Ron Thompson to Visit?

Submitted by ryebreadboy on

According to Scout (Tom Beaver, so take it FWIW), Ron Thompson told Trieu at SMSB that he just talked to Michigan two days ago and is planning to visit soon.

I'm glad to see this, as I think he's a phenomenal athlete.  The real question is, what does this say for positions?  Is Thompson good enough to play WR?  Or do the coaches think Williams is moving to OL?  Three TEs seems like a lot when we have undeniable need at WR.

OL is a little of a reach... WR/TE sounds more plausible. I would like to see a pure WR added to this class instead but hey, if the coaches think he can contribute, why not?

did anybody else hear the guy call into 97.1 last week and claim to be the coach of Southfield High? He basically said that one of his players was being recruited and once the Michigan offer came through "it was over".

He seems like a good kid and is probably the best of the 3 TE's we are recruting including the 2 commits.  He was close to committing before both Williams and Funchess committed back to back.  Williams is already 260 lbs and if he adds any weight over his senior year, he may be too big for TE.  I believe I read somewhere he is going to be playing OT this season as well. He may project better to tackle at the next level which means we could go after Thompson still.  Also, God forbid we dont get Stanford/Washington, we could move Funchess to WR and still fit Thompson in the class.

I loved how Hoke and crew began this class and have gotten to this point-but I am not hugely impressed how they are handling the class size at this point-I just hope they are making sure they are filling all the holes that the seem most important.

Take Thomspon as a WR and watch him soar. Look at Calvin Johnson out of high school .. 6'4.5 215 -- Ron Thompson is 6'4 215. Thompson coule be a beast at WR, and will cause all kinds of matchup problems.

I' would prefer that we take Calvin Johnson.  I mean, his film is amazing, and he seems to be pretty athletic.  But you say that Ron Thmopson is the same type of player as him, and wants to go to Michigan, so let's just take him.
