Rivals Mike says "today I think Michigan would be choice for Da'Shawn Hand" EDIT: Also Sandwiches
Gun to head today panera is my choice for lunch instead of jimmy john's.
You would too if you had a gun to your head.
Potbelly > Panera > Subway > Jimmy Johns
No way is Subway above Jimmy Johns. No. Way. Turkey based ham; that's my closing argument.
edit: TURKEY BASED HAM.
oh and Jared is creepy.
Tony baloney's is livonia has the best subs around
If you really want to tell the difference, hold a piece of Subway turkey, with both hands until it is a single layer, up to the window. You will see light come through it, becuase it has a lot more fluids in it than actual meat. Now, try the same with Jimmy John's.
If you need more convincing, taste meat from both without any condiments. The only thing that is better in Subway is the fresh baked bread smell. Other than that, JJ's is a superior product. When you add in what is, at least down here, superior service, comparing Subway to JJ's is like comparing a Quarter-pounder to a burger at a place like Friday's, Chili's, or Applebees.
is which does D'S Hand prefer? And is it available in Ann Arbor?
Agree also. Subway's chicken is sketchy. Jimmy John's is legit.
Take it from someone who worked at JJ's during college, you're gonna want to rethink your praise of their meat. I couldn't eat there for 2 years after I stopped working there. It's freshly sliced (don't know about Subway but I would assume that's the case there as well), but there is plenty of unnaturalness to it.
Thus I personally don't care about their ham.
Also, I hate Mayo, which is pretty much all JJs throws on their subs.
You're ordering the wrong sandwiches. JJ's italian is delicious, as is their avocado spread. Subway is absolutely the last option in the sub world. JJ's is faster and better.
Also, if you don't want mayo, just say so. Not hard.
No Jersey Mikes???
Jersey Mikes > WG Grinders > Potbellies > Quiznos > JJ > Subway
Anyone who disagrees is wrong.
Gosh I miss Jersey Mike's. That place was delicious. Thanks for reopening that wound jerk
They've got 'em in Chicago. There's at least one downtown in the Loop on Wells Street. If you're ever in the Windy City, you can get your fix.
Or you could travel east all the way to Carpenter Rd, where there's Jersey Mike's ten mins from central campus.
Subway's half baked cookies are worth going there. Jimmy John's are blech.
that the reason for that is Subway bakes them fresh on site. JJ has them done somewhere else, wrapped and shipped. My mother-in-law was a general manager for multiple JJ locations and their business model is very rigid and, imo, overly defined. I like the sammiches, but agree about the cookies.
Dibella's > Bellacino's/Mancino's > Potbelly
All you had to say to end this discussion is Dibellas. The best chain sub shop by far. The only people who would disagree are people who have never been.
Our office was on Eisenhower. Would goto the hospital in the AM, grab Dibellas for lunch at try to see patients in the PM with a Godfather in my gut. Absolutely delicious. Best subs in A2 IMHO.
They are in Troy and Auburn Hills as well FWIW.
They're also in Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut and all over the place in Ohio. However, since I work by the A2 airport, the Eisenhower location is my Dibella's of choice.
Also agree no way Subway > JJ's. What about Penn Station? They opened one near my office and I have yet to try it. I've heard they are not worth the cash.
but IIRC, they have only hot subs. If its a hot day, a cold sub is sometimes just what you want. They do have good fries, though.
Cold subs now. Just ate there twice this month, and both times they asked cold, or grilled?. But they don't offer the Philly cold.
Penn Station numerous times as I have a location close to where I live. I love their chicken salad sub. It is delicious. Also the fresh cut fries are very good.
Went to Penn Station today for lunch. I tried the monthly special roasted artichoke sub. Very good sub and bun and the fresh cut fries were also tasty. They even brought around a free chocolate chip cookie to everyone in the dining area. Not much more expensive than a "value" meal at most fast food restaurants and worth the money.
But Penn Station is good : )
So very very wrong. Granted, I should give them another try since they came out with their Bigs, but Potbelly's used to have the tiniest sandwiches. What am I supposed to do with a 7 inch sandwich? And where is Quizno's on the list? So from my outdated rankings it goes
Jimmy John's > Quizno's > Subway > Potbelly's
If we had more Penn Stations around AA, I'd be a happy guy. But Dibella's and Mancino's would rank ahead of all of these.
is Subway showing up on all these lists? Subway will do in a pinch, but including them in the company of those other places is like comparing Olive Garden to the best Italian restaraunts in town. Sorry, but no.
Olive Garden > Tebow
I attempted to go to Jersey Mike's, but they were not taking cards. I had to default to Subway. I'm regretting it, but not as much as I thought I would. EVERYTHING>Subway (which, consequently = Quizno's)
Get it with either a Shake or Chili (depending on the weather). You'll thank me.
