Rivals predicting Garnett to Stanford--Tim thinks UM

Per Tim Sullivan's twitter. Though he thinks UM is in good shape.  Interesting to say the least...

The people who were happy Caleb decommitted were off-base, but I don't think these predictions mean anything either.  We all have paid just as much, if not more attention to the situation as them, and I don't believe they have any information we don't.  Garnett has been very quiet about where he will be going, but all the reports coming from here recently have been positive for UM.  Unless Garnett has been saying similar things about Stanford as well, I think we are in better shape.  Plus there was that cryptic Pipkins tweet the other day, which could have been referring only to Diamond or Garnett.

I will still disappointed about Stacey because he was the only one slotted to play center.  If the first 3 snaps of our bowl game are any indication, it's a pretty important position to have depth at.  I think a lot of the people happy about Casey were anticipating us getting 2/3 of Garnett, Kozan and Jordan Diamond.  Still possible, but won't be easy.

Usually, when someone decommits, the "happy to see him go" posts are just people who are actually pissed, but want to find a "reason" why it doesn't hurt.  This is sorta like, "You can't fire me; I quit" or "I told her to take a hike."

Also, stick around for some Gorney salivating about how great Tosh Lupoi is, as well as that day's news of an OSU (ntOSU) assistant leaving for Washington.  Lulz.

I guess that would be next Wed though.

Stanford may have a (very) slight advantage over us when it comes to academic ranking in The Times Higher Ed World Rankings, QS World Uni Rankings, and the last (and least) U.S. News, but academically, we are no pushover. I think he knows that Michigan has a stellar academic reputation but also has a very deep/rich tradition and is a big stepping stone to the NFL. Not to mention that, with the departure of Luck and Harbaugh, the Stanford program is a big question mark, whereas we seem to be on the rise. Also, it seems that Josh has developed a really good rapport with the Michigan coaches (I have not really heard much about his relationship with the Standford staff), which is pretty important, and is very close with several current commits. I have heard nothing but praise and positive things from Josh when it comes to Michigan. As for Stanford, I have not heard Josh make too many statement about them. I guess the other advantage Stanford has is that it is close to home, if that is something that is important for Josh. I am not sure if the Rivals analysts have some insider info but most of the public info, on the contrary, seems to be pointing to Michigan.

I am not concerned by any of this.  Why?

- Helmholdt is the Midwest guy.  Has no insight on Garnett.

- Their West coast guy is probably going to think he'd chose the (recently) better Stanford program, which is closer to home.

- Tim Sullivan and Tom VanHaren think he's going blue (60/40 ish but still..)

Unless Garnett has been messing with what he's saying to Tim and Tom recently, I think they've got this stuff wrong.

"to make a complete evaluation off video w/o seeing guys in-person - I don't believe that at all." - Josh Helmholdt

It should be noted that Josh is the Rivals version of our former TomVH.  Big time Michigan fan who has to come off as unbiased.  He was always high integrity with recruits, but he probably takes more than a passing interest in the recruitment of Garnett.

I have had two conversations with Josh. Neither can or could be misconstrued like the Reeves conversation. Take what you would from what he told me, but I would think he likes Michigan more based on what he himself said.

This is why I will never pay for recruiting information.

He only got the job because he's a Michigan Man not because he was the best.  Is that what Michigan is all about?  You do the best, you get the job.  This MM meme is crap.

the premium sites do many things to get people to pay for insider (the hilariously leading "HAS SO AND SO NAMED A LEADER?" headlines where the answer is "no" are the classic example), but I don't see how publicly-available predictions count as that.  Scout's west coast guy thinks he goes to Stanford too.  Obviously I hope everyone is wrong, but a number of people seem to be getting the same impression.

There is no time, sir, at which ties do not matter.

But Sam Webb says this morning, that Scout's west coast guy is far less confident than he used to be about it. Sam said that it was the west coast guy said it was like 51-49 now, and that was before Coach Hoke's visit. FWIW, Sam seemed to be quietly confident that Garnett would pick Michigan.

i'd pick UM, but stanford is much better academically and are vacting to spots on their offensive line for underclassman who are projected to be top 15 draft picks.  there are plenty of reasons to pick um over stanford, but in terms of recent success of olinemen and academics--two important factors--stanford is the easy choice.

Is this some sort of super-sophisticated recruiting lingo?

As far as recent success goes, the primary architect of Stanford's resurgence just missed out on a Super Bowl appearance in his first NFL season. Considering the mind-boggling brain fart that current Stanford HC David Shaw had in the final critical moments of the Fiesta Bowl, I wouldn't be hugely confident in his coaching prowess.
