Rivals 250 released for 2014
Rivals released its initial Rivals 250 for the class of 2014. Michael Ferns is a 4-star.
Here's a list of Michigan offerees on the list:

Other than Ferns Michigan probably gets:
Brian Mone
Malik McDowell
Damon Webb
Mason Cole
Parrker Westphal
Alex Bars, Blake's brother, is also on the list, and Michigan's up there for Peppers, Hand, etc. M will probably get some Ohio guys on the list they're still evaluating too.

Wow, some rare message board recruiting insight from Brian. I hope we can get all the guys you listed, although I'm not sure on Mason Cole.
Yeah, there are several guys on there from the midwest that I think Michigan can pull if they want. It's not a great class in the midwest, but if Michigan can pull in the cream of the crop from the region, then we'll be in pretty good shape.

Do you think distance will be a factor for Cole in the end?
November 12th, 2012 at 1:50 PM ^
Yep. I don't have any inside info there, and I think he genuinely likes Michigan. It just feels like a recruitment that will eventually taper off into him committing elsewhere. There's a chance, though.

you're literally telling me there's a chance...

"To Mitch"

Only 3 each from Michigan (one of whom is a Sparty commit) and Ohio (one of whom is already in the fold). So let's hope we at least secure at least a couple more from this smallish group. Webb and McDowell are considered strong possibilities, no?
November 12th, 2012 at 1:46 PM ^
Yeah, Webb and McDowell are both fairly likely to end up at Michigan.

Where is all of this McDowell positivity coming from? As much as I follow, it seems as if he is only fairly interested in Michigan. It actually seems like he is more interested in ND and maybe even MSU.

The general feeling is that Michigan is and has been his leader. I'm not saying it's a foregone conclusion, but it's pretty likely. And I'm not generally a homer when it comes to Michigan recruiting. I try to call it like it is, although I'm not infallible.

I thought I was wrong, once, but it turned out I was mistaken.
November 13th, 2012 at 10:08 AM ^
requested that he slow his recruitment down and be sure. He wanted to commit at one point.
November 12th, 2012 at 2:23 PM ^
I counted 5 from Michigan but two (Deon Drake/Drake Harris) are MSU commits and one is a Wisconsin commit.
November 12th, 2012 at 3:00 PM ^
I believe he was talking about the guys Michigan has offered, not the statewide prospects.
November 12th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
were not included in Rivals 250 and most of them are from the midwest. We've got some great talent evaluators.
November 12th, 2012 at 2:13 PM ^
Weird that most of the kids from Michigan are already "commited" elsewhere... I have to assume that is from offers coming in a little later than the recruit would have liked. I am specifically talking about the LB from Cass and the Pro Style QB who is verballed to Wiscy.
November 12th, 2012 at 2:20 PM ^
about Drake. The writing was on the wall. Michigan is only taking 2-3 LBs and is going to be extremely picky. In Chance Stewart's case, I think it was less about not getting a Michigan offer yet and more about him really feeling at home at Wisconsin.

From what i heard on an MSU site, was that both MSU and Michigan coaches cooled on Chance because of character/disciplinary issues.

MSU "cools" on people because of character/disciplinary issues???
That means my world has ceased to exist... head done splode and shits.

The other citizens of Sturgis had better beware. They might be the victims of an attempt to earn an MSU scholarship...

Did Denzel Ward ever release his highlight tape? Wondering what the pundits would have to say about him.
November 12th, 2012 at 5:13 PM ^
No, I don't think he's released any film yet.

Is Ferns the number 1 recruit in Ohio?
November 12th, 2012 at 3:43 PM ^
Probably not. Dante Booker seems to be the #1 guy, and I think Marshon Lattimore and Jimmy Byrne have a shot to be #1, too.
November 12th, 2012 at 4:17 PM ^
I never saw your response before I hit send. Nearly identical thinking, though.
November 12th, 2012 at 3:47 PM ^
it IS a down year for Ohio, though. I would guess the #1 player is Booker. But Ferns is probably top 3. The good news (from a ranking standpoint) is that his team is still playing the playoffs and he'll have plenty of film out there.

Booker recently named Ohio his leader. Ohio has also had some sucess getting top recruits from St. Vincent St. Mary is the past couple years.
I think we have a better shot with Lattimore. It is said that Hoke has a good relationship with Ginn Sr.

I always see references to playing smaller guys in the slot here, but if you've been paying attention to Hoke/Borges for the past two seasons, they play bigger guys (Hemingway, Jackson, etc.) in the slot.
Ohio guys with Ohio State offers generally go to Ohio State. So no, I'm not bullish on Michigan landing any of those guys.
