Ron Kramer a colorful Trailblazer

I know Lynn Henning has been subject to much deserved scorn around here lately, but he may have found what he's really good at, being an old guy, in being the one take a look back at Ron Kramer, the man: http://www.detnews.com/article/20100913/SPORTS0201/9130352/1131/sports/… Beckmann compares him to Jim Thorpe, Dufek talks about his multi-sport talent, and Hanlon says he wasn't a phony, a real Michigan Man. If you remember him, either as a player, or after, a nice remembrance of him. If you never knew anything about him, and love Michigan Football, worth a look.

...by Jerry Green in the Detroit News is a must read.  It chronicles the care with which Kramer treated Bennie Oosterbaan's ashes after his death in 1990.

"Everywhere," Kramer told me, many times, about scattering Bennie Oosterbaan's ashes around their university campus and Ann Arbor town.  "Bennie's everywhere."

A three time All-American football player, Kramer...

...won...nine varsity letters, was captain of the basketball team and participated in track. He was a football terror on the basketball court, elbowing and muscling opposing centers. One memorable night, he pounded Michigan State All America Johnny Green into submission.

Rest in peace, Ron Kramer: Michigan Man.

He was a tough man; a kind man; and to his death, a Michigan Man. That was Ron Kramer. He died Saturday a few hours before a Michigan football game.

Was a legend in his time, highly regarded at the best end to ever play the game. He finished 2nd in the Heisman race two years in a row, and after graduating remained an integral part in the Michigan football tradition. He even continued to deliver 3 bushels of apples to Schembechler Hall in keeping with a tradition started by a gentleman who did it when Kramer was a player.

Michigan lost a legend and a Michigan Man.

RIP Ron Kramer.

P.S. - Oh, and he also got ejected from an OSU game for trying to strip the ball from a Buckeye back (the ref thought he was trying to punch the player!), so he's got that going for him :) Sorry, I just love that story.
