seem to always come out with a game plan that goes against what every analyzer says? And then they come down and score and then by the middle of the game they get away from it and fold...
Rose Bowl Thread
off hot in their past few bowl games - only to crash and burn.
I have a bad feeling about this playing out differently...
drive of the game, TP throws a couple screen passes and musburger says something to the extent of "he's growing up right before our very eyes." gaggggggggggggg.
dr sat had a good article a couple weeks ago where he made a great point: if TP has a good game be prepared to see tebow-esque hype regarding him for the next 9 months. i dont know if i can handle that.
did you just see him grow up with the sack and hail mary plays?
It's coming, but probably change in the opposite way that Tebow did.
does look really fast...God I want us to execute with that speed!
they forced a punt - now drive down the field and knot this game up at 7.
Dang, two penalties on one play?!?!? By the same guy?!?!?!?
thankfully OSU dropped it.
I have a bad feeling we might not be beating OSU anytime soon. Pryor is a ridiculous athlete - so tough to bring him down.
only stay one more year - he seems like the early nfl entry type
and seemed to do alright. he only had 67 yds passing against us and I don't remember him running wild on us either
hold them to a FG attempt.
OSU is making Oregon look bad....notice, Oregon is not bad, and OSU is not good, but WTF is going on in Pasadena.
So I've decided to view this game as a win-win: If OSU wins, good for the B10. If they lose, I'm not that sorry
I wish I was as cheery as you. I still don't know who I am rooting for.
I've been looking at it that way all along. I would kind of like a win for the Big 10, but at the same time I want OSU to get embarassed. My great uncle is always a wreck during OSU games if they are close.
I couldn't agree more. I find myself kind of pulling for the OSU and the Big Ten. Because, honestly, until Michigan is back in a position to truly compete with them, it isn't as tough a pill to swallow. Howeva, if Oregon wins, suck it Bucks.
Ok, this is more like it.
make this kick and make this a one score game.
Imagine how this came would be going if Pryor could actually pass...
down the reverse -
I don't like how much ORegon is celebrating - you are still losing guys.
Nice defensive series for the Ducks and a good return to boot. This drive has potential!
That tackle on the KO was the best play of the day for the Ducks.
Way better D so far this series. Hold 'em on 3rd.
Three and out.
The big MO is swinging the Ducks way.
Feel the momentum shift.
Gotta love the fact that Oregon took Oregon State's best play, the fly sweep.
Went for it and may have it...yes he did!
Terrible 3rd down play, better 4th. Nice catch, err drop. Smart quick snap.
smart to run the next play so quickly avoid the review.
Is this the typical Buckeye bowl collapse I keep hearing so much about?
His knee was NOT down.
err Blount is in the game.
Man, OSU has some real zeros on the sidelines. Go figure...
Hard to say if it is conclusive enough to change.
Guess not. Even game!
Big 12 refs seem to have better replay guys than the Big 10 usually has.
Ducks got all the momentum.
"To say it 'Blountly', he's a load!"
"to say it bluntly, he's a load"
Christ on a crutch, Musberger needs to retire.
Wow. To be tied after playing so badly for the 1st Q, Oregon has to be feeling pretty good. OSU, not so much.
Watching this game makes me long for next season.
According to wikipedia, Chip Kelley was a RB coach at Michigan in 1992? Michigan men are everywhere. F'in Awesome.
Per the U of O website, he graduated from New Hampshire in 1990, coached at Columbia for a few years, John Hopkins for one, then went back to UNH for the duration of his career until accepting the offensive coordinator job at Oregon.
Read all about it:
I'd love to see a TAINT 'bout now.
Pryor looked frustrated after that missed pass. This is a good sign.
Huge break for the Suckeyes.
bails out Pryor.
Oregon is killing itself with big penalties.
I actually like Herbstreit because he isn't a biased commentator.
conversions - ugh.
Michigan type coverage on that pass.
The cheerleader uni's are brutal.
But I do like Oregon's!
Seriously...getting sick and tired of the verbal blow jobs that Musberger is giving Pryor....
I wish they would pull his mike and just let Herbstreit talk.
they're looking for the next tebow to fawn over
What's the over/under on the number of times Herbstreit uses the phrase "slow-developing play" to describe the OSU offense?
has gone very quickly.
