Rose Bowl Open Thread
5 PM on ESPN.
Well, here it is - the Rose Bowl Presented By Vizio.
This is the battle of conference champions, of the 11-2 teams. Wiscosin versus LaMichael's Legs, or Oregon, if you prefer.
I don't have much in the way of sarcasm directed towards this game - it actually seems like it should be a good game, although I have to wonder if Wisconsin will be able to keep up with Oregon for the entire game.
Can Monte Ball break the record for TDs in a single season of FBS play? We shall see.
Will Bret Bielema find an innovative way to be a d-bag? Very likely.
I took Oregon. Call me nuts.

Would 30 seconds plus Denard do?
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:38 PM ^
Why spike that Luke Fickell?
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:38 PM ^
Why the hell did Toon not stay down for an injury TO? Why the hell did they just spike it? Jesus Wisconsin.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
Wouldn't there have been a 10-second runoff if Toon had stayed down? Or is that an NFL rule only?
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:46 PM ^
The NCAA rulebook from 2010 doesn't say anything about a 10 second runoff. Can't find the 2011 copy though.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:56 PM ^
They have the outdated rulebooks available for download but if you want the current version you have to buy it. I was hoping there would at least be a list of 2011 rule changes but I can't find it.

I don't know how it works in this case, but if you have timeouts left inside of 2 minutes and you get hurt, the injury timeout costs you a timeout. That's to prevent teams from doing a ND-esque fake injury in order to stop the clock. Furthermore, if you call a timeout you don't have, then it's a 15 yard penalty. So maybe an injury timeout would have cost them 15 yards? I'm just speculating here, but either way, they wouldn't get off scott-free

I can't believe they tried to spike it. Holy shit, where is the coaching?
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:39 PM ^
Agreed
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:39 PM ^
Holy crap. This would really suck for Wisconsin if they say the clock ran out
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:40 PM ^
The spike was obviously too late. Hell, I thought it was unlikely they would even snap it in time. Only a coach as derpy as Bielema would call for a spike in that situation.

HAHA Wisconsin.

explain to me how Michigan State managed to have the ball on the field at :01 and spike it in time 10 years ago, yet Wisconsin was unable to do it in :02 tonight. Oh wait, because it's IMPOSSIBLE.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:42 PM ^
Spartan Bob
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:43 PM ^
Because it takes less time to snap and spike it when you're playing at home.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:40 PM ^
Ryan Leaf says of course you can't spike it in two seconds.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:40 PM ^
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:40 PM ^
wasted a timeout and didn't run a play, thats just bad coaching.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:40 PM ^
WHAT THE F DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN YOU TRY TO SPIKE THE BALL WITH 2 SECONDS LEFT BIELEMA???
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:40 PM ^
Brett is a moron.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:40 PM ^
Beilema is an absolute idiot. He should rightly catch a ton of fire for that dumbass call.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
Who spikes the fucking ball with 2 clicks???? Wow
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:40 PM ^
Holy shit wisky. What the hell was that?!
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
How bout calling for a throw to the end zone, not a spike, with :02 left?
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
Great job Wisconsin..great game
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
There is no Spartan Bob to help you out, Wisconsin.
Beilema is a massive tool. I don't mind the Badgers losing.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
Wow, that was a really terrible showing by Beilema
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
Not the man you should be learning clock managment from
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:42 PM ^
Ummmm no Bret Musburger. I believe Alabama gave LSU their best game of the year. 9-6 trumps 40-27.
Stop with the Oregon love fest.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:42 PM ^
Complete and utter stupidity.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:42 PM ^
Just told their players to run same play again if less than 3 secs left
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:50 PM ^
Yeah it's not rocket science. Center snaps on 1 second left. The line pass blocks, all the eligible recievers head for the end zone.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:42 PM ^
That was the worst end to a game I've ever seen in my life!
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:45 PM ^
Indeed.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:49 PM ^
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:43 PM ^
electrifying games end that way ...
that is all
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:43 PM ^
That's the Brett Bielema I know.
I wanted to see them win, but this is sweet justice for that douche. Feel bad for the players though.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:50 PM ^
I wanted UW to win as well, but if they were going to lose, then that was by far the best outcome. A loss you can pretty much put right on Bielema. I really dislike him.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:43 PM ^
Announcer: Coach Bielema, you called for a spike and cost your team a chance to tie the Rose Bowl. What are you going to do next?
Corch Dumbass: I'm going to Sizzler, bitches!
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
I can't stop laughing and my wife is giving me the evil eye!!!
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
Wisconsin lost all 3 games because of stupid coaching decisions. That's funny to me.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:46 PM ^
last game of career is a stupid spike
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:47 PM ^
then realied that this is the 98th Rose Bowl. Funny though that this one and '98 ended the same way though. Good job by both teams. We'll see you both in the B10CG and Rose Bowl next year!
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:49 PM ^
Do NOT spike the ball when you're losing and have mere seconds left.
Do you think Bret gets a little flack on Wisky blogs tonight?
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:49 PM ^
but I am glad for Oregon for the Rose Bowl win - 95 years is a long time.
January 2nd, 2012 at 8:51 PM ^
