I think Coach Rod said this is good to post on the Bulletin Board to keep the team focused during the week. Would think they would be focused already this week. But, it couldn't hurt.

about the mythical bulletin board. Is it an actual board still or have the coaches moved on with the times and simply tweet this stuff to their teams?

but these types of issues are way overblown. PSU should just not show up. I mean if they feel they are not any better they should just mail it in. If you don't think you are better or can't compete you are not an athlete or attend Delaware State. I think PSU could apply the same thing from our pressers today. The only trash talking that resulted in something interesting is when WRs and CBs talk. That is the only thing a WR is good for isn't it??

While I don't really think this is all that bulletin board worthy, having played sports at various levels bulletin board material isn't really overblown. When we would hear that another team was talking trash before a game it really inspires you to prove them wrong in a big way. I was not one that ever had a hard time getting "up" for games, but when I heard the "bulletin board" stuff it really ignited my desire to demolish the opposing team (especially the person who said it). Not saying every athlete is this way, but that is my experience.

I don't know about others, but I don't think that even qualifies as bulletin board material. Was he really going to say that Michigan was the better team? It's not like he said that Michigan's defense blows goats and we're going to score 100 points on those goons.

You're not sure if we'll win, but you think we're a lock to cover a +4.5 spread? I don't follow that reasoning. If there's a chance we might lose by one, two, three or four points, why would there be no chance we'd lose by five, six, or seven? They're all one-score margins.

What player in the Big Ten doesn't feel his team is better than Team A and can't go on the road and win? The quote seems pretty innocuous to me.

Any player who is on scholarship to play football in either Minneapolis, MN or Champaign, Illinois, to start. Oh wait, I read your question wrong (DOES NOT feel CAN NOT). I then revise my answer to: any team other than Minnesota or Illinois. But I think you were asking for my first answer. I think we end up in the same place: Illinois and Minnesota are dreadful road teams.

I don't think that most bulletin board material is actually about what a player or coach actually says. I think it is the fact that they use a public platform to say it in front of anyone that will listen. Of course every team thinks they are good enough to win but when it is said to the media it is more about "calling someone out" and we all know athletes are full of pride and therefore take it to heart no matter what was said.

...Royster is a pimp. He could have never outfought Rodriguez. What I did not know until this day that it was JoePa all along... Okay - fine, quote doesn't fit. But it sounded promising....

... this is my late night too lazy post on at 12 hour old topic, which these days is ancient on Mgoboard. It would be great to see a statistical study on the effects of bulletin board material on game outcome. impossible to track, yes, but it would simply be a regression analysis based on the severity and the one-sideness (sp?) of the week's trash talking measured against the outcome of the game (both actual and against the spread). Interesting to see what the affect and r2 is on this.
