Roh vs. Herron
I understand all the Roh love on the board as he was truly impressive for a true freshman on the line, but I thought Herron made a few plays as well. While Roh did the start, it seemed to me they split snaps about 50/50, does that seem right?
One play from Herron in particular caught my eye: in the first half Herron got sucked inside on a shotgun read, and was taken out by the guard(I think). He gets up, turns around and catches the RB from behind after like 8 yards or something. He may have scored. It was a crable-esque freakshow of athleticism and effort, after a crable-esque mental error. (Although maybe it was his job to crash on the qb to force the handoff for a LB who missed his assignment or whatever, I'm not going pretend to know).
Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if Herron gets a few more snaps than Roh against ND, as I think ND's run game is a little more straight forward and it's possible Roh was better suited for the Western spread.
Thoughts?

I don't see a signifcant reason to change the percentage of snaps given to Roh and Herron. Each stayed fresh and made some plays. Who "starts" is somewhat irrelevant if snaps are as evenly distributed as they seemed to be on Saturday.
I think the conventional wisdom holds true regarding the deployment of the two. On obvious passing downs, Roh is probably the better choice. When it comes to probably running downs, Herron will probably be on the field.
I also noticed the play you mentioned, and Herron did a great job. Both guys deserve to play.

I agree. Both played very very well.

I like 'em both.

Saved a big chunk of yards, even if he was out of position to begin with.
I do like Herron, but IMHE it seems like Craig Roh went to the same school of "it" that Tate attended; he makes his presence felt beyond what we should expect from a frosh.

Besides the obvious like Mike Hart, Mercury Hayes, Ty Law, et al.?

If you are going to include Mercury Hayes I think the list may be rather long. During Saturday's telecast Craig James said that Denard has "it".

I think "Roh and Herron Vs. ND" would have been a better title. I think there are enough snaps for both to get plenty of work. Nice dilemma for the coaches.

it's the passing game that's going to beat us against ND if they win and Roh is our version of Mad Max; I feel he will find his way to Clausen more than Herron will. That said, Herron is no slouch and will play well also.

This was my first time actually getting a look at Roh, and for all the "wiry" comments, he looked bigger than I expected. What a motor too, should be a fun one to watch this season and beyond!

Yeah . . . he looks like he might be a bit bigger than 238.

Roh is beastly ND better double team him if they are smart

Don't +1 this guy. He's a troll.
Also, how many guys do you expect Notre Dame to double team? Graham . . . Martin . . . Roh . . . who else? Not that I expect you to answer these questions, since you're a troll. I just want to point out how stupid this comment is.

How do you see our secondary matching up with their receivers? I didn't see the ND game live but Floyd's long TD's looked like busted coverage, one was a catch and long run. And then the same vice versa - our receivers and their secondary. This is what I am most worried about Saturday.

Roh is a beast. That being said, I like them both.

The "Roh vs. Herron" case was also a landmark in American history.
