I'd prefer that we win the game, whether Denard has to take every snap or if he only has to play the 1st quarter.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:10 PM ^
In other breaking news, 99.99% of the people here would prefer that we win too.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:25 PM ^
I think you missed the point.
I don't think a coach should ever say "No matter what the score, I'm going to play all three quarterbacks." Because if Michigan is in a dogfight the entire game, I don't want Gardner to take some snaps just because. The game isn't about getting everybody experience - it's about winning.
Hopefully we go up by 30 at halftime and then Gardner and Forcier can get a couple series each, which would make all of this moot.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:29 PM ^
Could mean 1 or 2 plays in a dogfight for a Denard water sip and 80 yard td.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:35 PM ^
It is not like he signed a contract with the TV station that all 3 QB's will play or we forfeit all proceeds from the game.....
My guess is he has looked at BGSU's game film and is confident we put up 30points by half-time. It is a message to the team to say, "if you guys screw this up, it is going to make me look bad. DEFEND MY HONOR". something to that effect....
September 24th, 2010 at 12:42 PM ^
100%. It's a good coaching strategy but could look terrible if it doesn't work (it will work).
September 25th, 2010 at 1:28 AM ^
Give RR some credit, i do not think he will play Devin if it is close. I do think it will be an easier game then UMASS. So most likely we will see all three QB's.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:16 PM ^
Stats... the chase for 2,000 yard rushing/passing... Heisman Watch features... "Shoelace" references on Sportscenter...
Sure, I'd love to see a win, too. BUT AT WHAT COST, SIR?!?!?
September 24th, 2010 at 1:11 PM ^
The Team...The Team...The Team.
How does the team get better? More experience for all, and less injuries. If UM is up by anywhere near 30 at half, Denard probably has a large amount of stats that will keep him in the heisman race and a feature on SportsCenter. I can't imagine that the BGSU will garner too much interest regardless unless it is a close game (which it sure as hell better not be.)
September 24th, 2010 at 12:28 PM ^
We should go into every game looking for a win. In this instance, I like the notion of a "promise" that all three QB's will play, if it makes BGSU work on more schemes and prepare for more looks.
The interesting thing to me is that we might just find out how improved Tate is, too, behind this 2010 O-line and with the surrounding talent. Denard Robinson might not be Michigan's only extravagantly talented QB.
September 24th, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
Thats right.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:48 AM ^
Where did he say this? I can't imagine it was that definitive. If the score is tied throughout, there is no way that RR pulls the best player on our team off the field. Don't see it.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:51 AM ^
Well, they better get in the game this week. Otherwise, Rich Rod's going to be a real spot in the 4th quarter against OSU. "Well, I don't want to do this, but I promised to play all three this season. Better take Denard out..."
September 24th, 2010 at 11:54 AM ^
Why would he have trouble putting Tate and Devin in during the 4th Quarter of the OSU game? It would only make sense to do just that being up 4 touchdowns and Denard having all but wrapped up the Heisman. Right?
September 24th, 2010 at 12:09 PM ^
Touche, good sir.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:54 AM ^
As much as I hate to say it the freep
September 24th, 2010 at 12:17 PM ^
The shame of it all.

September 24th, 2010 at 11:48 AM ^
This is like one of those situations where a parent has to say they love all three of their kids equally, but there's an obvious favorite.
Right now, if it's a close game, the only way Tate sees time is as a punter. Seriously, he's prob the best we've got right now.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:52 AM ^
Tate is the best punter we have? You're either delusional or purposefully ignorant.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:56 AM ^
I think he was being sarcastic...
...but still, Tate punted a few times last year and did a pretty damn good job.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:28 PM ^
I don't recall Tate dropping that ball on any of his punt attempts last year. Even if he only kicks it to the line of scrimage, its better than what we got last Saturday.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
based on what we saw during the spring game, Tate is probably the second best punter on the roster... and it may not be close.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
Looks like Tate will get some playing time this season, as a punter. Hmm I wonder if he can kick field goals?
