premature congrats. One thing we can be sure of: he'll take fewer asinine penalties than Abdelkader
Thanks to ugly transitions between Fulmer/Kiffin/Dooley/Davis, Tennessee is on the edge of APR penalties for football.

strong indictment of AAU right heah
Per Tim Sullivan's twitter. Though he thinks UM is in good shape. Interesting to say the least...
I SAID "M" AS IN MANCY...
I hope all the people who were happy Caleb decommitted read this and rethink their position.
The people who were happy Caleb decommitted were off-base, but I don't think these predictions mean anything either. We all have paid just as much, if not more attention to the situation as them, and I don't believe they have any information we don't. Garnett has been very quiet about where he will be going, but all the reports coming from here recently have been positive for UM. Unless Garnett has been saying similar things about Stanford as well, I think we are in better shape. Plus there was that cryptic Pipkins tweet the other day, which could have been referring only to Diamond or Garnett.
I will still disappointed about Stacey because he was the only one slotted to play center. If the first 3 snaps of our bowl game are any indication, it's a pretty important position to have depth at. I think a lot of the people happy about Casey were anticipating us getting 2/3 of Garnett, Kozan and Jordan Diamond. Still possible, but won't be easy.
Usually, when someone decommits, the "happy to see him go" posts are just people who are actually pissed, but want to find a "reason" why it doesn't hurt. This is sorta like, "You can't fire me; I quit" or "I told her to take a hike."
Josh Helmholdt has Garnett going to STANFORD ???? WTF
I think he's likely going to Stanford just because virtually everything positive about UM's chances is coming from Garnett himself.
There is no time, sir, at which ties do not matter.
Upon what are these analysts basing their predictions, then?
These are the same analysts that predicted that Ronald Johnson was going to Michigan and Donovan Warren was going to USC. We know how both of those ended up. Plus Ace, Aquaman, and Tom all say we're in really good shape. I trust them.
I've never watched "Rudy" because I can't stand notre dame.
Recruiting updates from pay-sites = reliable information
Recruiting "predictions" like these = gut feelings based off of hardly any more information than you have
In other words, this changes nothing. Knowing what we know, I think we're still in good shape.
COYS and Vive Le Rouge of Detroit FC!
I agree. I don't want to cause panic on the board, everything I've heard and read has Garnett in good shape with Michigan. I found this post more shocking, and decided to throw it on the board.
Stanford. We never seem to get the close calls.
Dee Hart and Kris Frost?

