Rivals free live chat

Submitted by Litt1e Rhino on

Rivals is having a pretty good live chat and there are a lot of midwest questions on there right now. I suggest tuning in.

Here are the points I found interesting as a Michigan fan.

Im sorry if this is hard to follow, I normally leave it to others on the board to do things like this but I thought i would contribute for once and do my good deed for the day.

Josh Helmholdt:

Richardson's game is very similar to former Cass Tech and current Oregon cornerback Dior Mathis. He has the same build and the same strengths in his game as Dior. He is more athletic than Hollowell and appears to be more level-headed than Cissoko.

Mike Farrell:

geoff -- I think he's a smidge longer than Cissoko and Mathis as well

(Also talking about Richardson)

Comment From Weims

Do you feel that alot of the Ohio kids will wait until after the season to make a commitment? I still feel that Kalis will go to OSU after the sanctions are handed down and a coach in place. Same with SeVon Pittman

Mike Farrell:
Weims -- I think guys like Washington, Stanford and Odenigbo will take their time and wait. I disagree on Kalis, I think he's going to Michigan, and I think Pittman sticks with MSU

Comment From geoff
with those sanctions it would appear that Brionte Dunn will open up his recruitment... Does it become a PSU UM race?

Mike Farrell:

geoff -- I think Dunn sticks with OSU in the end, just my hunch.

josh- You see any Michigan commits changing their minds if we have a sub-par season?

Josh Helmholdt:
With 18 early commitments, there is always the chance of decommitments. How Michigan fares this season, though, is not what I would worry about most. I'm not sure the expectations are too high for Hoke from recruits for the 2011 season. They know he inherited a roster full of players meant for a different system.

Comment From Nick

What is your guys' favorite part about Midwest recruiting? Is it watching a certain position? Or what about the Midwest sets itself apart from the rest of the country?

Mike Farrell:
Nick -- Midwestern prospects are hard workers, blue collar guys and very humble and well spoken, that's my favorite part about dealing with them. They don't care about rankings or the attention, they just want to play football.

Comment From John

Feelings on Vince Valentine's future?

Mike Farrell:
John -- I think Valentine could end up at Nebraska.

Comment From JohnfromDenver

is Jarrod Wilson a little underrated by Rivals? I watched his film and he looks very impressive. Ideal size for a high school FS, great quickness, good speed, good tackler, but most importantly he's a ball-hawk. He had what, 12 INT's last year? 5 of which he returned for TD's. He also had 4 fumble recoveries, 1 of which he returned 94 yards for a TD. Why isn't he in the Top 250?

Mike Farrell:

JohnfromDenver -- He's a four star and maybe he is a bit underrated right now but we've seen him a few times, have watched all his film and based on what we have now he's where he should be. if he's underrated, he will prove it his junior year and we will see many more times before our final ranking.

Comment From geoff

Who is Michigan's most underrated prospect? Maybe Braden or Standifer

Josh Helmholdt:

Geoff - I think Michigan fans are undervaluing Matt Godin. With Ryan Van Bergen set to graduate after this season, there's a chance Godin could end up a starter as a true freshman.

Where do you see Jarod Wilson going today?

Mike Farrell:
Guest -- Our best guess has been Michigan until we hear something else. He announces in a couple hours so we'll see.

Jordan Diamond? He has mentioned southern schools but does Iowa's momentum in Chicago help land him??
1:18
Josh Helmholdt:
The longer Diamond takes his recruitment out, the better chances Iowa has in my opinion. Michigan has been his long-stated leader, but they are filling up on scholarships on the o-line quickly and I just do not get the feel Diamond heads south

Comment From Dan
Does Devin Fuller end up in the Big Ten or maybe stay in the big east?
1:19
Mike Farrell:
Dan -- I think Fuller ends up possibly in the Big Ten or ACC, not sure about Big East unless it's TCU which is still hard for me to consider Big East. He wants an offense that will fit him as a QB.

Who will have the top classes in the Big Ten this year? Where will Iowa fit in there.
1:23
Mike Farrell:
Tom -- I think it will be Michigan, OSU and PSU at top then Nebraska next followed by Iowa and MSU. Just a guess

Comment From Darius
can michigan have a top 5 class?
1:26
Mike Farrell:
Darius -- top 5 is possibly, top 10 more likely if all turns out well.

Comment From NdFan
predictions, who signs the best class in the mid west this year? Michigan, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Ohio State?
1:27
Mike Farrell:
NdFan -- Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Nebraska and Wisconsin out of that group
1:28
Mike Farrell:
and I forgot to mention Wisco before when I was doing Big Ten breakdown -- Michigan, OSU, PSU, Nebraska, Wisco, Iowa, MSU -- it is going to be a sick recruiting year in the Big Ten

"Geoff - I think Michigan fans are undervaluing Matt Godin. With Ryan Van Bergen set to graduate after this season, there's a chance Godin could end up a starter as a true freshman."

Right, because replacing one token, white, 3-star, in-state defensive tackle with another just makes sense.

I sure hope we recruit another black QB with dreadlocks from Florida soon. Otherwise, we'll have no one to replace Denard when he leaves.

Also - he said "I think Michigan fans are going to get some really good news very soon and it could be a big weekend" which is promising

Another funny thing, though, is he said that we really have to target a QB in 2013. Uhh, thanks we did...
