Picked UCLA. Also said that there will be a QB controversy. So much for unanimous.
Yeah the majority picked Michigan, but it was not unanimous. Still either way it shows the QB play is improving in the eye of reporters.
thinks M's QB play will be improved. He said he thought UCLA's would be more GREATLY improved.
"Michigan certainly has talent at quarterback with sophomores Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson and true freshman Devin Gardner, but I wonder whether they all can co-exist. I think there is a potential for a quarterback controversy, and that is not what the Wolverines need."
In a nutshell, he is saying we have talent but expects turmoil/controversy. He never clearly said that we have improved, just that we have talent.
to mean that he was in gen'l agreement w. the other guys. But it doesn't say that. The next time I urge someone to read more carefully, I should probably give it a shot myself.
I think as a whole, they were saying that YES Michigan has alot of talent. That they expected Tate to improve and down the road there would be plenty of options at the QB postition...As for me, im really excited. I just want the season to start, like last month ago....GO BLUE!
I guess it's a good thing that most picked Michigan, but when you compare to Tennessee and UCLA, shouldn't this be fairly obvious? Tennessee will have a new starter and a new offense. UCLA gets Prince back, but he has never played very well. If UCLA's QB play improves, I'm guessing it's more because of Norm Chow coming in at OC than anything else. At Michigan, we have 2 returning QB's, both of whom got game experience last season. We also have continuity of the coaching staff. Lastly, we actually have all 3 QB's in spring practice this year. Michigan's QB play should outpace Tennessee and UCLA by far, barring a bad spell of injuries.
Pretty sure he's been at UCLA since Neuhisal (sp?) got there. I know he was there last year.
They think our QBs will improve from their freshman to sophomore seasons? Inconceivable!
that word means what you think it means..
And we think we've had bad quarterback play lately.
This will be the first year RR has been here and not had to play a first-year QB out of neccessity. The position really can't do anything but improve. I'm always optimistic, but I still think this year is the year that we can all say "Michigan football is back" with a degree of certainty.
Michigan football will not only be back, but better than ever (or at least headed in that direction).
It has to be better next year. Having two QBs with a year in the system is a first for RR at Michigan. That plus a better line should really signal success. They just have to cover someone on defense...
And we get Cojo in the fall, it will be interesting to see how he fares.
glad ND didn't make that list
I'm glad I didn't go to ND.
QB play is almost certain to plummet in 2010? This was a list of teams whose QB play is expected to improve.
Oh, I guess I should add... =).
whether we're winning more games than we lose against conference teams. If we're beating MSU, Wisky, Illinois, PSU, and OSU, everybody will be happy. If we're still getting our heads handed to us, the QB position won't be the only controversial thing.
reports from scrimmage have two people saying Devin Gardener was the better QB, and "it wasn't even close..."
most people on rivals are flipping out about it (the fact we will play the 3rd freshman QB in 3 years). make of it as you will.
but yeah, I see zero chance of DG redshirting. Unless Tate or Denard start off 6-0 or something.
Zero chance of a redshirt? Come on Karpo. Until today, all the reports about him have been that he is a little ways behind both other guys in terms of technique and learning the offense. I don't doubt that he's able to look like a star running the few plays he does know, because he is a super talent, but the experts and coaches agree that he's got a ways to go before he's ready to play Big Ten football. One good performance in an intrasquad scrimmage does not negate that.
I think an injury is the only way the redshirt comes off.
its sounded like Gardner was getting more and more time with the 2s as the week went on and today was the first snaps he he's had with the 1s. RR said today's scrimmage was the most important of the spring, thats probably a good indicator of the future.
Whenever I am prepared to buy into the hype of Gardner as the starter this fall, my mind hearkens back to the state title game.
Lowell 27 Inkster 6.
I think Gardner has a tremendous future, but I don't think it starts this September.
