to play football, not to play trumpet
May Peace be with you and your loved ones Vada.
Very, very sad.
And I wish the best to his family in this hard time.
Thoughts and prayers.
Incredibly sad news. My earliest memories as a fan are of he and Tripp going up on fg attempts. Hope he and his family find peace.
Damn. I was in John U. Bacon's class and he brought in Vada Murray and Jim Betts to speak to the class the week of the OSU game. He brought the house down. So sad to hear of his passing.
I was there too. He was an awesome speaker and hilarious, especially when he was talking about giving out speeding tickets.
Rest in Peace Vada Murray, a true Michigan Man.
He gave me my one and only legal infraction in my entire life, an MIP a few months before I turned 21. I was at a function I knew he was going to be at a year ago and showed him a copy, his response was "one of many". The last meeting was less than a year ago when I he was signing items to benefit a scholarship that goes to Michigan students who either have cancer or whose parents have it. He had just been through a round fo chemo and radiation and his doctors said he was responding well. So sad to see it turn so badly so quickly and my sincere condolences to his wife and kids.
My thoughts and prayers go to his family.
So sad. Just heard him on the radio a month ago and stories about him. Condolences to his family. RIP.
Damn. I was talking to someone the other day that mentioned that he was getting close to passing. This is unfortunate. RIP Vada, my condolences to his family.
Someone needs to find a cure for cancer, and ASAP!
Sad day. Vada fought a hell of a fight. Prayers go out to his wife and kids.
I agree, he fought till the end, I was hoping he could somehow get past it but that's a very tough battle to fight. Very sad day, thoughts and prayers to his family in this difficult time.
to a hell of a Wolverine. Sad news.
He made a hell of a fight, but he's in a better place now. RIP

RIP VM and all prayers to the family.
The family is in our prayers
I got the chance to hear Vada speak in my History of Athletics class with John U. Bacon (I know, I know, I talk a lot about the class, but it was the greatest class I took at U of M). He seemed like a great person and a true Michigan Man. He will be missed.
Rest in peace, Vada...
And when you entered the gates of heaven, Bo told God, "We got a safety now."
When Bo passed, one of the things that helped us get by was thinking that he's up there coaching against Woody. Well, now Bo has one hell of a safety and one hell of a person joining his team.
We lived in the same house at South Quad and I had a class or two with him. He was a good guy. My condolences to his family.
becomes more difficult when you hear news like this. Thank you Lord for Vada's life and allowing him to share it with us.
We lose another Wolverine far too soon.
RIP, Vada. God bless your cotton-pickin maize and blue heart.
and now he and Bo are reunited once again. Bo was waiting at the pearly gates and gave him hug just as he used to do when Vada would block a FG attempt.
Take care of him Bo.
praying for his family.
Prayers all around for Vada Murray.
Your accomplishments on the the field are well documented and stand on their own, but your courage throughout this long fight will not soon be forgotten. R.I.P. and my prayers to your family.
Thanks for showing us the way. Fight hard. Stay tough. Never give up. Peace now to you and yours.
and makes you realize just how tenuous life is.
And how incredibly short our stay here is.
This is SO sad. I pass on my deepest sympathies to his family and wish Vada eternal peace. His on-field exploits and accomplishments notwithstanding, Vada was simply a great human being. I hope all Michigan Men live up to his standards.
Thanks for the memories vada. RIP.
In 1992, I was in a car accident. I was fine, but my car was totalled. It was the first brand new car I'd ever bought, and I'd had it for only 9 days. I was completely dejected. Vada Murray was the police officer who came to the scene. When I realized who he was, somehow my day was just a little bit better.
RIP Vada Murray. May those you leave behind find peace.
Terrible news. RIP... I remember him coming to our house party on Benjamin St, as a cop to ask to thin out the mass of people.
Hail. Vada, a true champion in life. We all regeret it was too short, but in our hearts always. Hail.
Thoughts and prayers to the family.
that's tough news.
Rest in Peace. Thoughts and prayers for the Murray family and the whole Wolverine family. You'll be missed by many.
RIP Vada. Thoughts are with your family. Go Blue!
Saw this, and said "Oh, no" out loud. My condolences to his family.
Not only a great Wolverine, but one of the best cops I've ever seen, and from all indications, a wonderful family man. I'm sorry to hear he's taken away from his wife and kids too soon. All the strength I can will to them.
Thank you for your hard work and service in assisting to make the Michigan Wolverines a storied program.
I hope his family finds peace. And never ending support in the Michigan family.
Great player, great teammate, great police officer, great leader. Great man.
Thank you for the work you did in the community, at the University and on the field.
You will be missed Vada. I am sad. It is always the great people that pass so young. Thoughts go out to his family.
Vada was one of my favorite all time Michigan football players. So sad. He was an amazing fucking athlete.
Thoughts and condolences to his family in this most difficult time.
Sad news. Remember the good times...and be thankful for what we have
A sad day for all. Thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and all who knew him. He was a great person.
that without his illness many of us may not have known about his wonderful life after football, and his wife and family may not have known how much he was appreciated by his Michigan family. His life was far too short, but he made the most of the life he had.
God Bless you Vada and your wife and kids. You stayed - you became a Champion - you served the community as a public officer. You are the epitome of a Michigan Man. Thank you.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the Murray family.
Sad to read this. God bless Vada and his family. He will always be loved and remembered.
he just ran out of time.
So sad for the family. Gone far too soon.
R.I.P. Where have all my heroes gone?
While we are feeling Blue, we know you are now feeling peace within a Maize’ing light!
Peace be with your family and we all look forward to seeing you on the other side.
A baller on the field, an inspiration off of it.
I'm speechless right now because the times I've met him over the last couple years, I was convinced he was going to beat this
He IS a true Michigan Man. RIP, my friend, we'll meet again in a better place
Thank you, Vada, for what you gave to the University of Michigan as a student-athlete and to the people of Ann Arbor as a police officer.
Vada was a senior my first year at Michigan. I never ran into him on campus, but I sure do remember him and Tripp Welborne in the secondary on gamedays.
I was always proud that a fellow Michigan alum became a police officer and loved the fact that a former Michigan player was keeping the people of Ann Arbor safe.
Vada, you will be missed.
Just got emotional over this at work today. I used to see Vada at the UM UGLi all the time in undergrad. He was the most noticeable football player on campus to me because of how outgoing and effusive he was. Always with a smile, always there studying and messing around like the rest of us.
Saw him last year tailgating before the ND game and tossed out a "Vada Murray!" at him as he walked by and he nodded and smiled. I knew he was sick and I thought that small gesture would let him know he was still a star in our eyes.
I think of how I'm 42, having just gotten married and about to start my family now, and how wrong it is that such a great guy was only given 43 years.
We really do need to cherish what we have, when we have it. We cherished you in life Vada and we cherish you today. Rest in peace bro.
Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
The good ones always go too soon. I will pray for your wife and kids.
