Is Rich Rodriguez the Michigan version of Charlie Weis and John L Smith?

Submitted by WolverineEagle on
Granted, he isn't 500 pounds and doesn't slap his star players, but looking at his first two teams, there is an noticeable similiarity. He is an offensive "genius" like Weis and Smith. But also like those forgettable two, his teams play very little defense. Unless Gerg can turn around the defense, RichRod will share the same fate as the aforementioned duo---unemployed. Offense maybe Rich's calling card, but it will the defense that will define his tenure at UM.

the vitriol spewed everytime one of these threads are posted is fairly amusing to me. we all knew what the thread was about before we clicked it, so why bother if its that offensive to you? and for those who say something along the lines of bringing down the material of the mgoboard, currently as i type on page 1 the mogboard has excellent material including: best avatar with chicks in it best dancing coach victoria secret fashion show best place to eat and drink in aa its not like this post is bumping back a dissertation of the new punt formations vis-a-vis return yardage vs fair catches. lets calm down here a little, eh?

Dissertation of the new punt formations vis-vis return yardage vs. fair catches? This guy does a good job: http://www.buckys5thquarter.com/2009/9/21/1046214/monday-film-session-b… Brian once did a much not-as-good-ish writeup of it: http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/the_sporting_blog/entry/view/37972/dea… Shouldn't need a dissertation, really. Just a few charts. You gotta tell me which teams use a spread punt. Here's the punting stats for this year: To my knowledge, Michigan uses a spread punt formation, Georgia doesn't.

So do you guys know Doc Brown's number. I was hoping he would sell me that sweet ass DeLorean so I could travel to August 2010. Then maybe, just maybe I would never have to read one of these I hate Rich Rod threads ever again.

What you could do is travel back in time, sink Bill Martin's sailboat, convince Mario Manningham and Adrian Arrington not to go to the NFL, Ryan Mallet to stay, Gittelson to stop feeding everybody pizza, Mallet not to transfer, Boren to stop being a dick, Pryor to come to Michigan (and to never comment on Michael Vick), Tim Tebow to stop playing college football, and bet huge on sports. On the way, kneecap Sidney Crosby so the Wings can with 2 Stanley Cups in a row. And bet big on any NBA games that Tim Donaghy calls. Or, we can just live with Rich Rod.

Weis: Was never a head coach ever Smith: Was just crazy and his players lacked discipline The defenses that RR had were not nearly as bad as you say (at WVU). To Los Barcos: This post brought absolutely no substance as to how they were similar the OP just said "OMG WHAT IF HE IS THESE GUYS THAT WERE TERRIBLE". If that happens and he is somehow miraculously the evil spawn of Charlie and John L Smiths love child then we are fucked. There I said it we are fucked. More than likely his whole coaching resume is there for a reason and he's a damn good coach. But what do I know.

i never said this post brought up any form of substance. i just merely stated the fact that a lot of posts dont have substance (the four i mentioned on the front page). i dont care about the best dancing coach, and thus, im not clicking on that thread. im sure alot of people dont care about it either, thats why it only has 7 replies. people arent reading a thread that they dont really care about; that seems to be a good solution, right? if you dont care about it, why read it? thats all i meant, geez, no need to neg me. :(

At this point, lots of folks are concerned with progress to date... but the grades must still be "incomplete" and I fail to see the purpose of spending time wondering how it might turn out. Let's TRY (and I emphaize try) to forget about M Football until next Spring (or at least until Signing Day), and not waste our times theorizing about what may or may not happen in the future under Coach Rod. Thankfully, he doesn't give a crap about what we're thinking right now... and neither do the players. Given that, I'm not sure why anyone else should care what each of us is carrying in our hearts after two of the worst football seasons in our lifetime.

Next thing, someone will post a poll asking, "what is worse: RR sux posts or dancing/chick/restaurant posts?" Who cares? However, regarding the original post, I see absolutely no similarity between RR & Charlie Tuna or John L. White. Weis was always a pompous ass who couldn't get along. RR has shown incredible grace and humility already this year. White never showed anything to me. RR has shown success at every level. I don't exactly know why (i.e., whether the fault was Lloyd's or others,) but RR came in to a program that was very weak in several areas. Three DC's in 3 years has been an unmitigated disaster. It is going to take another two years to really evaluate RR. He has to have time to restock the cupboard, and for the players to learn the system, and for there to be sufficient upper-classmen to compete. Ya know, one silver lining in the pain of last year and this year, and even next year: it is going to piss RR & Barwis & the team off SO MUCH that once they are fully competitive (which should begin in Fall 2011 and be in full throttle by Fall 2012), they will take no prisoners. While I don't like sweatervest and the bucknuts, I will give them this: they have not piled on RR and UM like some other jerks in the Big Ten and beyond. Payback will be glorious. To answer the OP one last time: NO, there is no similarity between RR & Charlie/John L. White. And nothing will prove this to your satisfaction other than the games in the next two years.

He simply noted a disturbing correlation between Rodriguez and two spectacular failures. He didn't exactly analyze the situation thoroughly, but that's no reason to neg him to the stone age. Also, over-covered and other useless topics get posted all the time. If that's your reason for negging the OP, then you should neg every other useless post (*cough* http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ot-best-avatar-chickchicks-it *cough*) as well. Just don't neg for unoffensive opinions (like the OP), particularly when they aren't even committed too (like the OP).
