference between professional (in the sense they are paid) journalists and those who comment on a blog.  I agree that folks like Valenti and Caputo don't live up to the higher standard.  That's why I don't listen to them.

Finally, I think that some of the reaction here is due to the fact the infoirmation didn't match want people here wanted to hear.

Bottom line - Thank you for a thoughtful reply.  I think we actually agree on a lot, but I will certainly think twice before I post anything approaching "news" again.

Don't know where else to post this; sorry if it doesn't fit here.

I obviously can't speak from the OSU view, nor can I represent what MSU folks are thinking.  However, re: the "MSU/OSU fans love RR" meme, I don't agree that keeping RR is best for MSU/OSU.  Quite simply, it scares the crap out of me to think what M would do to us with additional years of development on the offensive side of the ball, and with an even average defense.  That's not something that in coming years seems far-fetched either.

Contrarily, it seems to me that firing RR would send M further into a tailspin that would be tough for any coach to pull out of.

Thus I presume that, deep down, thoughtful MSU/OSU fans are aware of this and are dreadfully anticipating the day it materializes if RR is kept.  I agree with those who suggest looking to Oregon to see what the future for M holds with RR at its head.

Most MSU and OSU fans know that if RR gets enough time to fully install his system with his people and takes care of his defensive deficiencies, they will be losing to their most hated rival for a long time.

As for Harbaugh, he went 4-8, 5-7, and 8-5 in his first three years at Stanford, starting with a semi-decimated roster.  This year, he is 10-1 so far.  RR has gone 3-9, 5-7, and has seven wins so far this year, with eight wins a very good probability because a loss to OSU would knock them into a shitty bowl with an easy opponent.  The records are almost the same, and Harbaugh had a decent QB to start out with, while RR had Sheri-threet.

So, other than his Michigan heritage, why on earth would rivals want to see Michigan keep RR, but fear Harbaugh so much?

Harbaugh is a good coach, but hiring anyone to change back to a pro set when the roster is finally populated with the right people to run the spread option would cause yet another two or three years of losing.

I have a feeling our rivals would love to see that.

be converted to a pro-style offense better than most think.  You utlize Gardner or Tate as the QB, you have enough RBs on the roster to make that work, and the receivers would work.  My one concern is the line and I think that's doable.

Besides a better defense can lead to more wins than even the best offense with the D's that RR has come up with (3 years in a row of *terrible* MIchigan defenses).