Glad Oregon is getting the ball to start the 2nd half.
Does Tressel play for the FG?
So the answer is likely yes.
doesn't seem like Tressel ball to me.
they got it - hopefully Pryor turns it over.
I'm sick of Musberger slobbering over baby Boren.
Damn close to turning it over.
Score here or not. OSU burned a ton of time on this drive.
If anyone can move it with this little time left it is Oregon.
How do the refs getting the right call on the non fumble constitute a "break" for Oregon Herbie?
Musburger say how tOSU's backup kicker used to play MLS? Get Rosenberg on down there.
Interception by the Bucks. Damn.
OSU ball - is Tress gonna play for the FG here or take it to the half?
All the time in the world and you throw it away? Seriously?
Got to keep them off the board here.
If Oregon can just play a good game, not great, in the 2nd half they'll win.
It's some sort of weird testament to the quality of the team that this isn't a blowout for OSU giving the crapitude of Oregon's play.
Did anyone else think that throwaway pass didn't make it to the LOS?
Unless there was a receiver in the area, that should've been a grounding penalty
Kelley was complaining to the Linesman and he was right! The FG attempt should have been from about 20 yards farther back.
well, bucks are up 16-10 at the half, but dont you feel that they had control that whole first half? i feel like they should be leading by more.
Ducks get the ball to start 2nd half. Ducks have not played close to their best ball, but can take the lead if they can come out with the jump they appeared to have in the second quarter.
I like their position in this one right now.
at the half - Ducks get the ball to start the 2nd half.
OU band played the theme to Back to the Future...hmm
Pretty even at the half. Bad turnover there by Masoli by to give the Bucks an extra field goal. Should be a good second half. I'd be much less concerned about the B10 bowl record if only NU had not farted away that game.
does he ever not sound like it?
I hadn't noticed any change during the season. Let's hope he's just had a few.
For medicinal purposes only, of course.
Corso sounds like he might have been tipping a couple.
Sorry, you beat me to it, but he sounds half pickled.
Anyone else notice that during the Stanford/OK game the crawl shows the wrong final scores for both the Penn Stat and NW games - they have the scores reversed. I have seen it a few times - you think someone might notice that...
Corso had a mild stroke earlier this year....
Still sounds better than Dick Clark!
the stroke corso had last summer hasn't helped him much - i think he sounds better than earlier in year...and by the way boren is a fat lazy piece of shit - had to get that off my chest, sorry in advance
OSU's D is controlling this game so far
Wow - Rodney Peete looks like he weighs 300 lbs.!
to turn Pryor into something he is not - a pass first quarterback. I know everyone murders people steals from me, steals from you but Tressel is seriously hindering Pryor's development.
Pyror is a fool for choosing to go to o state, because Rich could have definitely utilized Pyror better.
I guess what I am trying to say that while at the time it seemed like the end of the world when we didn't get Pryor - Everything happens for a reason. I honestly think Tate, with DG pushing him in practice can have a better sophomore year than Pyror.
+5 for humor (if i could)
Yes, all those BCS bowl games and Big Ten Championships...what was he thinking?!?
Geeze, I mean I have some man-hate for him, but let's be realistic here...
DMB is back.
Not the best damn band in the land, but "one of the best bands in the country."
To Musberger and Herbie TOP > anything else ever
Nice run back. Good start to the half.
came back out wearing the same jerseys.
is very pryor-esque.
3rd and long is never good, but it is even worse for an offense like the Ducks.
"When you look down from the blimp and don't see any cars moving, you know you have a good game." Absolutely BRILLIANT!
hopefully they can punch it in.
Momentum shift plz?
great fake to Blount.
Now hopefully that Duck defense can force a three and out.
Now we're cookin' with gas!
Why doesn't Oregon use the QB slot option that absolutely killed the other OSU's defense?
is a wrecking ball gotta love a QB who can carry a linebacker with him into the endzone.
...we're looking at Pryor as Rose Bowl MVP. Ugh.
the Zach Boren love?
Nice throw behind him, TP.
OSU always has a reliable kicker - why can't Michigan have that luxury?
Because maybe Michigan should stop getting walkon kickers and recruit some. Just sayin, Garrett Rivas was pretty damn good. Olesnavage, not bad but couldn't hit from close for some reason. But better than KC Lopata
Where the hell does OSU get all these flawless placekickers from? One guy goes down and the next is just as good.
