hey, am i the only one who thought it really looked like RR's eyes were all teared up during the end of the game?
they kept cutting in for close ups of him, and either he has quite the twinkle in his eye or he was really tearing up.
a collective of all the Michigan fans welling up and it almost came out of his eyes... like mine....
OK, can we begin the 500 points to start a thread rule now?
we will all be subjected to some excuse as to why RR is great, but...
Nobody but those under the 500 point threshold have the guts to post the threads of what we're all actually thinking. The rest of us know better, lest we unleash the wrath of the apologists.
You could be like me and not just post anything at all. Love how you all freak about points!
Sorry, but STFU. What, are you worried you might drop below 5K if you say what you really think? Ooooh, some "apologists" might react poorly if you speak the truth and they can't handle it.
i was making an honest observation. it struck me as weird. not pointing to the previous "crying incident" during a press conference. not implying my approval or disproval for RR. not picking a fight, nor saying anything incendiary.
my point was simple - i think i thought i saw RR cry.
thats some pretty raw emotion and heavy stuff, regardless of what side of the fire/save RR fence ya are on. my mates have all moved across the country, but were they all here thats what we might be discussing. thought thats the point of these forums.
id say you calling me out (a longtime reader of this blog) just because i only recently created an account was the immautre action taken here. i tried to pick an accurate title for the thread so those not interested might not waste time on it. sorry if you were expecting something different.
dude, im the OP.
"please up the point requirement to 1000."
point taken, but isn't there a happy medium somewhere between OMG RR U SUXXXX!!!! MUST HIREZZ HARBAUGH NOW!!!! ,and the nothing to see here we'll be OK give RR and GERG seven more years crowd? Anymore,it seems like its either Fox News or NPR around here.
Maybe after everyone calms down in a few days we can see some threads hypothesizing if Rich could successfully weather another DC change, or who some of the possible candidates to replace Rich are if DB moves in that direction. IDK, maybe its just because I normally stay away from the board for a few days after a tough loss.
I wasn't implying that NPR was liberal biased (that is another argument I won't participate in here). I was just comparing the "sky is falling" approach of Fox with the smooth, calm demeanor of NPR.
As you suggest, let's ease up on the NPR vs Fox references.
It's getting past my bedtime, and I should have seen that it could have easily been regarded in that way. Thanks, and a minus to me for not choosing my comparison more wisely.
I have never started a thread. But, it has nothing to do with my points. It has more to do with the fact that best thing I can think of for a thread is why David Hasselhoff is so popular in Germany!!! Hmm...I guess mgopoints really do have a correlation with cognitive ability.
I said the same thing to my girlfriend when he was wiping his eyes. He's putting everything he has into this team and the defense just isn't progressing.
We get it.
Why not + 1,000 to you for being a party lackey?
He has underperformed his whole time at M. The Big East has no ranked teams. He fired his DC after 1 year, He fired his LB coach after 2 years, his D is #120 of 120...
He may have been awesome at WVU, but he's not working out at M. It's OK. Bellichek sucked ass on the Browns.
Again, I ask, at what point do we stop blaming Lloyd Carr, and start looking at what is on the field right now?
We can't keep defending this staff by using the previous staff as a whipping boy.
Your excuses and logical inconsistency are really something else. RichRod has been the coach for 3 years. In that time, he's built a solid offense (and you describe the talent level upon his arrival as "astrocious"...which I think might mean that we were like the Houston Astros, although I'm not sure...I kid, I kid). Anyway, you earlier said:
He will be awesome here if we let him develop players and shore up the D.
Who is preventing him from developing players? And if he can build the O from "astrocious" in 3 years, why is the D even worse than that? Excuses do not win games. It's time to stop making them for the coach.
You assume that "people" never accepted RR from the beginning. I guess that maybe makes you feel better in defending him? I'm not sure. I don't assume to know you, but realize that I supported him for a long while. He lost my support late last season although I've been hopeful that he could turn it around this year.
RR recruited where he saw fit and we have the results on the field. After three years, there are no excuses. There are only results. I'm tired of apologists acting like spoiled children - it's never my (or, in this case, RR's) fault.
Just stop the "acting like children" nonsense. You think it can't be said that the list of excuses for RR sounds like the whining of children who refuse to accept personal responsibility? It is 100% reasonable for alums to take issue with the current state of the program. You might not agree with their upset, but that doesn't make them "children", nor does it mean they're "closed minded". You think there is "evidence that Rich will be great here". More people would say that the "evidence" says that he will not. You might notice that there are less and less of you each week (even on this board which is very pro-RR).
