RR donates Michigan wardrobe

Rich Rodriguez donated his Michigan wardrobe to the Salvation Army and it will be sold on Saturday at the Wayne Store on Michigan Ave.  Items will start at $6.00.

http://www.freep.com/print/article/20110113/SPORTS06/110113057/Rich-Rodriguez-donates-432-Michigan-items-to-Salvation-Army

I remain a fan of the coach and he certainly could have pitched this stuff.  It's nice that he took the time to donate it.

BTW - The article says his friends are taking him someplace warm for the weekend.  I'm sure that's what I would want too in the same situation.

A lot of people are now calling his tenure a complete and utter failure.  Many of those same people were arguing that he deserved a 4th year only 2 weeks ago.  Now, I'm not saying that these two statements are mutually exclusive, but I do think that revisionist history post-fire looks at RR in a much worse light.

The fact of the matter is that a majority  of people wanted him back for a 4th year.  This doesn't mean his firing was a mistake.  But I hope it shows that people still believed in RR at the time he left.  That he could have turned it around in his 4th year.

RR was a good man and a good coach.  Wish him nothing but the best.  This was a class act.

The Majority of us that wanted him back, mostly wanted him back because we didn't see a viable replacement. But those same people recognized that the defense was a disaster, not just because of the freshmen playing, but because they weren't prepared properly (IMO) and weren't aligned in most situations that were conducive to them being in position to make plays. Everyone knew that a change had to be made on the defense, or else we would be in the same boat. I will always back RR, but I hope he makes better decisions in regards to his defensive coaching staff in the future.

That was my point.  Everyone has always blamed the bad defense on being young, but if you really watched it wasn't a case of youth.  The coaches never gave those kids a chance to make a play.  They were unprepared and not "coached up" for what was coming their way.

That's why I'm so ready for the "They're bad because they're young" meme to expire.

I agree with this completely.  I don't think he was ever given much support internally after he was hired, either from the current administration and boosters or former players and coaches.  It's a shame, really, because it felt like a lot of people associated with the program were willing to let it go through all these troubles just so they could be rid of RR.  I have nothing but hope for our new coach, but I also feel a bit saddened and disappointed by the way the RR era was handled.  I really do think he could have succeeded here.  Granted, he made some mistakes (particularly with his DCs), but I think he'll be vindicated when he moves on someplace else and succeeds.

I have to confess, that while I don't wish for any massive or long-term failure for Michigan at this point, if, hypothetically, a Brady Hoke-led Michigan team faced a Rich Rodriguez-led Clemson or Tennessee or UConn team in a bowl on January 1, 2013, I'd root for Rodriguez's team.  Just to watch heads asplode in Ann Arbor and in the editorial offices of the Detroit Free Press.  I am not fucking kidding.

Click the "Source" button on the left side above the text box.  THEN paste the hilarious youtube embed that we probably would have enjoyed.  If you click the source button again, you'll see if it worked (youtube vidoes will show a box that says "flash" in the middle).

I'm a conservative on this board, and I assume the majority are liberals.  WGAF?  The rules say no politics for a reason...THIS BOARD IS ABOUT MEEEECHIGAN ATHLETICS, a passion we all share.  I've had no problem interacting on here b/c I follow the rule.  There are other sites if you want ot rant about the left or right.  I suggest you read the rules and keep yourself to M topics...you'll do much better (if you even care).

One more thing...I'm mostly a city boy now, but came from a small town...Napoleon, Michigan.  Trust me when I tell you that most "hicks" know exactly what they are and aren't offended by it.  Most are also hard-working, productive Americans.  What's so wrong about that?  Not everyone has to be just like you.
