Ricardo a 3*?

Submitted by GRBluefan on

Does anyone know when this happened? I understand that the rivals team has not been uber-impressed with him, but this seems a bit extreme.

Does anyone know if he has just looked god-awful in camps, games, etc. All the talk last year was about him being a potential top 5 in the state of Florida, and now he is a second-tier state of Michigan guy, per at least one major recruiting service.

(note...I am not panicking, nor do I really care about the ranking, but it is disturbing to think that Ricardo is underwhelming people with his performance / ability)

It happened last week. Rivals went and watched a scrimmage of his and came away thoroughly unimpressed. They thought he looked like an OLB trying to play WR, or something like that. Basically too slow and bad routes to be a top WR is their thinking.

I've never really understood all the hoopla surrounding Miller. All that talk about a potential 5-star player seemed premature, and now he's a 3-star.

I was at the Dexter game and Ricardo Miller was pretty awesome... 2 catches (both 40+ yards) for TDs, one a short little slant that he took to the house, and a 3rd 30+ yard TD catch that got called back because their QB doesn't understand the concept of a 'line of scrimmage'.

Granted this was against the GOD AWFUL HOLY HELL defense of Dexter, but hey...

The kid's good. Who cares about stars?

read my complete comment, or just assume it was an OMG, 3* freakout comment?

I said I didn't care about the rating, but that it was a bit troubling that various professionals found his PERFORMANCE ON THE FIELD / PRACTICE FIELD to be underwhelming.

Perhaps you and I differ in this regard, but I would generally prefer people who are paid to offer their opinion on HS football players to be impressed with the performance of someone coming to my school to play football, not underwhelmend. If Ricardo was a 3* generating positive buzz for his actual play, I would be happy. As it is, he is generating negative buzz according to Rivals (although a different poster said he played quite well this week).

Yeah, I was more or less agreeing with you, I think.

My point was these stars are assigned buy guys who've seen what, a game or practice or two? Riccardo is at a new school, new offense, new quarterback. I would look for his production to go up as the year goes on and he becomes more comfortable.

It was more an indictment on the whole stars process as a whole.

but Braylon Edwards and Mike Hart were both 3* guys. I think that worked out pretty well. Lets wait till he gets on campus to make a judgement. Besides, his film looks good.

I think this guy, with the Michigan tatoo, makes an amazing point. Mike Hart and Braylon Edwards WERE both 3* guys. I never knew that. I just assumed that since they were awesome they had to be 5* guys.

Man, next you're going to tell me that Pat White was a 2*, like 2* guys could ever be that good.

I was at the game against Inkster a few weeks ago and wasn't all that impressed, but then I went back and thought about it and realized that he's only been in Pioneer's system for about a month now. So I bet he improves statistically (and in his second game apparently he did) as the season goes on.

Anyhow, screw the rankings, I trust RR's ability to bring in good players and evaluate talent a lot more than the media/recruiting sites. Would I prefer to have all 5 and 4 star players in a vacuum? Sure, but not having them isn't enough of a reason to get up in arms. We're going to be sweet soon enough, and it's just a matter of letting it happen.

There are numerous reasons not to think highly of Ricardo:

1. He committed early, which is always frowned upon in the ranking world

2. He moved from the best recruiting state in the country to one of the less challenging divisions in one of the lesser states

3. He hasn't been fully integrated into Pioneer's offense yet and it looks like his senior year won't be all that impressive.

4. We're on a Michigan board and only like to believe the "OMG FIVE STAR" hype about our commits.
