Rivals MBB Recruit Update: GR III and Mitch McGary
http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1240903
Good rivals update on how their AAU squad took home the championship from their most recent tournament.
Word is that while landing McGary might be unlikely, it is becoming much less unlikely according to a Rivals mod. Would be interesting to see if his interest in Michigan continues to rise, and him and GR III decide to play together at Michigan.
Would be the biggest recruit we have landed in either football or basketball since... ? I can't even remember.
Since Drew Henson.
Bigger is not always better.
Since Shane Morris.
....would be sweet, but I like reading this about GRIII:
Thanks to a strong summer, the Michigan commitment has ascended all the way up to No. 46 nationally. The truth is that he may not be ranked high enough. A sharp-shooting wing who has all of the sudden developed explosive athleticism, Robinson was efficient and productive. He shoots with range, finishes from the sky on the break and is really filling out his frame.
Tim Hardaway Junior Junior?
This doesn't surprise me. It's something I've thought for awhile now.
GR3 actually goes to the high school in the town where I grew up. My brother, who is a few years older then GR3, has played against him and knows him from the AAU circuit. GR3 is the real deal, and I guarantee he's better than many of the kids ranked in front of him.
Since Daniel Horton
Well:
1) I said football or basketball
2) Horton was a 4 star. He was our highest rated basketball recruit in the last 9-10 years (GR III might / should end up higher). McGary is a 5 star. #5 overall nationally to Rivals. much, much more highly regarded out of HS than Horton.
You sure? I thought Horton was a 5 star. Not #5 overall, but I thought he was a top 5 PG.
Horton was a 4* to rivals, 5* to scout.
Ryan Mallet was rated number 4 overall to rivals in 2007.
I think Kalis and McGary are bigger than Mallett. Kalis is not only a 5-Star, but also a buckeye fan and commit turned Wolverine, which is a big loss for Ohio St. McGary has a chance to take us from tourney threat to big ten title contender.
Well comparing the ratings, Mallet has been the best recruit numbers wise. That's how I interpreted the questions at least. I agree though that getting Kalis is a huge coupe
You mean like an El Dorado or a Riviera?
Coup not coupe ha
One issue with McGary is that he has said he'd like to make his decision in the fall. Will Michigan's last 2012 scholarship still be available then? Sherron Dorsey-Walker has said he'll be deciding in August, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he picks Michigan.
No knock on Sherron, but if Beilein thinks we have a legitimate shot, I hope he backs off him to wait for Mitch McGary. We haven't had a dominant big man in years.
Dorsey-Walker is a fringe top-100 player who is a great shooter, is from the PSL, and has a GPA of 3.9. As Sam Webb has said, he's about as close to the ideal Beilein recruit as there is. I cannot imagine Beilein backing off him if he's ready to commit in August.
McGary, as far as I know, hasn't even made any official visits yet but still plans to do so. There's no guarantee that Michigan will even get one of those visits.
(FTR: it wasn't me who negged you.)
McGary had an unofficial so we did get a visit already.
Please reread my post--I was talking about official visits.