They always have great kicking/ST.
is a sign of a good year a-comin'
well.. call me stupid but I'm actually rooting for Ohio State..
any other pac-10 team and I'd probably root vs OSU.. but I hate the ducks and their fanbase..
wings on your football jerseys? Now THAT is what I call unacceptable...
Our helmets got wings!
facepalm, for the reason above. Wings are better than pot leaves
huuuuge huuuuge difference..
a.) Our helmet is winged. They don't have wings. "winged" helmet is simply used to describe a distinctive helmet paint design. Do those look like wings to you?
b.) If they decided to add feathers to our wings, I'd rush to ann arbor torch & pitch fork.. and I'm sure most of you guys would too
c.) Our "wings" have decades of tradition. They decided to add those things to the Oregon uniform this season.
they look like angel wings made up of tiny machetes..
Hey, you said to!!
on the Buckeyes has some gigantic feet - that is a huge shoe.
Not going there...
Awesome drive down the drain.
Tate Forcier needs to watch Masoli and learn how to continue selling a fake after handing the ball off.
growing right before our eyes.
Or not so much.
Seriously though. Kid's a baller, and he's only going to get better next year. Tressel seems to be figuring out how to use him as well. Hopefully he's gone after next year.
Annnnnnnnd cue Troy Smith comparisons
how did Oregon not see that coming?
bad timing on that fumble.
hopefully they can force a punt or interception
EDIT: cue interception
Nice stand after the fumble!
instead of touchdowns should hopefully come back and bite the bucks.
That's Tressball for ya
hopefully Pryor loses some confidence as a result.
This game has been commentated like OSU is playing alone... Oregon has been talked about very little... I have heard Pryor's height/weight/growth 1236 times...... Volume turned off
Typical douchey Musberger.
I think Brent and Herbie have done a pretty balanced job especially considering the B10 history for both of them.
I've long thought Musberger had a soft spot for OSU. Why, I don't know - maybe it's the influence of Herbstreit rubbing off on him. But he just regularly seems more excited when OSU does something good than when their opponents do.
sucks to lose an offensive weapon like that.
The "confidence" that Tressel has in Pryor (which Herbie can't shut up about) is only b/c passing the ball is the only option when the other team is stacking the line. meh
and long - gonna need a good play here.
Maybe this has been said already, but I didn't want to read all the comments: Pryor is really not that good of a QB. He's an incredible athlete, especially for his size, and he has a big arm, but his accuracy and decision making ability is poor. If his first option isn't there, he freaks out. I'm not THAT scared of him really.
Semi OT, but this is kinda what the thread about DG was talking about - most of the same benefits as TP, except better accuracy and football IQ
And a great thread it was. :-)
You think some QBs come out of the womb with the ability to read a defense? it's called experience
Hasn't been said here tonight, but it is true. When it comes time for Gardner to play, he will excel compared to Pryor. I believe Gardner has better decision making ability.
Hopefully Oregon can do something this drive.
It's stating the obvious, but Oregon really, really needs a TD on this drive.
Massoli's reads on the option seem to be off tonight. Maybe b/c of whatever the D is doing, but it looks like he should've kept a lot more than he has.
Shit! Another Oregon punt
the Ducks D can get force a quick punt.
"Terell Pryor closing in on a rose bowl championship" Still plenty of time left Musberger and it is a 2 point game - try not to get ahead of yourself.
Show me what ya got and "punch" another one in! :-)
"Terrelle Pryor, closing in on a Rose Bowl Championship". I'll let it speak for itself.
EDIT: Oh, sorry Scramble
James is back woo!
back for the Ducks.
They need to stop them here - can't let pryor run around like that.
20-19 A new Tressel classic in the making.
looked painfully slow
What is it about the Rose Bowl that makes the defense refuse to wrap up big QB's like Pryor? I mean, just hang on, slow him down and let someone else make the tackle.
has reached Favre territory - every sentence contains his name.
Is Brent's eyesight failing him? He's regularly saying "short of the first down" when a player is not even remotely close to the marker.
2nd and twelve...just short of the First Down marker!
