A bit of shameless self-promotion on my part here. Enjoy

Ben from Chicago: The two houses from the war of the Roses. Division A: York. Division B: Lancaster. The title game would be called the War of the Roses: winner gets a chance to go to the Rose Bowl.
This one is awesome.

Want.

I'm afraid this may go over the head of some of the more, should we say, lower universities in the Big Ten; IE MSU.

Nice - love it.

The only thing that could make this better is if the Pac10 did something related to roses as well. Something like Red and White divisions and Battle for the Roses. We'd have War of the Roses. The winners would play in the Tournament of Roses.

I'm partial to this one:
Bill J. from Philadelphia: Where Is Wisconsin? Division, and the Why Is Wisconsin Here? Division. Needs no Explanation.

We wouldn't have to explain it. How many times are the announcers going to talk about it in the 49 Big10 games?
I have never heard Beta meaning big and Delta meaning 10. I couldn't find anything for it on google either. Is that real or is he just making something up?

Yeah, I think he either made that up or is mistaken.

Is it just me, or would it be interesting, regardless of division names, for the division championship trophies to be named after Bo and Woody (a la Halas and Hunt for the NFC and AFC championship trophies)?

I remain partial to the U. Chicago theme:
Nick from Chicago: Amos Alonzo Stagg ("The Stagg Division") -- Named for the legendary coach at the University of Chicago. John "Jay" Berwanger ("The Berwanger Division") -- Named for the legendary University of Chicago player. He won the first Heisman trophy and was the first player selected in the inaugural NFL draft. As the University of Chicago no longer participates in the conference athletically, but continues to maintain an academic relationship with the Big Ten, I think this is a nice nod to that school and its place in the conference's history.

I support this and the War of the Roses ideas.
November 5th, 2010 at 1:33 PM ^
So both divisions should be named after a school that is no longer in the conference?
November 5th, 2010 at 1:49 PM ^
Well, when they say they want something related to the Big10, but not linked to any one Big10 school or geography, then what is left?
November 5th, 2010 at 7:26 PM ^
Not much, which is why those shouldn't be the criteria.
Just call them East and West, which is what they obviously are.
November 5th, 2010 at 11:18 AM ^
Here's a good one- "smash and dash". For the power and speed of the conference.
November 5th, 2010 at 11:31 AM ^
I am loving the War of the Roses idea. All the way...
November 5th, 2010 at 11:42 AM ^
The War of the Roses names are good, but we have the Civil War theme, with local references for the names! I will repeat my idea from an earlier thread--
Grant Division, Sherman Division.
Both Grant (Illinois) and Sherman (Ohio) are from the Big Ten footprint.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:11 PM ^
I actually like this one better than the nods to U of C. They left over 60 years ago, right? I'm down with Grant and Sherman, or the war of the roses idea, but I think the championship game should then be called the war "for" the roses.

I really hope Delany and co go with Lancaster/York/War for the Roses theme. We don't have to call the Big Ten championship game the McDonald's Happy Meal Big Ten Championship Game, right? Are we allowed to call it the War for the Roses (presented by McDonald's Happy Meal)?

Div I: Three Yards
Div II: Cloud of Dust
November 5th, 2010 at 1:44 PM ^
to the highest bidder. This is all about adding a 13th game for the big tv dollars, right? Let capitalism prevail.
Then we can tune in to "You're looking (live!) at The Big Ten Championship game featuring the University of Michigan, of the Ford Motor Division, versus Ohio State, of the Kleenex Division ..."
November 5th, 2010 at 2:15 PM ^
Rust Division
Clogged Artery Division
November 5th, 2010 at 2:35 PM ^
How about the Ran Division and the Over Division considering any NC contenders winning the Big10 will flat out be trucked in the NC Game.
November 5th, 2010 at 7:30 PM ^
A Notre Dame fan mocking other schools for bowl losses? That's rich.
November 5th, 2010 at 8:37 PM ^
Not many bowl losses, because we don't go to bowls.

I was inspired by the PSU fan in the 2005 video kissing his biceps so naming my own only made sense after I give each a kiss as well.
