Rivals Ranking Release Date?
In regard to football recruiting, I thought Rivals prospect rankings came out this week. I may be wrong, but regardless this has to be coming up soon. Also, since I am that bored and that much of a troll right now, what are your predictions for star/rankings of our commits or anyone else of interest?
I know stars/rankings according to these sites are only marginally reliable, but lets just do this for kicks. My predictions are:
Beyer: 4*, 5.8
Rock: 4*, 5.8
Brown: 3*, 5.7
Hollowell: 3*, 5.7
Conway: 3*, 5.6
I believe they come out tomorrow if I'm not mistaken. As of right now I think all the guys should be rated four stars except for Greg Brown who will probably be a three star.
I think Hollowell will be 4 star. Conway SHOULD be a 4 star as well. But with all the emphasis on *speed*, who knows..

just made my week.
I think Conway will be a 5.8; the rest looks right
I agree that he should be, but Rivals is stubborn. Conway flew way under everybody's radar; the Rivals guys might be hesitant to admit their lapse.
My guesses:
Beyer: 5.9 4*
Hollowell: 5.8 4*
Rock: 5.7 3*
Conway: 5.7 3*
Brown: 5.7/5.6 3*
With Newberg talking him up in a mailbag post...

...and Helmholdt also expressing strong approval...

...and his frequent appearances at camps and whatnot, I think he's a safe bet for four stars.
Silly question, but I always wondered what exactly the Rivals Rating is?
- 6.1 Franchise Player; considered one of the elite prospects in the country, generally among the nation's top 25 players overall; deemed to have excellent pro potential; high-major prospect
- 6.0-5.8 All-American Candidate; high-major prospect; considered one of the nation's top 300 prospects; deemed to have pro potential and ability to make an impact on college team
- 5.7-5.5 All-Region Selection; considered among the region's top prospects and among the top 750 or so prospects in the country; high-to-mid-major prospect; deemed to have pro potential and ability to make an impact on college team
- 5.4-5.0 Division I prospect; considered a mid-major prospect; deemed to have limited pro potential but definite Division I prospect; may be more of a role player
- 4.9 Sleeper; no Rivals.com expert knew much, if anything, about this player; a prospect that only a college coach really knew about
the 5.7-5.5 range (aka Three Stars) makes me wonder why people b*tch about three star recruits so vehemently. According to Rivals' description three stars are pretty d*mn good players.
People bitch because they aren't Four and Five Star prospects, not because Three Stars aren't any good.
How much crow will be eaten on this board if Conway gets 4 stars?
Not much. Folks here are pretty high on him.
Maybe you forgot about the commit meltdown. But there was a heavy dosage of people on here who were pretty rattled when we didn't know much about Conway.
...to the Conway board meltdown can be found in the User-Curated MGoHallOfFame if anyone's interested in revisiting it. Recommended reading for all newcomers and a good reminder on how not to react to a signing for the entire MGoBlogerati.
If this board's predictions are right... it will be another RR class of "3.5" star recruits with Rock/ Conway/Hollowell highly ranked by one, and 3-starred by the other.
If we've learned anything over the last couple years it's that Rivals/Scout don't know what to do with UM recruits (except ignore them after they commit).
at 1pm eastern time for Rivals100.
RE: Hollowell
I saw an analyst who predicted he'd be in the top 6 or 7 in the state of Michigan. Based upon past experience, I think that would make him a 4*.
And he's going to the AA game. I know there are a some 3 stars that go, but that should be some indicator that he'll be a 4 star.
I could be wrong, but I don't think he's GOING to the AAA game. He's a nominee at this point. The actual roster is TBD.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please...
Yeah, that probably right. As soon as I posted that I doubted that I remembered that correctly, and what you're saying makes a lot more sense.
I agree with the OP's star ratings, but I think Conway will be a high 3-star (5.7). The guys at The Wolverine have said that they think he should end up as a 4-star, but that he's probably too far under the radar right now to be a 4-star off the bat.
Beyer - 4-star - 5.9
Rock - 4-star - 5.8
Conway - 3-star - 5.7
Hollowell - 3-star - 5.7
Brown - 3-star - 5.6
The rivals 100 is out. Link
Some notables...
#27 Kris Frost (wow)
#34 - Demetrius Hart
#49 DeAnthony Arnett
#57 Anthony Zettel
#75 Justice Hayes
#81 Andre Y
That's impressive.. I didn't think Frost, Hart, Zettel or Hayes would be up there.
Also, while our chances may be slim with these, they are notables and have mentioned UM
Doran Grant # 23
Sammy Watkins # 39
Timmy Jernigan # 45
Trey Depriest # 93
They also have Zettel listed as a DE.
I am pissed to see Lawrence Thomas ranked as a 5*, #11 in the country, although I am not surprised. Just jealous I guess.
i didn't think Kris Frost would be that much higher than Trey Depriest, but that's pretty awesome. He would be a huge pick-up. I'm not that surprised about Hart, if you look at his offer list, it would make sense he'd be that high.
One of the guys I've been high on is Giorgio Newberry who comes in at #97. He's a big kid and a great athlete, almost like a taller, heavier Josh Furman - could play a number of positions well.
I don't really see the similarity between Newberry and Furman, but Newberry is pretty awesome. He could be an OT, a DT, or a DE. Whatever position he plays, I think he'll be good.
I don't think Newberry and Furman are similar players, but they're alike in that they are sought after more for their athleticism than their ability to play one position particularly well. Also, many schools are recruiting them more many positions. Some people wanted Furman at RB, some for safety, some for LB, etc. Same thing with Newberry, albeit at different positions because he's a bigger guy.
Some players are the "he's a good prospect because he's a great (insert position here)," and some are "he's big, strong, and fast, we'll find a place for him." Both of these guys are the latter.
Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.
#34 Demetrius Hart .... :D
