The money quote:

“I don’t know how other colleges are, but when you walk around here, you’ve got people . . . you’ve got guys walking around in dresses and just these hippies,” Stanzi said. “They’re doing nothing. There’s the Ped Mall area down there, right in the middle. Those people are going nowhere. Those people are the people who don’t like America.”

Seeing as how Stanzi is so accepting of other cultures and how other people live their lives...I wonder what he thinks about people that aren't like, white...or Christian. Not being political but seriously, this dude needs to get off of his high horse. And cut your fucking hair, you hypocrite! You look like you should be heading a Credence Clearwater Revival cover-band. Poser.

I'm actually kind of interested to know the degree to which Stanzi really believeseverything that comes out of his mouth.  Certainly to some extent he knows that saying shit like this has built him into a (sometimes ironic) CFB cult figure, and he's playing to the crowd.  Some sociology student needs to write a paper on the Stanzi phenomenon, stat.

EDIT:  Uh, nevermind.  At least per the interview linked in this thread, he's painfully sincere about all this stuff.  Doesn't vote or anything, but loves Springsteen (!) and Rocky.

As a member of the generation that spawned hippies, I had to laugh at the similarities in appearance of Stanzi today and those that were considered the first hippies. It was a movement started shortly after the "British Invasion" by the Beatles and Stones w/hair far closer to Ricky's length than those that followed.

It's assholes like him that espouse intolerance for all and any that may think differently than he that are the dangerous ones. It's not those that practice the individual freedoms of thought, speech and action that America was founded on that represent a cause for concern. It's the fucking idiots that think if all of us think and act alike we'll be far better off, of course as long as he happens to  think the same way.

The funny thing is this was one the three "patriotic" songs those dumb dipshits at 94.9 played for the veterans on Veteran's Day. I just shook my head and continued with my work. The funnier thing is, a veteran co-worker gave me a bunch or shit and  told me that I didn't get that song, when in fact  HE didn't get that song. I just simply told him to Google the lyrics.

There's a rumor reported on the radio here in Iowa that someone is trying to sell Deadspin a photo of Stanzi smoking some weed back in high school.  Not that I give a shit, but it's kind of funny that this mini-controversy popped up the same time this hippy critique came out.