I used to go to Jersey Giant all the time when we had one here. It was AMAZING.
Quiznos> all those others you mentioned.
Firehouse > Quiznos
Bread all tastes like it was baked by the same disgusting robot, meat has no flavor and their cheese is made of pure phthalates. All the rest mentioned range from nicely acceptable to delicious and needn't be compared to Jared's yuck.
Between Potbelly and Panera. Although, I just had a Bacon Turkey Bravo yesterday
Is good if you have money and time to waste.
trivia: who makes jimmy johns lunch meat?
jimmy johns is only good at 2am
JJ's is always good.. but it MAY be better at 2am
I can endorse.
Sixteen in the clip and one in the hole...
R.I.P. Nate Dogg. Gone too soon. Now I have to listen to Ryan Lewis do what is, in my mind, a budget imitation of Nate Dogg's soulful hooks. I mean, come on- "Ain't No Fun"? "The Next Episode"? Sheeeeeit. He wrote the blueprint on being the dude who only sings hooks.
Hold up - HEYY- For my ni***s who be thinkin we soft

I just found out that his son is a 3-star corner with a decent offer sheet, and he plays HS ball with 2015 QB offeree Josh Rosen.
Not only him, but Snoop Dogg's son Cordell Broadus is shaping up to be one of the top WR's in the nation, with offers from the likes of USC and LSU. Michigan visited his school last month, but probably doesn't have a horse in this race. Looks like the 213 wil live on.
because I love my life and I always will, whatever people say to me, I take it in stride I'm thinkin ne*%o please...
If you really dont know me then you best back up, I suggest strongly
"Regulators, we regulate any stealing of his property, and we damn good too."
nothing on the menu worth putting a gun to your head.
And it's not close.
great decision you made...chipolte chicken and brocc and chesse pick 2??
WE TALKED ABOUT SUBS ON A RECRUITING THREAD IT WAS CRAZY
...and I'm completely baffled by it.
Is all the sub sandwich talk some kind of code to confuse the NSA or something? I definitely feel like I'm out of the loop. But if I must, forget the chain outfits and stay local. Brookline Spa until I die!
Brian just let you sandwich freaks have it on Twitter.
Mike Farrell says M leads for Da'Shawn Hand, so it must be time for a 100-comment thread about sandwich chains. http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/rivals-mike-says-today-i-think-michigan-would-be-choice-dashawn-hand …
Better than the off topic banter on the Fournette thread, at least. Talking about Top 10 recruits who want to come to Michigan has gotten kind of old. It's soooo early 2013. I want to talk about cold cuts now.
that's kinda why I like mgoblog. never know what's gonna happen .
But not to Jimmy Johns.
Y'all don't know nothing 'bout D'Angelos.
brown sugar on everything.
Well I just heard some news from a reliable source that makes me very excited! A top three not consistenting of VT....Michigan, Bama, Florida
Help me out, because I'm not a very smart man. Is this a joke I don't get, or news that would excite me way more than it should?
No joke but probably shouldn't have said anything as of yet.
Dammit, I was hoping you read that somewhere. Instead you're just a jerk-off who gets his kicks pretending he's an insider on message boards.
Well when this information becomes public, you can appoligze to me later
I don't think that's how "information" is spelled. The rest of your post looks good.
If it isn't from a verified source, then it didn't happen. Spouting something that you "heard" from someone the rest of us don't have access to then your speculation is worthless to us. Prove it now or we chalk it up to a lucky guess on your part later.
That would be one hell of a lucky guess if that were indeed the case
you have a one in three chance. Not even the house gets those sorts of odds.
I saw a Rival's paywalled interview w/ Farrell and Hand at the Five Star Challenge, where Hand suggests that his top 2 is no longer VT and UM, yet he still has a top 2... *COMMENCE BASELESS CONJECTURE*
For those of you w/ a Rival's account. $[Link]$
UofM Kinesiology and UofM Engineering.
How is saying that VT is out and Bama, Michigan, and Florida are the schools He's focusing on a 1 in 3 chance?
I heard that Hand is really a girl, whose success in college will inspire a new series of Disney Channel original movies that will be a sort of hybrid of High School Musical and NBC's Hang Time.
My source: The future.
I have a feeling that I might owe you an apology pretty soon. If so, damn, I'm sorry to have lumped you in with the rest of the asshats we get around here pretending to be insiders.
I'm afraid I just prematurely shot my wad. You're blowing my mind, Allin4Blue.
Well I am a flamer...
....that trading VT for Bama and Florida is something to get excited about.
I was kind of looking at this as well. We went to a 50% or greater chance when it was Va. Tech and us to now 33% or who knows what with three teams. Although the Rivals thoughts are good I guess.
He had a top 5 that included VT and SC (I think). So IF this information is correct, we went from being one of five to being one of three.
