There's the link but I'll give a brief summary of what was said:

  • Rich Rod wants to spend 15-20 mins a day with the defense to get a fix
  • Hard to figure out a 18-19 year olds mindset going into an FCS game following an emotional win versus Notre Dame
  • Tried to stress contain during practice and during the game last week, things just didn't get fixed (ARGH!) Will work on it more during practice this week.
  • Kickers kick well in practice, need to perform in game. Had a kid ask him about trying out and he may end up on the team.
  • Working out to burn off stress avoid having what happened to Dantonio happen to him
  • Lewan may start this week.
  • Impressed with BG skill positions, especially running back. They run a spread.
  • Ash definitely redshirting barring injuries to guys ahead of him.
  • Carvin still questionable, Marvin will be back
  • Would have played Tate and Devin had Gordon not dropped the pick.
  • Stonum has greatly matured.

Yeah contain is a big one that needs to get fixed. Too many times Mouton flew in and got burned towards the outside.

Also hoping that Lewan starts and continues to play well.

I didn't know BG was a spread team. Good information there.  The conventional wisdom would be that the defense sees a lot of spread working in practice and should be more comfortable than a lot of teams against it.

Also, gotta think we'll see a much more disciplined bunch on defense this week. This is the 3rd time I have heard coaches or players talk about responsibilities upon recognizing a certain play as a key area of focus.

Plus what Brian showed us in the Mouton play diagram yesterday.

Thanks for this.  RR also mentioned on Bakita and Grey that he has had students stalking him in the parking lot in the mornings trying to ask him about kicking for him.  I like it.  I smell a better Rudy (and real) on the horizon...

Thanks for the info.. I hope they extra work with the LB's on contain makes a difference. The good news is(outside of Ezeh) it can be fixed pretty quickly. Mouton has played well for the most part this season so I can see him bouncing back.

BG runs a lot of quick passing routes, dink and dunk down the field. Their offensive line isn't very good(they constantly get blown away on pass blocking and their running backs, who actually aren't too bad are only averaging 2.7 YPC this year)so Martin and co should be in the backfield all day long. That also means we have to defend the rollout pass better, because I am sure we will see a ton of it this week.

I am with everyone else on the kicker situation. It would be amazing if a student popped up out of the blue and showed they could kick.

When RR says that he wants to spend 15-20 mins a day working on the defense, is that really saying much? How much responsibility does the head coach really have in relation to his coordinators (i.e. GERG w/ defense and Calvin w/ offense) for the specific parts of the team?

Maybe it's just me but EVERYTIME I see BG on this board I immediately think Brandon Graham, not Bowling Green.  That's a guy that knows how to contain.
