Ron Zook to Ohio State?

Submitted by althegreat23 on

It's not a rumor or anything, but this morning I was watching Iowa and Illinois from 2008 and I started researching Ron Zook and I found some interesting tidbits.

1. He was born in Loudonville, Ohio

2. He was an assistant at Ohio State, excuse me "Ohio"

As you know Ron Zook is on the hot seat every year and could be very possibly be fired after this year. I know it will never happen but, what do you say Mgoblog community? Am I the only one that would love to see Ron Zook in that ugly scarlet and gray?

After his very 'meh' stint at Florida, I can't see him landing a top tier head coaching job again.  Especially given his meh stint at Illinois currently.

He got the talent to Pitt (compared to the rest of the BE); he just couldn't compete when it came time to coach. Every one of his teams was more talented than Kelly's, yet he didn't deliver come gametime with the BCS on the line.

AFAIK (and I attended Pitt) we had the most draft picks out of the BE during his years, but never went to a BCS game. That should be a good indicator of the disparity.

Houston Nut at Ole Miss.

Les Miles brings in incredible classes but people do question his actual coaching (he had 2 losses when he won the National title).

It has yet to be seen how he does on the field but Lane Kiffen is a prime candidate.

Mark Stoops at Arizona. Every year we hear how talented they are and how they are going to break through and every year they end up with 5 losses.

EDIT: I almost forgot Dabo Sweeney at Clemson, Charlie Weiss when he was at ND (Miss you big guy XOXO), and Randy Shannon when he was at Miami.

has really done good things with that program. They havent reached expectations in most years but you gotta understand there wasnt any expectations before he got there. 5 losses at that school might be the ceiling except for maybe a special year every now and again.

You are not the only one in Michigan who would love to see it, but I hate to tell you - not a chance in hell.

OSU will never take a Illinois throw away.

As much as I would love to see Zook go to Ohio State, there must be mutual attraction.  Zook is on the hot seat for a reason and OSU will likely shy away.

Maybe he doesn't have the greatest scheme of all time, but he coaches up 3 star kids into NFL prospects on a regular basis. I don't know of any coach that could appease the fanbase down there. You have to preach Ohio, and coach a little football on the side as it stands. Any coach coming in will be replacing Tressel, if they keep Fickell for a few seasons then Zook wouldn't have to compete with their martyred saint/dirty football coach's memory. Zook's paid pretty well at Iowa, though. It'll cost them unless he's released.

I thought Ohio State made Fickell their permanant coach for forever and ever and ever?  After all, they removed the "interim" label...
