David Dawson's father passed away this morning following an accident.
Prayers to his family.
someone on WN posted a link a few days back... i know i know, its freep.... but... if you want some limited info.... go to freep and search for an article titled "MDOT courtesy patroller hit, injured after stopping to help on I-96"
tragic story...
I think he was hit by a car on the side of the road while he was attempting to help another passenger.
I saw this on twitter the other day.. VERY sad, I can't imagine what this kid must be going through right now. My prayers are with him and his family.
My prayers go out to David and his family.
It's never easy to lose a parent, but to do so at such a young age, before their time, is truly tragic. Our thoughts are with the Dawson Family in their time of grief.
"I love him, he's a great coach, he's a great mentor, he's a great friend. He's every single thing you want a college coach to be, and he does it flawlessly." -David Molk
His father was an MDOT worker that was hit on the side of 96.
Awful news and my prayers are with their family. sadly as someone that has done a lot of work on major highways im surprised this doesnt happen more often. i hope this is a lesson to some to slow down and watch for everything on the roads.

Wow. Absolutely tragic. My thoughts and prayers are with David and his whole family.

Deepest condolences to the Dawson family

The accident didn't happen this morning, but it sounds like the death did. Dick.
And I don't give a shit if that's ad hominem.
It is difficult to imagine what David must be going through - to lose a parent at all is terrible, but at that age and in those circumstances, it just flat out tragic. Condolences to the Dawson family.

My thoughts are with him and his family. That is a horrible thing to have to go through period, yet alone at 17, 18 years old.
absolutely horrifying. May God Rest His Soul.

When I lost my Father two years ago it was by far the worst period of time in my life. I was 35 at the time and he was 63 which I consider young. For this young man (and the rest of his family) to have to go through this at such a young age is truly a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Dawson family.
I second that. My dad passed away 2.5 years ago and I still haven't recovered. I don't think one truly ever does. I feel bad for David. On the other hand he has a lot of positive things in his life to support him and to look forward to. It's just too bad his dad won't be there in person to see him flourish, but he'll be looking down from above.
If someone is stopped on the side of the road, GET INTO THE OTHER LANE AND SLOW DOWN.
My heart goes out to David. He has my prayers.
Quick edit:
"...GET INTO THE OTHER LANE AND SLOW THE FUCK DOWN."
Can't imagine something like this happening at 18. My heart goes out to the kid.

This is tragic and my prayers go out to the Dawson family. That said, you are assuming they even noticed that someone was at the side of the road. I have had to flag traffic occasionally at my job and I am amazed (though I shouldn't be) by how many people are talking/texting on their phones. This is not the place for the texting while driving debate but if they find that to be the case here, I hope the driver goes to jail for a long time. I have almost been hit several times working on city streets and can't imagine being out on the freeway. This is just sad.
My thoughts exactly. There are too many tragic accidents like this every year.
My thoughts and prayers to the entire Dawson family.
Greetings from Bolivia.

RIP Mr. Dawson. Good luck David. No words, just sad.
This is a terrible and tragic story- and my condolences go out to David and his family.
It's obviously no replacement- but I am happy he will be at a place like Michigan where the coaches treat the players as family, and instill strong virtues and respect the student in student athlete. I hope he can find support from the UM community and team- and that he and his family can get the support they need.
I see those MDOT vans helping people all the time on 96. People don't slow down for them or move over. So sad to hear.

Those who stay, will be champions.
Whether professionals or just good samaritans, it seems that folks who try to help others often suffer the most. Thoughts to David and his family.
As a matter of fact I like beer.
It's true. Just like the people who jump in to save a drowning swimmer and end up drowning themsleves.

While absolutely tragic, it's nice to see the other guys from the 2013 class and other Wolverines (Pee Wee Pipkins) tweet David immediately telling him to stay strong and that they're there for him.
What a tough thing to go through, especially for someone his age. Best wishes to the entire family
So sad. Prayers and best wishes to his family and friends. I hope David knows that it's healthy to reach out for help and support.
RIP, and peace to the family.

It's bad enough that there's things like cancer and diabetes in our lives that we have so little control over but stuff like this is just so......utterly pointless.

Rest in peace. What a tragedy.
If David reads this, we at Michigan will do the best we can to make sure you feel at home. While nobody can ever replace your father, you will be a Michigan man for life no matter what your football career holds.
Could be worse. Could have been Kinesiology.
David, I know our condolences mean very little to you at this juncture, but I hope you understand all of our prayers are with you and your family as you grapple with this tragedy.

What a tough thing to happen to a young man's family and father. Especially since Mr. Dawson was just trying to help people. In times like this, its tough to put in to words and express the condolences and sympathy that equal the magnitude of the tragedy and the emotions that the Dawson family is going through. It just suck. RIP Mr. Dawson. Lets hope that everyone gives David and his family full support in these tough days ahead. Im sure that will be the case with the Michigan family that he is now a part of.
Love and prayers to the Dawson family at this time. This is something that such a young man should not have to deal with. Best wishes to the entire family.

Damn...that's awful. Rest in peace Mr. Dawson and I send my regards to David and his family. I can only imagine what he's going through right now.
If I say a duck can pull a truck, shut up and hook the sucka up!
I'm only a few years older then David, and I can't imagine losing my dad at this age. Must be horrible for him! Prayers go out to him and his family in this tragic time.
That is terrible. Do you happen to have a link or any other information?
Not that I loved Rich Rod less, but that I loved Michigan more.
