Reuben Jones moving to MLB
January 10th, 2016 at 2:31 PM ^
major league baseball.
January 10th, 2016 at 3:25 PM ^
Yeah, I wanted to know which team and which position!
January 10th, 2016 at 7:42 PM ^
No way he makes a roster, he's not even playing at the B1G level, or at least he's not playing for us.
January 10th, 2016 at 4:10 PM ^
I also wondered how it could possibly work, since I didn't remember him as being the athletic type.
January 10th, 2016 at 4:57 PM ^
Reuben Kincaid, but +1 for the early 70's pop culture reference.
C'mon get happy!
January 10th, 2016 at 8:56 PM ^
Knew that, but thought I could sneak it by because, you know, Shirley JONES.
+1 to you for catching it.
January 10th, 2016 at 10:35 PM ^
Shirley. And she didn't mind being called that.
January 11th, 2016 at 12:18 AM ^
Did she mention she had talked with Rashan Gary about his recruitment.
January 11th, 2016 at 11:21 AM ^
My brother played bass for a band out of Athens, GA in the 1990's. They were initally called Reuben Kincaid, but learned another band in the same town went by that name. His band changed its name to The Real Reuben Kincaid, but came to feel this was disrespectful to the first band. Finally, they shortened the name to Kincaid.
I would have passed this 70's trivia test for that reason.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:31 PM ^
He was practicing there during the bowl practices. I thought this was a known thing?
January 10th, 2016 at 3:20 PM ^
I'm often surprised by how many people don't read every shred of info on this site. do they have a life or something?
I just wonder if the move is considered permanent or a trial thing. we arent exactly stacked at the Buck position either.
January 10th, 2016 at 4:11 PM ^
Who said the Buck is even a thing anymore?
January 10th, 2016 at 4:28 PM ^
who knows. substitute wde for Buck then, basically the same players
January 10th, 2016 at 4:33 PM ^
Yes we are...at least in terms of bodies we are.
- Taco Charlton
- Lawrence Marshall
- Shelton Johnson
- Carlo Kemp
- Ronald Johnson
...Jones can obviously play it. And there are stories of Winovich going back to defense.
That's 7 guys and the majority of them are young guys.
If you keep recruiting the position like we have been, we'll be fine. Obviously there's no one proven, but it's not like Jones was proven either.
We're definitely deep at that spot when it comes to bodies. In fact, outside of QB and TE, we may not be deeper anywhere else (when it comes to bodies).
January 10th, 2016 at 4:57 PM ^
well yeah... was looking at more then just bodies. hoping for bodies that were experienced and could contribute
January 10th, 2016 at 5:45 PM ^
Isn't Jones "just a body?"
What difference does it make if he's in the mix or not if we're talking about production or experience?
We've got almost none of that with or without Jones.
January 10th, 2016 at 5:57 PM ^
well yeah, that's my point, both positions are weak
January 10th, 2016 at 6:45 PM ^
We're returning two "starters" in taco and marshall. nor sure how much more depth you'd like, but this is about as good as depth gets in college. We have a known quality starter in taco coming back, and plenty of potential behind him.
January 10th, 2016 at 7:05 PM ^
Marshall is a returning starter? he didn't see the field last year, a lot of people think be won't even be on the team next year. we have Taco, assuming he switches to the Buck/wde full time next year followed by a bunch of guys who have never seen the field. yes the MLB position is probably worse since we have Gedeon and a bunch of question marks but just because MLB is the biggest question mark doesn't mean Buck/wde is strong.
January 10th, 2016 at 8:35 PM ^
Marshall played almost zero this season, and absolutely zero meaningful snaps. I wouldn't even consider him a returning contributor, let alone returning starter. Brady Pallante is more of a returning starter than Marshall.
January 11th, 2016 at 11:17 AM ^
He played in 4 games and made 1 tackle. Allen Gant had 6 and 2 respectively.
January 10th, 2016 at 9:05 PM ^
very slow proven. What have you to lose? A couple big plays? Wait...that shits been happening for awhile. Run with it and hope for the best!
January 10th, 2016 at 11:25 PM ^
we don't even have very slow proven. we might have very slow unproven but they haven't been proven to be slow yet.
January 11th, 2016 at 12:24 AM ^
After all these years Ronald Johnson finally came to Ann Arbor.

Also, imagine being in a 5 year coma and waking up to read your first sentence.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:35 PM ^
Hopefully, the day will come when social stuff will just get automatically embedded into everyone's consciousness.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:37 PM ^
"You still have been updating my Myspace page though right!?"
January 10th, 2016 at 2:41 PM ^
Even that guy would be a little behind the times.
January 10th, 2016 at 5:15 PM ^
Imagine waking up from a 5 year coma and seeing Harbaugh with an M on his cap.
January 10th, 2016 at 5:46 PM ^
It would be a relief, you made it heaven. If Harbaugh was wearing an OSU cap, well, things went south.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:32 PM ^
I know this was a pre-bowl experiment thing, but is there any indication that this is permanent? Also, if we move to a 3-4, I see him much more as an OLB than MLB.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:36 PM ^
Same. Ace mentioned in his Hello post that he is a hybrid WDE/OLB player.
January 10th, 2016 at 3:22 PM ^
the Buck essentially is a 34 olb. I think the move indicated be was trying out at mlb
January 10th, 2016 at 3:59 PM ^
Isn't the prevailing thought now that we mostly played a 4-2-5 last year, and will next year as well?

January 10th, 2016 at 8:36 PM ^
I don't know what the prevailing thought is for next year, to be honest.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:33 PM ^
Book it and remember I said it first! It's just a matter of time
January 10th, 2016 at 2:39 PM ^
Not 1:1 in any way... But Brian Urlacher was a safety early in his college career at New Mexico. So like... If Peppers is Brian Urlacher but more athletic that would be not awful.

Except Urlacher was 6'4, 230 plus, then played LB at 250 in the NFL. Guy was a freak.

Urlacher also returned kicks (!!!!!) like Peppers
January 10th, 2016 at 3:24 PM ^
Peppers is a football player, you waste time labeling him a LB. you could already consider him a LB based on where he played most of his snaps last year. now if you are suggesting that he will play MLB then I disagree. he would need to gain a lot of weight.
January 10th, 2016 at 6:12 PM ^
MLB would be impossible.
He doesn't have the physical frame to carry the at least 20+ more lbs he would need. He's already maxed out his frame as far as weight, which usually happens by the end of college, but was the end of high school is his case.
And it's not that he's not athletic or tough enough (you've seen him carry the ball), but that he would be wasted eating up blocks from O-lineman.
He was basically a hybrid DB/LB last year, but always outside, because of his incredible speed he could get in between positions and had the agility to slip blocks and the strength to make play-stopping one on one tackles,
With his skillset, MLB would be a waste, his dynamism is just too valuable elsewhere.
January 10th, 2016 at 9:09 PM ^
you speak my language. Should change your name though. Run with Culvers or Sonic.
January 10th, 2016 at 3:58 PM ^
I said it before you, so there.

January 10th, 2016 at 2:37 PM ^
I think that's a good idea
January 10th, 2016 at 2:44 PM ^
If he adds some weight, he could be a beast at ILB.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:48 PM ^
#ItsReallyCrazy
January 10th, 2016 at 3:06 PM ^
"It's really crazy!!!"
January 10th, 2016 at 4:06 PM ^
the football team is getting served subs now?
January 10th, 2016 at 5:57 PM ^
this move. he seems like a quick dude. go blue.
January 10th, 2016 at 6:24 PM ^
Good call, but he might have trouble playing MLB in the 4-0-7 defense we're running next year.
