Rose Bowl Open Thread

Well, here it is - the Rose Bowl Presented By Vizio.

This is the battle of conference champions, of the 11-2 teams. Wiscosin versus LaMichael's Legs, or Oregon, if you prefer.

I don't have much in the way of sarcasm directed towards this game - it actually seems like it should be a good game, although I have to wonder if Wisconsin will  be able to keep up with Oregon for the entire game.

Can Monte Ball break the record for TDs in a single season of FBS play?  We shall  see.

Will Bret Bielema find an innovative way to be a d-bag? Very likely.

I took Oregon.  Call me nuts.

I was thinking how much I want Gardner to get a fifth year.  Think about the offensive line talent we're recruiting, coupled with Gardner's mobility.

I think that is what I really like about this flavor of pro style.  If someone like Morris falls into your lap, you can easily plug a pocket QB into the system.  If you get Gardner, Robinson, or whoever they can be very effective as well.

I basically want the Wisconsin offensive with better WRs.

Great to see the B1G power style dominating this way.  It looks to me as though UW can run it down their throats all day even when they know it's coming.

Even though the stats say they're really good, I have not been impressed with the UW defense anytime I have watched them.  That could be just that I've watched the big games against good teams, but I think their stats are inflated becasue of their offense possessing the damn ball so much and putting pressure on opposing offenses to come from behind out of their comfort zone.

So I think this kind of shows that regardless of what offensive "style" you employ, having good players to run it will make it successful.  Or, playing a crappy defense.

....but it could be 28-21 in a minute or so.

To answer CRex's question about valuing defense, it seems the value of defense is being corrected by the market in these games.

EDIT: Oregon somehow gets a decent stop on a 4th and 1 play. Ducks' ball.

I think it depends on how much of the offensive success comes from Chryst vs Bielma.  IF Ball feels like Chryst was the brains of this show, he's likely gone.  I think it is a weak draft for RBs anyway.

There's the clock management I came to expect from Bielema.  Why yes Brett, don't spend a timeout on an Out-of-bounds play because with 19 seconds to go, you definitely will have enough time to run 3 full plays and call three timeouts.
