Rivals Staff Predictions on UM Season

Submitted by FingerMustache on
I apologize if this was already posted but i didnt see it anywhere. http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=982961 Here is the basic jist (each guy gives a brief explanation for their predictions): Chris Balas Overall Record: 8-4 Big Ten Record: 4-4 Key Wins: Notre Dame, Michigan State, Wisconsin John Borton Overall Record: 7-5 Big Ten Record: 4-4 Key Wins: Michigan State, Wisconsin Michael Spath Overall Record: 8-4 Big Ten Record: 5-3 Big Wins: Michigan State, Penn State Josh Helmholdt Overall Record: 5-7 Big Ten Record: 3-5 Big Wins: Purdue, at Michigan State, Indiana Matt Pargoff Overall Record: 8-4 Big Ten Record: 4-4 Big Wins: Notre Dame, Ohio State Ace "The Intern" Anbender Overall Record: 8-5 (with a bowl victory) Big Ten Record: 3-5 Big Wins: Notre Dame, Iowa I thought that only us blue-blooded folks were predicting an 8-4 season, but apparently some people over at rivals agree. Except for Josh Helmoldt who basically says that hes too lazy to do any research on off-season progression and will wait until the season to make any reassessments.

Helmholdt apparently totally forgot about Donovan's plethora of injuries last season when he mentioned how disappointed he was in D-War's sophomore season. Not that that excuses his season, but c'mon, the more I hear about Donovan's injuries the more I am surprised he played, period. For the guy's who have a Rivals account, I laughed at Balas' dig at Helmholdt's "novel."

excessive optimism. sorry, not trying to be a prick but if we go 7-5 or better i will go to whatever bowl game that is and throw a tailgate, damn the costs, for every member of mgoblog that attends. quote it, bookmark it, i don't care. and i'm not even saying they'll do worse, i'm saying if we go 7-5 or better, i will be so damn excited i will be willing to part with that money in a heartbeat.

Me too. Although if you look at our first team D, we might not suck as bad as we think. Martin, Graham, and Van Bergen make up a pretty good line. Brown, Herron, Ezeh, and Mouton should be good too. We should be able to stop the run with this front 7. Warren and Cissoko should be good. We don't know about our safeties yet. Those are some good starters. If one or more gets injured, say goodnight. But we should be able to key in on the run this year. I guess we'll have to make QBs burn our safeties again.

I think you are generally right about the record. I think Michigan will be ragged on no matter what the end result this year. If we go 5-7 they will say it's still a losing record. If we go 7-5 they'll say we SHOULD have won those many games with the teams on the schedule. The reality is, they would be right. If we had this schedule 10 years ago, we would be expected to have double-digit wins. While 7-5 would be just what the Dr. ordered for 2009 to begin the climb back to relevancy, we do expect better. I still feel sick that the last M victory over OSU was 2003. We cannot settle for 7-5 friends. But it would be good for this year. GO BLUE!

at a time and slowly we will start shutting people up again. We have always looked at the big picture at Michigan but for this season we need to look at each play , each snap etc. We need to start winning those again before we can start saying how may wins we may end up with.

I like how Pargoff predicts a Michigan victory over Ohio State but doesn't bring it up in his paragraph. "Oh, yeah, you know, I think the offense will really come around, we pulled a pretty tough road schedule we'llbeatohiostateforthefirsttimeinsixyears and I think everything's shaping up nicely."
