Rivals article on Clinton-Dix (with a little bit of Demetrius Hart)

Submitted by BlueintheBlood on
I got a really positive vibe from the recent article about Clinton-Dix from rivals (http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1051540 behind a paywal I believe). Here is one reason: "Hopefully me and DHart go to school together. We're still looking at it and trying to graduate early, so depending on how it works out it might be at Michigan," Clinton-Dix said. "We've got strong takes on Michigan. They were the first team to put me on the scene." And some more good news: Michigan assistant coach Rod Smith is heading up Clinton-Dix recruitment for the Wolverines. Clinton-Dix has also spoken to head coach Rich Rodriguez on several occasions, but Michigan's most influential recruiter may be former Dr. Phillips wide receiver Ricardo Miller. Come on Miller, work that magic! Rivals list's Hasean Clinton-Dix as an athlete, but he played mostly as a safety and was often used closer to the line of scrimmage as an additional linebacker. EDIT: Projected as a 4-5 star range by Rivals (although likely needs some stellar combine performances to reach that 5th star). Damn I really want a solid Dr. Phillips pipeline... they consistently dish out quality talent.

Clinton-Dix would be a huge pickup for the defense. If we were able to get him and Kris Frost, I would feel very good about the chances of having a dominant defense in the future. Hart was tailor made for RR's offense. The thought of him and DG in the backfield is almost too good to be true.

I don't think Clinton-Dix will be a 5-star, but I do think he'll be a solid 4-star. There's something to be said for pipelines (like Pahokee and Cass Tech), but package deals seem to fall through more often than not. These two have to decide if Michigan is the right place for each one of them. We don't have to look too far into the past to see failed package deals...

Where as package deals are often too good to be true (generally one star and a average guy) I was more excited by the overall interest professed by more than one Dr. Phillips player towards Michigan. I was also under the impression that it is pure "hope" from Clinton-Dix and Hart that they attend the same school (as any two friends would say), but by no means a package deal. It's been said time and time again that Miller is one of our best recruiters, and to create a consistent commit cycle from that high school to Michigan would be fantastic from a recruiting standpoint.

It's because of guys like these that I wish Ricardo would have stayed at Dr. Phillips for his senior year. 6 more months with these two might have been worth it. Also, I don't think Clinton-Dix will be a safety, he's 6'3" and if he's really 210 as a junior, he'll be 225-230 by the fall of his freshman year (considering he wants to enroll early). I'd like to see him at the WILL.

That's good news. He sounds like a Josh Furman type of player, but with a little more defensive experience. My only issue with him staying at safety is that we have a lot of young guys slotted for the bigger FS spot, and if he were a safety I'm sure that's where he'd be. We haven't brought in a whole lot of linebackers lately though. Either way, I just want him in AA.
