Rooting For MSU Today?
I'm going to root for MSU over Tennessee today. I dislike MSU but never really saw them as a rival except that they are in the same state as the University of Michigan. For decades we have dominated them and in my opinion, two seasons of them winning against us (football) does not make it a rivalry. However, I lived in florida for a while and have come to despise the SEC. I hate them almost as much as I loathe OSU. I want State to win and knock out Tenn. and I want Kentucky to lose as well. Let the Big Ten shine and the SEC dwindle.
Thoughts?
P.S. I would rather see MSU make it to the big dance once again and get blown out like last year, than a SEC team win today or anyonther day.
PPS. Do not mistake me a fan of MSU...I AM NOT, NOR WILL I EVER BE!
So I would rather see a team from Michigan win it, even if it is the Spartans. Not a bandwagon MSU B-Ball fan either, just loyal to the state of Michigan.
if they win they win. if they lose they lose. i just hope the game has an entertaining ending.
I pretty much always pull for the Big Ten unless OSU or State is playing for a national title. And while I like Pearl, this UT team seems pretty thuggish and hard to root for.
I guess I'd rather see State win this one, but really I'm just watching so it looks like I'm busy and I can hopefully use that to convince my girlfriend to go pick up lunch.
but that second paragraph has convinced me that you are a genius.
Chicken burrito and chili cheese fries are en route. CHAMPIONSHIP!
Picking up lunch? Tell her to make you a sandwich!
...don't you understand?
No chance of me ever rooting for them
No way in Hades will I ever root for MSU, and I'm a graduate of the freakin' place. GO BLUE!!!
I will not root for any MSU team, ever.
NEVER!!!
Big Ten team===>beat SEC team.
That's like, "2+2=4."
Or, "Sun rises in east, sets in west."
There's never been a time that Michigan fears the success of another Big Ten school or another in-state school. Not now, not ever.
Except for single-game scenarios like Sparty beating Wiscy in football in '04, MSU being successful hurts Michigan. Every win they get makes them harder to recruit against and puts them further ahead of us in hoops.
Fuck Sparty.
S-E-C
S-E-C
S-E-C
That was sickening. I'll pull for State, but I'm not rooting for them. I've got nothing against them being a good team/program.2 Sparty housemates = insufferable if they keep winning. No thanks, I'd rather see them lose.
ill never root for that school
No and I never will. Izzo is a great coach but State fans are getting a little more annoying lately and them winning will only make it worse.
I might root for them if they had a team that deserved to be there. But this MSU team, especially without Lucas, making the Final Four would be an insult to basketball.
...NO!
I don't necessarily hate Izzo or the current team, but I'm not interested in listening to obnoxious Sparty fans for the next week.
I will not root for MSU under any circumstance, and I also would hate to listen to Sparty fan all week.
A couple months ago, 4 Tennessee players were found drunk, high, and in possession of illegal firearms while driving. 3 of them will be playing in today's game. Also, Pearl is the biggest scumbag coach in college basketball today (even bigger then Calipari imo). He once videotaped a conversation he had with a recruit and lied to the NCAA in order to get a rival school on probation. Think Michael Rosenberg, except if Rosenberg was the coach at a B10 school instead of a journalist. I don't see how someone can be a fan of college athletics and root for Tennessee to win today.
Hopefully MSU wins and then gets destroyed by Butler.
No.
Rooting for your conference is like boning your sister. It's only acceptable and expected if you're from the South.
1. As much as I dislike Tennessee, it's not good for our program to have our in-state rival making the Final Four. Beilein has enough challenges to deal with.
2. I'm tired of this thread coming up every time MSU has a game.
Is one that can't be emphasized enough.
Not that we're not obsessed with MSU or anything, though.
an elimination now would hardly change that perception. Although I see where you're coming from.
Losing now wouldn't change that perception, but having them go all the way is still worse. Remember that we are going head-to-head with them for Trey Zeigler.
IMHO, other Big Ten teams doing well looks better for Michigan. Since we're not there, their winning against those other conferences implies we were going up against better competition. As for actively rooting... I have the sound off so I can listen to the WNIT-- where our sisters are blowing out Syracuse. (currently by 27 points...)
Michigan to reach a Final Four today
and what he has accomplished. But... I can't stand MSU fans, and their tears give me power. Two, MSU making another final four makes UM's life that much harder for in state recruiting. So with that said:
I don't care who wins...as long as Butler isn't in the National Championship I am happy.
I like Izzo as a coach and think Pearl is a good (fun) coach too. My wife like Tenn so I'm slightly leaning that way, but since I have neither in my bracket I just want to be entertained.
Who cares. State will possibly just be the third participant into what is turning out to be probably the most unwatchable Final Four in recent memory
No, I am not.
The answer is pretty obviously no, in any way. That's all I need to know.
No thanks. I've chosen complete disengagement.
I'm rooting for MSU because two of my siblings (and an in-law) graduated from there.
Always root for the Big 11 against the SEC.
Go Rocky top!
puke
Hellz to the NO. Here's a a text convo from a few minutes ago with me and a buddy
Him: "Are you watchin the game?"
Me: "What game?"
Him: "Michigan State"
Me: "Hell no fuck Michigan state"
ever reached the championship game without facing a team higher than a 4-seed?
Sparty faced a 12, 4, 9, and 6... and Butler is a 5. Talk about getting the path cleared for you
Why do these threads exist?
Because people's soul dongs hurt.
OK, so I guess we can look forward to yet another installment of this thread on Saturday night.
Ugh.
Michigan State fans will somehow tie this win to the failures of Michigan, so the sooner they lose, the better for me.
I had picked them (UT) to make the final four before the tourney, so i had to stick with 'em