Besides, not all teams in a "Top ____" are inherently equal. Michigan and VT were universally regarded as the top two, and dropping one of one's two is automatically good news for the other member of the top two.
I see. I just don't like seeing those damn SEC teams being mentioned.
How's the food at Bama and Florida? Hand seems to mention food as a factor in every interview!
Dreamland (Tuscaloosa) is the bomb-diggity if you like ribs.
You're a smart guy, BiSB, and this is an honest question. On what grounds are you even entertaining the possibility that this is true?
It's a lawyer thing, where you answer a question presuming a premise that you don't really agree with.
I assume that VT and Michigan are still his top 2. I was mostly pointing out that Florida and Alabama are a bigger threat than VT just because they are normally the biggest competition for Generic Five-Star Recruit. Getting VT out of the picture would be better news for Michigan than for anyone.
Having VT out of the race is of course good news.... no reasonable fan will argue that. However, a two way race with VT is a much better scenario than a three way race with Florida and Alabama.... no reasonable person should argue that either.
A long way to February..... and his top teams will likely continue to fluctuate..... but I much prefered the previous scenario.
In addition, he already visited Bama and maintained that top two previously. Thus he prefers Michigan to Bama having visited both. I don't think he has visited UF yet.
Think of it this way. Michigan was 50/50 before. Michigan's standing hasn't changed so now you have two teams splitting the other 50% and it's 50/25/25.
There's just something about his personality.
I hear he lacks competitive intensitiy and is a poor fit for any program that cares about working hard, the right way.
I heard he cares too much about grades. And as we all know, Ohio State doesn't like that in their players.
Excellent non-use of /s. Maybe we're finally turning a corner.
with you but you only gave the post about 30 minutes. In another 30 we would have had some good replies.
but I think you meant pre-madonna. You probably got negged for your spelling mistake.
Just in case someone reads this and thinks I'm wrong....don't be a Moran!
Sometimes I think these guys just predict new "leaders" to get more page hits and twitter followers from different fanbases. What does a "couple very good sources" mean? What more do we need that isn't coming out of Hand's own mouth?
But Farrell has a DECENT track record, and has been doing this long enough that you know he's not a complete crackpot. If you'll recall, he was driving the "EJ Levenberry to FSU" train when everyone else had him favoring Michigan.
That said... yeah. We'll see.
Farrell is a self-righteous, douchey egomaniac, but he's also one of the best. I shudder to think of the ways he gets his information, but when he does, it's normally right.
So true. I held out for like a year following him on Twitter just because of the way he is. I finally gave and actually enjoy his thoughts/predictions. You can be right and a Dbag.
but unless Hand is announcing today I'm not going to get super excited over these tweets.
News from one of the best recruiting gurus that the #1 player in the country is leaning Michigan over his backyard school is definitely not exciting news.
Sam Webb has been saying the same thing about Hand for at least a week or more, and Hand's own comments—if you want to read between the lines—have also hinted that Michigan is in a very good spot.
If Hand had told Farrell directly that Michigan was his favorite, that would be newsworthy. All Farrell did was give his own opinion, which means it's just another data point in what looks like a good trend. Since we don't know the decision date, that's all it is.
I hate more (non)news, confirming earlier reports that the #1 player is leaning towards Michigan.
Or rivals is just baiting both fan bases.
If they are, so is 247. Of the last 15 crystal balls, 9 of them have Hand going to Michigan, and 6 have him going to VT. Seems there has been a change of opinion lately. VT has 3/4 of the crystal balls going their way still, but Michigan seems to be making the charge. Too bad we're still on the front stretch and not rouding the final turn...
comment deleted... placed in wrong spot.
Can you give me a hint? What does the "s" stand for? That's where I lose it. Can you at least tell me what part of speech it is?
Thank you. That would have bothered me otherwise.
It's not an "S"...on my world, it means "hope."
Well, here, it's an "S"....
I just spent too much time figuring those out. You guys are mean.
I am surprisingly proud that I figured this out.
Recruiting really getting rough if there putting guns to analyst heads.
Welcome to the board. People here seem to really like grammar.
but more accurately we appreciate good grammar.
And hammer the bad.
In perusing rankings on Rivals anyway, one of the things that makes the potential to get Hand particularly intriguing is that it would add to some incredible defensive recruiting. In the last two full cycles, if I counted right, there have been 24 recruits on defense, 15 of which have been 4-star recruits or better. The addition of Hand to the 2014 class - if it happened - would make for 4 out of 6 on defense in that class. Even as it is, I feel pretty good about the level of talent being built on defense, but Hand would make it that much more impressive.
We shall see said the blind man to the deaf boy.
@bzillmer was my best friend in like 5th thru 7th grade. Funny to see him posted on here.
