Can anyone who has run through the scenarios give us a tip as to whom we need to win to guarantee a BCS spot?

Nothing says "trust" like a friend of a friend whose dad knows this guy who once dated the sister of a cousin whose uncle once had lunch with the president of a large corporation who knows a guy that played a round of golf with Verlander who did a charity event for underpriviledged inner-city children and while there talked to a lady who was engaged to this guy who is best friends with the head of the BCS and of course he knows the head of the Sugar Bowl selection committee and he said that if we win, and Georgia loses and MSU loses to Wisky in the BTC and Brady Hoke points at him when they go to make the selection we are definitely in.

With a win over OSU and a NW win over State, Michigan would share the Legends division title. The tiebreaker determines the BTCG rep but not the outright division winner. It's largely semantics because without a spot in the champ game a co-division title won't mean much but it sure will piss off Sparty. The weekly Big Ten press release lays all this out for those who are wondering. I'd link to it but I don't think I have enough points yet. Go Blue!

What would piss off Sparty the most is that after Michigan is able to BEAT OHIO, Sparty loses the B1G title game and watches Michigan go to a BCS bowl while they go to the Outback.  Then, they can whine about how the bowls kiss Michigan's ass while "better teams" such as Sparty get left out.  

I would definitely visit RCMB for some entertainment if that happened.

I think after we BEAT OHIO everything else will fall into place.  A 10-2 Michigan team with a fan base that is famous for travelling well and living large in the host city will be irrisistable to a BCS host city.  And there's virtually no way, with the combination of teams playing each other above us, that we won't be in the top 14 of the BCS standings which is needed for a BCS bowl bid when we do.

Root for Northwestern to beat MSU just to F with them though.

We want Oklahoma St to beat Oklahoma, I believe, as Oklahoma is less likely to get an at large bid with another loss.

<br>We want an LSU and Alabama win and an LSU win in the SEC Championship game. LSU and Alabama are more or less guaranteed BCS spots so if they aren't in the championship game they are taking other slots. Also, we don't want Georgia to win the conference and pick up an auto bid.

<br>I wonder if a Notre Dame win is a double bonus- giving Stanford a second loss and a loss to close out the season, plus our ND win looks better especially for the computer polls.

If Bama is not in the championship game, they are trading spots with another BCS team like Ok St, so it wouldn't take our spot. The only way the replacement would hurt us is if it was Stanford/Oregon, which isn't going to happen.

Yes, but a 2-loss Alabama team would still be another team "competing" for an at-large BCS bid, and, arguably, would be more attractive than some other teams currently in the running, so if we want the best-case scenario for ourselves, we might want Alabama in the title game.

That said, I like the Just Beat Ohio theory best!

OSU over Oklahoma, Standford over ND, Arkansas over LSU, Auburn over Bama....coule be a fun mess to watch them sort out, but I could see it leaving us out,  or sending us somewhere other than sugar

In that Scenario, OSU vs. SEC team in the championship game. Sugar replaces SEC#2 into the Sugar Bowl as a replacement. Fiesta gets their replacement and at-large pick back to back. My guess is they take Michigan. I don't think it will be Michigan and Stanford, though because that would be the battle of runner ups for the rose bowl. I could see them taking KSU or Houston as our opponents. I'm in love with the idea of playing KSU. Sugar probably takes Stanford, leaving Orange with the Big East champion.

That brings us to another issue. If West Virginia and Louisville win out, then I think that a 7-5 Louisville team will win the conference. That would be awesome.

Last week's chaos basically guaranteed a spot for Michigan if we beat OSU. The only obstacle to Michigan getting into the BCS is moving into the top 14. Since we're 15, we basically need to win and let the several guaranteed losses happen this week and conference title games. Michigan has a great fanbase that is ready to travel after the last few years. 

However, you are probably rooting for an LSU/'Bama title game (without a crazy Georgia wins the SEC title scenario). You also probably want Notre Dame to beat Stanford, Ok State to beat Oklahoma, Oregon to win the PAC-12, and VA Tech to win the ACC title. This basically eliminates/makes less attractive a couple of big name alternative at-large teams and minimizes chaos--both of which are good for Michigan.

I would not say guarantee. Take care of Ohio and it'll take a lot of weirdness to keep us out. However, the lesson from past years is that it would estrange if there wasn't at least some weirdness this week. Lsu and Alabama in the championship game after Georgia winning the SEC would take up an unplanned spot. Along with Houston staying undefeated we would have only one sot for four possibilities: Michigan, Stanford, big 12 and the ACC. At that point it comes down to the picks and while I still like our chances "guarantee" is overstated.

I hear you, but the ACC isn't getting two teams in. The Big 12 will either have a three loss Oklahoma or an Oklahoma State team coming off two straight losses (along with a pretty small fan base). Stanford doesn't travel well and was in the Orange Bowl last year.

I strongly believe Michigan is the most appealing option out there from the perspective of a bowl organizer. Even if Georgia, LSU, and Alabama end up in the BCS, I think Michigan gets in. The only concern I have is Stanford getting an auto-bid as a member of the top-4 with three SEC teams in the BCS. Both happening is really unlikely.

All that said, we can argue all day about which 10 teams deserve to be in the BCS.

I'm all for the Sugar Bow, but I just don't want to play Houston.  I want a real game that will challenge this team and see how far we've come.  We need a measuring stick game.  Stanford would be cool....I wouldn't mind VaTech either....
