Surely going 10-2 in the last 12 is great to see and it's nice that they are 'winning ugly' instead of 'losing pretty' like Michigan teams so often have done

but lingering in the back of my mind is the fairly light schedule that got us to that 10-2 and the wins against ranked teams were all a bit ugly. Tech outshot us like mad and giving up 8 goals in a weekend against Minnesota isn't sustainable.

I think the weakness of the Big Ten will get us into the tourney, but this team's glaring weakness is still the defense

Just like it's rash to declare the season a loss in November, calling this recent run a "resurgence" is only as useful as what comes next. We've seen this before. A late January-early February push is something I'd actually get excited about. Until then, it's still wait-and-see mode.

Offense seems sustainable.  Defense probably costs us a game or two it shouldn't and with our schedule it's going to be hard to make up RPI/Pairwise ground.  Need like, at least a split in Mariucci and maybe at most 2 losses otherwise.

but a season is more than a weekend. We still have more talent than all but 2-3 other college hockey teams, yet are 12-7 and on the outside looking in. We've been underperforming for several years. It looks like this team is coming around, but I've watched enough Michigan Hockey to know not to get my hopes up yet

Early departures? You mean Jacob Trouba and.....? The fact is either recruiting or development (or both) are hurting the blueline. Not departures. Those of us with knowledge of the college game know Michigan is missing Trouba who was a lock to be here two years or less and maybe Connor Carrick.

This team has been fairly loaded on offense the last few seasons but struggled mightily to even score 3 GPG last year. This is likely a general decline we're seeing out of Red as he nears the end of his career. He's had an incredible run, but it just doesn't look like he's got the same knack for building teams that he used to have

WD admitted he was wrong about Red. So are you.

Those of us with knowledge about the college game know MI has the #1 goals forwarded in the country at 3.834. Yet I guess Red is in general decline. Michigan was in the frozen four a few seasons ago. 98% of programs would kill for Michigan's recent run. People like you that have zero patience piss me off.

I guess he doesn't have the same knack for building teams. I will wait for you to eat crow.

You keep saying 'knowledge of the college game' but I feel like you haven't been watching Michigan hockey much in the past few years -  if at all.

In 3 of the last 4 seasons, Michigan has not been good enough in the regular season to make the tournament. It took a miracle CCHA tournament run to make it in 2010, then there was a the title game year, then 2 straight whiffs and we're staring down the barrel of a third.

I've been watching enormously talented Michigan hockey teams flounder against inferior competition for 4 of the last 5 years - watching most every game during it. So yes, if you cannot see that Red is in decline (or that Pearson really was that critical to his success) then I'd wonder if you actually watch Michigan Hockey at all

I'll save at you from section 13 row 6. Or do you want me to show you my victors points with almost a decade of a being a season ticket holder. I can also call the Abdelkader family for you as well. I only grew up with Justin. But yeah, I know nothing about college hockey as I have been around it for most of my life. Let's keep up the dick measuring contest.

Haters like you are a dime a dozen.

You think that being a season ticket holder and your Dekers Club membership makes you a hockey expert, when in fact you have no more knowledge of the game or insights into the program than the rest of the board.

Judging by your same boring responses from last year, I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're Professor X.

Red has lost a step, it's been a major talking point from people with actual knowledge of the program for a few years now. Their gameplans are always the same, special teams stink and the blueline has been a major issue for 3 years.

When Red was younger, he did not pull punches with his players. Now things come out of Yost about Red being timid when it comes to raising his voice with players, and we see guys come in and do whatever they want and crap on the program.

It's in front of your face. You just don't want to see it.

but does anyone know the correct spelling of our new DFO Colonel Jim Min[n]ick? I've seen it spelled both ways all over the internet and the directory search that we all know and love has a James / Jim Minick as well as a James / Jim Minnick. I'm working on a story so if anyone could point me in the direction of something official about him it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

We travelled from DC to watch the games this weekend. We went to the hockey game Friday night, BBALL Saturday and the afternoon hockey game. Nice to see us pull off the trifecta! My Friends and Son cannot stop talking about how great the students were at the BBALL game and especially the hockey game Saturday. I think they were the best we have seen them in some time! Giving the goalie (Wilcox) hell all afternoon was hilarious. Great job students, you made our day!
