Hoke's drops by $2M after Jan 1. With NFL season going past Jan 1 and most "top notch" coaches with their bowl teams you may have Hoke in limbo as the new AD "assesses him" for however many weeks after Brandon is hired. Then he is fired Jan 2. I think that is how it will play out. Hoke will simply disappear after Nov 30th from the pubic eye and those 31 days save the university some bucks. (I am assuming we are 5-7 or worse and not bowl eligible)

Glad he's taking a back seat to this, as he should. However, I find it imeasurably frustrating that wins and losses STILL comes up when talking about DB. There are so many other issues with how the athletic department is run and poor dicission making that even if we were having a good year in football DB's job would still be in question. Writing the book on how not to handle public relations, making decisions without input from key stakeholders (i.e. students and season ticket holders), and greatlyexpanding the athlic department's staff almost inexplicably all stand as department wide issues.

Q and A wasn't a public forum. Ross gave a guy an interview at WSJ knowing it was going to be published. In the interview, he as much as said that the President has made a decision.

Ross effectively decides. And by having him into his office to deliver the message--in a very public way--Schlissel let Ross's ego carry the day.
It's good news for Michigan football, but not for the University of Michigan. The same thing could have happened under cover of night and perceptions of Schilssel would have been a little different. The guy who came in saying that sports shouldn't be the tail that wags the dog has already cried bow wow.
Anyway, let's get moving now.

I'm not sure making a change with one of his department heads is crying bow-wow. I'd like to think if any other department head were underperforming this badly that he'd make a similar decision, with the same due diligence.

I don't believe the contract buyout amount will be an issue in the end analysis. They'll either work out an acceptable deal or come up with some high level fund raising job to keep Brandon employed and avoid the buyout.
But Schlissel really has no choice here. Brandon has pissed off way too many people to ignore and made Michigan look like a shit-show in the national media - among other things. And trying to get him to "reform" is a big waste of time too. Leopards don't change their spots and Brandon has spent too much time being a pompous, self-serving arrogant person to change. His comments and actions have clearly demonstrated disdain and disregard for the non-student athletes and average fans.

That's exactly the issue in a nutshell. You can get people to change their actions to some extent, but it's very difficult to change the way someone thinks. If you have someone in a decision making position, you don't want to have to babysit and second guess all of their actions. This has been pretty cut and dry for a few weeks now. DB is out, Hoke is out. There is no way the school can afford to keep either of the two at this point. Everything is completely toxic, and you can't just clean that up without new blood.

On Monday, Ross said that he still thinks Brandon can do the job. But he also has promised school president Mark Schlissel that he won’t interfere or oppose a decision to fire Brandon.
Like others, I am a little perplexed that this even became something people had asked because ultimately the decision is Schlissel's and I couldn't think of anyone so attached to Brandon - even if they support him as Ross apparently does - that would threaten to cease their donations if he were to be fired. I had a difficult time imagining anyone being that vindictive, but I could be off in my perceptions here.

I remember how everyone overreacted to that Detroit Crain's article saying he supported Brandon. As if he was going to publicly say I dont support Brandon. Things can change a lot in a month. Public opinion will overwhelm a lone voice. No matter how rich.
This is about as close to a non confidence vote as you can get.
Guys, dude has not tweeted in a month other than to lower ticket prices. He is done. Henson said he was asked to resign and he refused. I know dude wears a crown on his head but he was correct about a letter being written that former players signed even if he embellished it. He had the original Hoke hire 4 years ago, etc. Henson has been right directionaly on quite a few things even if he takes it to extremes. Since (if accurate) Brandon refused to resign this will be drawn out IMO but he is not coming back. He'd be tweeting his little heart out.

Once upon a time I worked at a major public university. My wife and I were in pretty high level positions. She had "Dean" in here title. We saw and heard a lot of the stuff you hear at positons like that. Top tier research Universities are pretty uptight about the perception that outside money is influencing them. They will absolutely squash any notion of it. You have to remember that facutly are pretty much impossible to fire so they will say and do anything even if it's against the financial interest of the school. So at the school we were at an entire building had been donated by a celebrity. The university decided that it wanted to take it away and use it for something else that was more academically relevant. The celebrity raised hell, faught it tooth and nail and they found a way around him. So this does not surprise me. In the end Ross has a relatonship with U of M not Dave Brandon and he's smart enough to not create a controversey with his name attached to it.

This is what's wrong with college athletics. People give money then expect everything from thereafter to go thru them. If Ross or anyone else wants to contribute, go, but keep your mouth shut.

time now to pull the trigger on Brandon. I like that Schlissel has been deliberate, done his due diligence, etc., especially for a guy without experience with big time athletics. But the time has come re. Brandon. Even if we need to pay his ridiculous buyout (and I'm pissed at MSC for that!), it's time to do it.