"If you don't think you're a winner, you don't belong here." - Vince Lombardi -
I don't think half of these "experts" have even been reading up on the Garnett situation recently. All besides Helmholdt, probably couldn't even tell you that Hoke was in Garnett's house last night.
Helmholdt is admittedly not close to the situation, he went with what their west coast recruiting guy said (link). Considering that he didn't post anything about Garnett's in-home last night, and hasn't posted anything in at least five or six days, I'm going to go ahead and say he may not be that close to Garnett.
Additionally, Gorney talks about Garnett and Stanford here at around 4:00 minutes in (link). He goes out of his way to praise Stanford and why Garnett is going to choose them (Garnett wants to be a doctor, smart, etc.), but not a word about Michigan as an academic power. Think we've found out why Gorney thinks the way he does.
Also, stick around for some Gorney salivating about how great Tosh Lupoi is, as well as that day's news of an OSU (ntOSU) assistant leaving for Washington. Lulz.
Who doesn't love a good guru fight?
some "experts" on Rivals made a somewhat arbitrary prediction that he wouldn't go to Michigan??? EVERYBODY PANIC!
"This is an elite job, and will continue to be an elite job. This is Michigan ferodsakes!"
Nobody just has gut feelings. There must be some evidence for them saying that.
I recognize that I don't get my news from the most unbiased of sources, sol what out there would cause one to think he is leaning towards Stanford? Everything I have heard out of Garnett himself implies Michigan is the leader.
if had to make a bet for money, or it was my job to be right most of the time. I think he's still thinking. He's a smart kid. Either way, he's going to have a great career/life.
Maybe so but knowing that Josh is a pretty bright guy and that both schools have top level med programs it comes down to one more key factor. One football program has a long history of being good and is rising again whereas the other program has a history of being medicore and it's uncertain where they'll be heading once Luck is gone. Sure there's the distance thing but I think that issues is more than negated with the Magnuson connection.
Let's be honest though, they have the easiest excuse ever when their wrong- "oh well! That's recruiting!" So I don't think their livelihood is on the line with these predictions.
I know from experience dude. If you know what I mean.
So Tim, who has focused on M recruiting specifically for years, thinks Garnett will be blue, and everyone else (except one other guy on there I saw) think Stanford, and they're mostly just gut feelings? Yeah, I'm not worried.
If you need drugs to be a good writer, you're not a good writer.
is that everyone else isn't getting information from a Michigan perspective. Guess we'll have to wait and see until Thursday.
This is a good point. It is one thing for Garnett to be sugar coating our chances, but it is another thing if our perspective on our chances come only from Michigan sources, which are somewhat biased (and justifiablely so since Michigan is awesome; that's my bias). We shall see.
"The unexamined life is not worth living." Socrates.
I think we shall know our answer come Thursday evening and everyone should just coooooool out.
That's next Thursday, correct?
Now, I understand if you don't follow recruiting very closely of late (do you??) but that's this Thursday.
This Thursday, the 26th.
USING GRATUITOUS AMOUNTS OF CAPS LOCK SINCE APRIL 2011
The reason I asked was because a while back I looked at this, and it says Feb 1st.
I guess that would be next Wed though.
Garnett isn't commiting on NSD, but on the 26th.
Ok, that clears things up. Thanks.
For someone who doesn't follow recruiting closely anymore, you seem to be following it rather closely.
Stanford may have a (very) slight advantage over us when it comes to academic ranking in The Times Higher Ed World Rankings, QS World Uni Rankings, and the last (and least) U.S. News, but academically, we are no pushover. I think he knows that Michigan has a stellar academic reputation but also has a very deep/rich tradition and is a big stepping stone to the NFL. Not to mention that, with the departure of Luck and Harbaugh, the Stanford program is a big question mark, whereas we seem to be on the rise. Also, it seems that Josh has developed a really good rapport with the Michigan coaches (I have not really heard much about his relationship with the Standford staff), which is pretty important, and is very close with several current commits. I have heard nothing but praise and positive things from Josh when it comes to Michigan. As for Stanford, I have not heard Josh make too many statement about them. I guess the other advantage Stanford has is that it is close to home, if that is something that is important for Josh. I am not sure if the Rivals analysts have some insider info but most of the public info, on the contrary, seems to be pointing to Michigan.
you forgot ARWU
Soon to be the #1 fitness and training center in AA
I am not concerned by any of this. Why?
- Helmholdt is the Midwest guy. Has no insight on Garnett.
- Their West coast guy is probably going to think he'd chose the (recently) better Stanford program, which is closer to home.
- Tim Sullivan and Tom VanHaren think he's going blue (60/40 ish but still..)
Unless Garnett has been messing with what he's saying to Tim and Tom recently, I think they've got this stuff wrong.
"to make a complete evaluation off video w/o seeing guys in-person - I don't believe that at all." - Josh Helmholdt
It should be noted that Josh is the Rivals version of our former TomVH. Big time Michigan fan who has to come off as unbiased. He was always high integrity with recruits, but he probably takes more than a passing interest in the recruitment of Garnett.
I have had two conversations with Josh. Neither can or could be misconstrued like the Reeves conversation. Take what you would from what he told me, but I would think he likes Michigan more based on what he himself said.

Text or talk?
A Journey of Father and Son
Text, the first of which was transcribed exactly as written. This evening I will edit my conversation with him to have the exact transcription. Hard to believe he's favoring Stanford if what he says to me is true.
Could your reeves interview read wrong? The kid is 50/50 as i took it
Its called a royale with cheese
It's just a ploy to get more people to read and get "insider".
This is why I will never pay for recruiting information.
He only got the job because he's a Michigan Man not because he was the best. Is that what Michigan is all about? You do the best, you get the job. This MM meme is crap.
the premium sites do many things to get people to pay for insider (the hilariously leading "HAS SO AND SO NAMED A LEADER?" headlines where the answer is "no" are the classic example), but I don't see how publicly-available predictions count as that. Scout's west coast guy thinks he goes to Stanford too. Obviously I hope everyone is wrong, but a number of people seem to be getting the same impression.
But Sam Webb says this morning, that Scout's west coast guy is far less confident than he used to be about it. Sam said that it was the west coast guy said it was like 51-49 now, and that was before Coach Hoke's visit. FWIW, Sam seemed to be quietly confident that Garnett would pick Michigan.
I think the OP meant to say "Standford", but I'll let it slide this time.
i'd pick UM, but stanford is much better academically and are vacting to spots on their offensive line for underclassman who are projected to be top 15 draft picks. there are plenty of reasons to pick um over stanford, but in terms of recent success of olinemen and academics--two important factors--stanford is the easy choice.
Is this some sort of super-sophisticated recruiting lingo?
As far as recent success goes, the primary architect of Stanford's resurgence just missed out on a Super Bowl appearance in his first NFL season. Considering the mind-boggling brain fart that current Stanford HC David Shaw had in the final critical moments of the Fiesta Bowl, I wouldn't be hugely confident in his coaching prowess.
Grammar, meet qwatkins. I think you (to) have a lot to catch up on.

Stop while you can. Here are 4 individuals from MGO who followed recruiting too closely in the last couple of years. And people think being the Prez will age you.