The whole "OH LOOK WE GONNA SACK PYROR oh wait first down" is getting old, just like it was during The Game
Jake Ballard - you gotta be kidding me.
um.....and Pryor will now get credit for a great play.
Oregon is throwing the game away with penalties. OSU is getting so damn lucky.
or a pick - Oregon needs to keep them out of the endzone or this is Over.
But there is plenty of time left!
but really problematic at this point for the Ducks.
Now that was a great catch.
Herbie is getting a chubby right now.
FUCK. OSU touchdown. They're going to win now and I'm going to have to take this shit Monday.
oh my jesus, Oregon is gonna need a spark of SOMEthing to catch up.
In my dreams: They block the PAT, get the TD + 2 point conversion to send it into overtime, where they win off a Pryror intercepton.
Where is The Knowledge when you need him?
it looks like i'll go through undergrad without beating OSU.
Are you enrolling in the fall?
My first game as a student was Appalachian State.
I will have the worst 4/5 years of michigan football.
9 months of listening to the pryor hype train
thats not helpful
back in a movie - can't remember the last thing he starred in.
A police lineup?
Go ahead and let tOSU fans believe the hype about Pryor. This game has been about Oregon's penalties and tOSU's D. Pryor isn't any better or worse this game than the rest of the year.
Wow, rationalize much?
Uhh he's got 266 in the air and is doing damage on the ground, I would say he's definitely improved since the end of the regular season
Maybe not, but for the first time since I actually saw him play, I am actually scared. Tressel has finally figured out how to use him correctly without going to the spread. I was encouraged at the pick he threw, but there is now a very real possibility that Pryor will finally start to realize his potential under the evil vest.
Nice pick up on the kick-off!
Need a quick TD here and then a defensive stop.
WOW! gutsy call on the reverse.
I thought I would be OK with OSU winning, but I'm really not. LETS GO DUCKS
It really looks like Masoli has the QB run but is still handing it off.
make this kick please.
Now we can say...Oh noezzz!
What an asshat... SHIT.
It's amazing. The team I root for invariably has worse placekicking than the team I root against.
Who would have thought they nearly every New Years Day bowl game would be determined by the kickers?
Why not leave Masoli in... the chances of him not pulling off a yard are pretty slim... 4th and 1 is almost always a go for it, by the numbers.
they needed two scores and it was a pretty make-able kick with only 5 minutes left.
The decision was sound, kicker just missed it.
Not to mention that it was in no way an easy kick.
I really though when Jesus blew out his birthday cake candles, he would have wished for an Oregon win....I think he pulled a sneaky sneaks and wished for world peace...again...
uh....is it too late to be happy about the (undeserved) hype that the Big Ten will get for winning this game?
What are you talking about? Undeserved? If Michigan was doing this to Oregon, it would be deserved though right... Come on, I love Michigan, but you should give credit to OSU they played a good game.
as did Wisconsin and Penn State..
some of you guys are ridiculously bitter/jealous. It's like the fat exgirlfriend saying the new girlfriend is dumb and slutty.
I root -for- Michigan. Not against other teams.. unless it benefits our bowl placement.. which in this case it does not.
Any analogy that includes either fat people or sluts is A OK in my book.
When is ABC going to stop having Herbstreit call big OSU games?
were about 5 mintues away from a whole offseason of pryor porn. kill me now.
Just try to laugh it off. No one who really watched this game should think that Pryor "won" this game or "matured" in any way. At least Young deserved the hype after his Rose Bowl win.
were about 5 mintues away from a whole offseason of pryor porn. kill me now.
You're right...Pryor porn for the lose.
missed kick killed em.
Sportscenter tonight will consist of solely Terrell Pryor.
That will be shots of Tebow laying hands on Meyer and ascending to heaven.
in any positives projected upon the Big Ten from this game.
COME ON MIRACLE.....
Game, set, match, boys and girls.
Spelling exhibition: check and mate.
I'm going to have to start drinking again.
Better crack the bottle then....
I used to be conflicted over whether or not I wanted Ohio State to win, but now that it appears obvious that they're about to win, I want so badly to see them choke. I think the shots of osu fans celebrating in the stands were what convinced me that I'm rooting for the Ducks.
the closer it gets to the end, the more I feel like this....
After our season, must we really endure THIS??
You may want to turn off the T.V. for the next 8 months.
instead of the OSU defense - but whatever.