Maybe yesterday a Hokies fan had the gun. Today there's a Michigan fan. Maybe by the end of the week a Cocks(South Carolina for those not in the SE) fan will have the gun.
I have followed this blog long enough to know Farrell usually is in-tune. I also know that many posters on here have a disdain for him, and my comment was just a lighthearted jab at him. I am very optimistic about our chances with Hand.
P.S. If its 100% then it's not a chance. That's a certainty.
I mean...I know his name is "Mr. Rager" but I didn't see anything in his reply to you that gave me the impression he was anything but calm. What was there in it to make you think he was otherwise?
Rivals Mike or Magnus?
Didn't some poll come out saying we have mediocre recruiters for the conference? Mike has to be wrong.
there's a joke in there somewhere.
None in the Hand is not yet worth Ju(wan) in the Bushell-Beatty
Hand Peppers Furbush
Virginia doesn't have a Furbush and we can get Hand from her.
Yep, you nailed it.
Furbush is a bit underweight, but Hand needs to maintain weight while building strength. If they both go to KFC, Hand should order one whole chicken and Furbush two, but Hand eats first, because better to have a bird in Hand than two in Furbush.
I'm still not convinced VT is out of it. For all the times he's been there, he hasn't been on a lengthy trip with his family in tow. Until that happens, and he comes out of it with Michigan still "presumably" on top (or even tied with VT), I think VT holds the edge. Everything I've heard outside of M-centric guys or Farrell points in this direction.
Had you (and what has actually transpired) stopped at "Everything I've heard outside of M-centric guys points in this direction" I would agree with you, but Farrell is most definitely not a M-centric analyst by any stretch. Basically you just ignore what M-centric people are saying because we know they have a slanted view, but once you ignore that and are still left with a gyu who has shown in the past to have a pretty good track record for knowing such things, you still have pretty good reason to get excited. It's early, but this is good news.
No doubt it is good news, but I'm talking about the "insiders" affiliated with other programs. Farrell is good at what he does, but he's still just one data point. I think there's a reason why his 24/7 predictions are still 3-to-1 in favor of VT, and the Michigan guesses are 3 OSU guys, 2 UM guys, 1 Minnesota, and 5 national guys. The VT guesses span national guys and guys from UM, Alabama, OSU, South Carolina, North Carolina, FSU, Virginia, Duke, and Georgia. 3-to-1 with no contributions from any of the VT-affiliated 24/7 people leads me to believe it's still a longshot.
Maybe, but do you really think guys from Minnesota, Duke, etc. have any of their own information about Hand? They're just copying the guys who seem legitimately in the know. I'd take something that Farrell says as 100x more informative than most of those 24/7 predictions combined.
I guess things like this happens when the athletic department pulls an Isaiah Thomas Freeze Out™ of your newspaper's beat writer.
...not another In-and-Out Burger v. Five Guys debate.
Sadly, I have never made it to an In-and-out, but Five Guys is awesome. However, I'll always be a Blimpy Burger guy, even if they no longer have a building.
Your example is terrible. Chick fil A is always the best fast food chain in its locale. I don't think I've ever had a complaint about their service or cleanliness, and I've visited many. The only complaint can be the fact that they are closed on Sundays.
I was actually just in the process of editing my post to say that I do agree with your original premise that many fast food restaurants, especially Subway and Quizno's, have a wide variance by location. But I will stand by my claim that Chick Fil A is not one of them. I'm sorry if I'm passionate about Chick Fil A. Actually I will never be sorry for loving Chick Fil A.
Perhaps you should take your own advice.
PUBLIX SUBS TRUMP ALL!!!!!!!1
....can a positive note about Da'shawn Hand turn into a 3 page long sub debate. We talked subs, it was crazy. Wow.
Per ESPN's Derek Tyson's Twitter, Hand probably isn't going to make his Florida visit.. the more visits he doesn't make, the better it is and the quicker a decision may come.
I think you're in the wrong thread.
You know Da'Shawn can't stand Subway
I'm going to safely assume that you don't go there for the pizza (their shakes are pretty good).
I used to like their subs, but that was a long time ago. So long, they'd put a raw egg in your shake, which was useful on the way to the library, some early Sunday afternoons.
How're they now?
Wait, how is that useful?
Is that supposed to be a hangover cure?
Basically I think you are saying that it was so long ago, that people actually believed that worked to cure hangovers. And also they were not yet aware of the public health threat they were imposing by serving raw eggs.
Sorry I can't answer your question.
This thread puts the "we had subs it was crazy" meme into a whole new light.
Any reason the last four crystal ball predictions have Hand going to Alabama?
maybe 10-20 with actually information/commenting on Da'Shawn Hand. About 150 on subs. We've jumped the shark, MGoBlog
Your best post ever. Please let it come true.
