Robert Griffin III gives me hope

Submitted by joeyb on

Robert Griffin III has thrown 5 TD passes so far tonight in Baylor's beatdown of TCU. It's not like these are on short passes either. These are 40 yard touch passes down the sidelines.

Watching this just makes me way more excited to see how much Denard has improved tomorrow.

except all the talk was about how would TCU's offense be? Everyone was talking about how there D wasn't going to have much of a transition.

Well looks like they need to start from square 1, cause they look like trash

Sometimes a college quarterback's passing ability improves greatly from one season to the next. This has both happened and not happened thousands of times. I don't know exactly how RGIII's improvement or lack thereof would be related to Denard's more than any other QB's would be, but okay.

He was a more polished passer as a freshman than Denard was probably even last year. Dude is a great, great talent. This is probably a more realistic expectation for Denard next year than tomorrow.

I'll take sophomore before he got hurt or last year RGIII as a passer with Denard's legs though.

What Robert Griffin doing well has to do with having hope for Denard. Two distinctly different QBs, sans their skin color. Griffin was a prized QB recruit that the Longhorns desperately wanted. He's always had a ton of polish and was setting records as a freshman for Baylor.

My hopes don't lie with Denard. His body of work is enough evidence to suggest that this guy is coachable and has an insane desire to improve himself - he will most definitely be a better, smarter QB this season.

My hopes lie with Al Borges and his ability to take advantage of what he has the same way Griffin's coaches do.

To be fair, they haven't beaten a ranked team in 7 years, beating another Texas school is a big deal for them, and it was still a hell of a way to open the season. I wouldn't be surprised if we stormed the field after an exciting win over ND or Ohio (assuming they're still relevant in November) this year.

Your post failed. You have to love the emotion and intensity from Baylor especially given:
1) Football is an intense game
2) It was their first game if the season
3) TCU has been so dominate the last couple of years

One absolutely amazing stat from this game (that I'm certain won't be in any press on this game tomorrow) is that Baylor had exactly one drive in the second half longer than 3 plays (the one was the drive that resulted in the winning FG). I just thought that was fascinating, and an interesting reminder of our offense last year, because even though Baylor had short drives, they still put up two long TDs. They just couldn't run any clock. If they could have, this game never would have been close.

Just came home to catch the amazing last quarter. By the time I tuned in, Baylor's offense looked hopelessly conservative and it made me think that Griffin was probably just running all over TCU in the first three quarters. I was shocked when I saw his passing stats.

TCU 20 to 1 chances to win the national title THIS year?

I think not.

Also, Phil Steele needs to probably retire the derogatory phrase "Baylored" going forward, as in, "you've had too many coaching changes."