Now OSU will be ranked in the top 5 to start the season and Pryor will be a preseason heisman favorite despite the fact he is likely to throw for about 2000 yards.
That's all folks.
has let me rediscover how much I despise the bucks and everything they stand for.
Can't wait till RchRod wipes that smirk off Tressel's face.
Could be a lot worse. Pryor could actually be as good as Musberger thinks he is.
"The Buckeyes rule?" Come on Brent, give it a rest!
Oh God, get ready for the whole Pryor offseason Heisman hype. F my life.
Cameron Heyward & Brian Rolle
Congrats to the Buckeyes for the 2009 season.
2010, Let's Go Blue!
No idea if this has been covered already, but Zach Boren is a decent blocking fullback. Why would Michigan not offer the guy, just out of courtesy? Did RR make the conscious decision not to offer despite his brother being on the squad? I remember everyone on boards said he was not worth it, and was only a 3* but he is playing well for a good team.
I hate OSU. I hate Boren. I hate sweatervest, and I hate this offseason. Go Blue.
I think Zach Boren has been a huge surprise for the Buckeyes this year. I have a tendency to watch him a lot; he's an easy guy to spot in formations where he is used. He made a handful of really good blocks today, and I saw him completely fan on a couple of others. One led to a Pryor sack. One play, Pryor was supposed to have a shovel pass option to Zach and Pryor fouled it up. Did Zach have one carry today?
It's pretty apparent; both Borens have found themselves in a very good place. Justin's success was predictable; Zach's wasn't. OSU didn't even offer him until Justin left Michigan. (btw, I saw some 2-star ratings for Zach, too.)*
I can sort of see why Michigan didn't offer him, inasmuch as no one else in the Big Ten, or any other BCS conference, did either.
Zach Boren has proven his doubters wrong. (I was never a Justin doubter -- while others were harping about Justin being fat or lazy or whatever, I wasn't among them.) So if settling things on the field is the final arbiter, the Borens may be having the last laugh.
I don't worry about that too much. The players are going to do what they do, no matter what I might think or say. What will always remain unaswered is what the Borens meant by "family values" at Michigan. Whatever Zach does or does not do on the field, for as long as people think that "family values" refers to some failing on the part of Rich Rodriguez, we should be there to remind folks that it really refers to Mom and Dad Boren going nuts about a scholarship offer for Zach.
Anyway, this was a big night for the Buckeyes, and in my view a very good night for the Big Ten. I won't lose any sleep over the Bucks' or the Borens' success.
*As a total aside, if we're talking about 2-3 stars from good Ohio h.s. programs -- like our own Ray Vinopal -- Zach Boren and Chris Borland are two pretty encouraging freshmen in the Big Ten...
Just keep letting Pryor talk on TV so everyone can see what a fu**ing idiot he is. God I hate him and the sweater vest!
Is the absolute worst. Ever, ever, ever. I need to just mute games he calls and go with the radio broadcast. It physically pains me to hear him call games.
he left off truck drivers.
GOD DAMN IT.
My 8 year old son asked me why Pryor chose #2 for his jersey. I said I didn't know but thought it was probably just his favorite number. His response was "Maybe it stands for 2 rolls of Toilet Paper." A small but clear sign that he understands OSU is the evil empire.
Worst Rose Bowl champions in a decade? Or longer?
Why is it that when we got to the Rose Bowl we had to play a USC team full of NFL stars in waiting and Vince Young as he was peaking, and OSU gets to play a self-destructive Oregon team that got handled by Boise State?
When it rains, it pours, I guess.
Well, we did start off with Washington and Wisconsin...
But I feel tour pain about the Ducks. I think anyone in the Rose should have to face USC, just to feel the same pain I did sitting for USC, Texas, USC.
But other than when they have to play for the national title, OSU seems to luck into favorable bowl match-ups. (Notre Dame; wasn't it Kansas State one year when we were getting clobbered out there?).
Is OSU jumping all over the field after the game singing the Seven Nation Army riff enough to make it disappear from, well, everything related to Athletics at the University of Michigan?
One can only hope.
Used to love that song until I realized OSU and PSU use it. We can do better.
because The White Stripes are from Detroit!
Jack White is from Detroit, not sure about Holly.