September 25th, 2010 at 12:53 AM ^
Now that would make sense, regardless of the score.
Uh-oh, time for the XP. Tate!
September 24th, 2010 at 5:25 PM ^
Tate as a punter? Are u kidding me? When does the sarcasm stop?
September 24th, 2010 at 5:28 PM ^
What have you got against punters?
What have you got against sarcasm?
September 25th, 2010 at 1:42 AM ^
Obviously you did not watch last season. He punted a few times. Tate also did some punting in HS and he was fantastic.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:57 AM ^
"You're either delusional or purposefully ignorant."
Have you watched the first 3 games?
September 24th, 2010 at 11:55 AM ^
Give Hagerup a chance. Also, didn't Denard drop one inside the 5? Although, Tate may be our best kicker.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:12 PM ^
...followed by Random Parking Lot Guy, Kovacs, Vinopal, Dileo, Martin, Lewan, Campbell, Odoms, MRob's Abs, a strong tailwind, the cotton-pickin' maize and blue soul of Bob Ufer, Sheridan, Navarre, GERG, Angry Michigan Safety Hating God, Tacopants, and Gibbons/Broekhuizen.
In that order.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:29 PM ^
Nice work there. The mental image of Campbell lining up a FG is priceless. BTW - Aren't Vinopal's legs are too short to kick?
September 24th, 2010 at 12:37 PM ^
He makes up for it with grit and moxie.
September 24th, 2010 at 5:12 PM ^
A truly awe-inspiring sight was watching Sam Sword kick field goals for Arthur Hill High School. (He also played wide receiver. So after the QB would thrown him the ball, Sword would cactch it and run it into the end zone, kick the extra point, and then go play defense.).
September 24th, 2010 at 1:32 PM ^
Not sure Bob Ufer's Soul has any eligibility left.
September 24th, 2010 at 1:41 PM ^
that Lloyd Christmas/Tom Brady kid in the student section. He's on the six-deep at kicker.
September 24th, 2010 at 7:13 PM ^
Honestly, Tacopants is not a good kicker.
September 24th, 2010 at 3:31 PM ^
Even if you were jokingI love the idea of Tate being our short field punter. If we are anywhere on our side of the field, let Hagerup punt, if we are inside the opponents 20, kick a field goal. The based on distance on fourth down between the 20 and 50 we either put in Denard (say if the distance is 3 yards or less) or put in Tate (4 yards or more). Tate has shown he can hit an accurate punt 35 yards. He would also give us a fantastic opportunity to fake it anytime we felt like it and the opponent wouldn't be tipped off by a substitution.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:52 AM ^
That's pretty much been his mantra all along. He keeps saying he wants to get all three playing time but we've seen how it's gone so far. He knows what he's doing if we aren't up by a couple of Td's he's not going to mess with what's worked so far. Have faith !!!!
September 24th, 2010 at 11:53 AM ^
Wow, coach has some trick plays drawn up for this week.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:55 AM ^
A play designed with all three in the game at once? Yeehaw!
September 24th, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
that we may see "the" quadruple option play on Saturday?
What if Kennedy gets into the game? Quintuple option?
September 24th, 2010 at 12:38 PM ^
Transcontinental! Tate to Denard (everyone thinks it's Tay Odoms or Vincent Smith*) and Denard back to Tate.
*I think the ND announceers confused V. Smith and Denard on a fumble recovery, so it'll totally work.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:59 AM ^
I doubt RR reveals anything from his bag of tricks this week. He will save the tricks for the B10 schedule. I do, however, expect that at some point this season, RR will have a formation with both Tate and Denard in the game.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:02 PM ^
If the above quote is correct, I cant see how he will play all 3 this week without trick plays. There is no way he thinks we are going to blow them out.
September 24th, 2010 at 5:32 PM ^
We are undefeated.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:29 PM ^
Trick plays?
September 24th, 2010 at 12:53 PM ^
Look at him motor down the sideline. He could give Denard a close race.
