rivals counting down rankings from 120: #47 MSU, no M yet

Rivals is unveiling their 2010 college football rankings, counting down backwards from 120. M hasn't been announced yet, and the Sparties are #47. 2010 Big Ten teams ranked so far:
- #47 MSU
- #57 Northwestern
- #62 Purdue
- #76 Minnesota
- #84 Illinois
- #97 Indiana
So, according to rivals, M will be at worst 5th place in the Big Ten (4-4) and make a bowl game.
...Don. I'm working on tempering my usual super optimism. So, my pessism is probably faux pessimism to mask my true nature.
Confused? So am I.
which has me thinking that 5-7 is just as likely as 7-5. If we do anything better than the latter, I'll be a happy man, esp. if that includes a victory over OSU, as unlikely as it seems to me right now.
...with your super pessimism and you get super reasonable. Since I'm thinking that 9-3 is just as likely as 7-5 (I just can't see another Big Ten collapse), I guess a good prediction may be 8-4 and an Outback or Gator Bowl berth against Ryan Mallett's Razorbacks or Les Miles' Bayou Bengals.
I don't know if our bowl tie-ins would even make it possible, but I'd love to see us play Stanford in a bowl game and beat Jimmy's ass.
I'll make a bold prediction right now and say that by the end of the 2010 season Les Miles will be on an official ESPN®-approved Hot Seat.
...for Miles. We're not playing Stanford, unless it's in the Rose Bowl or the BCS Championship Game.
- Rose Bowl Game: Pasadena, California (Big Ten champion against Pac-10 champion)
- Capital One Bowl: Orlando, Florida (Big Ten #2 pick against SEC #2 pick)
- Outback Bowl: Tampa, Florida (Big Ten #3 pick against SEC #3/4 pick)
- Gator Bowl: Jacksonville, Florida (Big Ten #4/5 pick against SEC pick)
- Insight Bowl: Tempe, Arizona (Big Ten #4/5 pick against Big 12 pick)
- Texas Bowl: Houston, Texas (Big Ten #6 pick against Big 12 #6 pick)
- Dallas Football Classic: Dallas, Texas (Big Ten #7 pick against Conference USA or #8 Big 12)
- Little Caesars Pizza Bowl Detroit, Michigan (Big Ten #8 pick against MAC champion)
The voters are dumb shits, they won't remember anything of the sort. They are much more likely to respond to the inevitable hype of Michigan starting out 5-0. Getting to MSU undefeated will inlcude a victory over Indiana as well, so if we are 5-0 on October 2 we will be ranked.

I read in the MSU preview was that they are replacing three starters on their offensive line. This is going to put them in a world of hurt and Cousins should be under a lot of pressure when they can't run the ball. Also, unless they can improve their cornerback ans safety play quickly, teams will pass all over them just like they did last year.

Umm, yeah. This sounds familiar.
in Big Ten wins in the last four years. Spartina was 6th. I can't wait for the season to start and for things to get back on track.
Not a fan of the childish "insult" name variations.
As if these rankings have ANY weight whatsoever, I feel like a kid on Christmas every time I refresh the rivals page and don't see "Michigan"!
47. MSU
46. Texas Tech
45. University of South Florida
44....
I agree, I was just going ot post this. I know that preseason rankings don't mean dick, for the most part, but Rivals preseason rankings have always been better than most, if not all. It's not just some guy ranking his top 25 or 50 or 120 just to put something down. Rivals goes indepth into every team, taking a look at the whole picture to make these rankings.
Getting a high Rivals ranking doesn't guarantee a thing, but I'd rather be high on this one than most others. We'll be in the low-40's at worst, and that's not too bad.
FYI, still no UM. TAMU came in at #43 today.
FYI, we are still not on the ranking. Air Force came in at #42 today, so it's likely we're in the top 40. That would predict we win 8 games, FWIW.