Ok, some facts for you.
Fact: RichRod hired his coaches.
Fact: RichRod recruited his players.
Fact: RichRod is responsible for the result on the field.
Fact: RichRod has the worst record in the history of Michigan football.
Fact: Our defense has gotten worse each year.
Fact: RichRod brought NCAA violations upon the program for the first time in its history.
Fact: RichRod is 0-5 against MSU and OSU
If those aren't valid reasons to be upset with the performance of RR, I'm not sure what would be. Those aren't facts? What are they? Fantasy? Wait, no...more tragedy than fantasy. I'll quote you one more time, just because it's so easy to use your words against you:
The michigan fan base is acting like spoiled children.
I hate people like you.
I don't hate you. I do feel sorry for you though. You've let your blinders blur the facts before you. Maybe you truly feel RR will be great here. It's possible that could happen, but the opposite argument is not only reasonable, it's likely.
Are you being patient and rational in your treatment of Lloyd Carr over the past month?
Why on earth should he not have renewed his contract? A promising freshman class that went to the Rose Bowl has a sophomore slump, and the 2006 team looked like one that was poised to win a championship. And, guess what? They came within 3 points of having a shot at it!
Do you not understand that hindsight is 20/20? That the activities of figures in the past did not have the reference point of what would come after when they made the decisions they made? What could Lloyd Carr have possibly known in 2005 to think that he shouldn't continue as head coach?
Your argument makes zero sense. At all. I know you really, really want to defend Rich Rodriguez by using some cockamamie reinvention of Lloyd Carr's tenure, but if you're really going to keep harping on people to be "rational," shouldn't that translate to your argument as well?
Also, what's with the all-caps sections in all of your posts this weekend?
And I'm sick of you lying about Lloyd Carr. It goes both ways. And if you're really defending your thesis this year, like you brag about at least once every day, odds are you're smarter than that.
Calls for rationality have to be paired with rationality. Also, thanks for the -1, which always pops up within a minute of anything you post in response to me.
Says a lot about you that you'll neg-bomb based on sheer disagreement, then reply on top of it. And then admit to doing so.
Elevation of discourse right here.
boycott != censorship
People not buying the paper is not stopping the Freep from printing what they want. If the Freep becomes unpopular by its own actions, it's thier fault, no one censored them.
Come on now, the defense is only 106/120
he needs to take it like a man. He hired GREG he coaches the team and he needs to act like a leader and inspire some confidence in a team that looked like it had none tonight, crying is not going to do that.
yes you are the only one
Oh, wait, that's baseball.
Michigan football makes me sad sometimes...Tom Hanks makes me happy!
Fewer trolls, please?
Hard to sort out stupidity to stupid criticism to okay criticism in the post game.
Worse, someone deleted all the threads (without justifying it) that emphasized civility and to avoiding in-fighting. Not helping our cause.
I feel for you guys. Must be terrible having to moderate after losses.
And we apparently lost a moderator as well. GB tells me he's lost his powers.
Locking threads is one thing. Making them disappear is poor moderation. (Just my $0.02. And I know that it's not you, FA)
GB no longer rules with an iron fist? We are free men!
If anything, it means I have to be an asshole more than laid back reason.
Your an asshole when your being an asshole FA.
Let's not play Good Cop/Mom here.
I follow a few boards, this is the only sports one. None are populated with such passionate posters. All suffer from the same lack of rationality.
I saw how all of the threads were gone and couldn't believe it. Thanks to whomever put them back up.
Ones that I could remember the title to that were civil, I tried to bring back up. I felt like deleting examples of fans talking rationally sets a good example to the post-game crowd that "hey, we can handle this more responsibly than [massive whining]." All of them disappeared right before the post-game crowd came in, and several of the threads started by the post-game crowd were deleted.
Would they have posted stupid threads regardless of the other threads? Yeah, a couple. But would they have been influenced to read a thread titled "bye bye RichRod", make a comment there to get out their initial frustration, and perhaps cut down on the number of stupid threads? I think that's a valid hypothesis. It at least would encourage some civility.
No coach has had such a rough start at a school then him. Coming to a school like Michigan it should be a lot easier then this to win. He knows what he is up against. A lack of upperclassmen on defense, angry fans that just want to beat a rival not named Notre Dame and a uncertain future. I want him to stand up and lead this team to the promised land I just don't think he is going to have a chance to see his plan carried out.
Stop making excuses.
Really? How is anything he said an excuse? "Fans" like you must sit watching these games hoping we lose so you can run to the board and go all "ZOMG! I TOLD YOU SO!!!"
