Review of 2007 Recruiting: Defensive Tackles

Submitted by Magnus on

The name Joseph Barksdale hasn't been mentioned around here in a while. Remember that guy? The big-time recruit from down I-94 at Cass Tech, before it was a pipeline to Ann Arbor? This week I looked at the defensive tackles that Michigan tried to recruit in the 2007 class.

"The biggest risk to Quebec isn't sovereignty. It's staying in Canada."

And thus began the story of Renaldo Sagesse.

Magnus, maybe you can shed some light on this question...

In looking at that 2007 Roster, Terrence Taylor was quite the plug in the middle there, and was probably the second to last in a nice little string of above average 300 pounders (gabe Watson, Alan Branch, and finally Mike Martin) that were featured on out interioror D-Line.  Do you see any of the guys on our current roster turning into that 300 pound, double team eating, run-stopping nightmare that became the norm during the early-mid 2000's?

Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I think Pipkins, Mone, Hurst, and Henry all have that capability. Pipkins has been less productive than I expected, but he and Mone are space eaters. Hurst and Henry are more like Martin, where they're more likely to beat doubles with quickness rather than mass.

Meh.  Ended up on the OL, and we didn't need any stinkin' help with our OL between 2007-2011.

You mentioned Devon Still.   I had no idea that he was B1G D POY in 2011.   Shows you how much I was paying attention.  That dude flew under my radar.

and agree that brent should've done alot more than 180 days for killing his buddy and then testing dirty while out on bond awaiting trial.  seems to show a lack of true remorse, to say the least.

But more so than a lack of remorse, it seems to indicate to me that he doesn't care about changing his ways. The purpose of punishment is to ensure that the person won't repeat his behaviors and can become a functional member of the society. If you go right back to what got you in trouble in the first place, then you're a moron.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed the write-up.
