Reuben Jones moving to MLB

Submitted by leftrare on
According to instagrammer Hailtomich, referencing a snapchat from Jones himself, he says he's moving to MLB. Seems like a logical adjustment by the staff given depth comparison between DEs and LBs. He's got good size for it as long as he hasn't bulked up too much toward being a DE. Edit: just noticed Brian referred to this in his look forward to the 2016 defense. Sorry if I covered old news.

My brother played bass for a band out of Athens, GA in the 1990's. They were initally called Reuben Kincaid, but learned another band in the same town went by that name. His band changed its name to The Real Reuben Kincaid, but came to feel this was disrespectful to the first band. Finally, they shortened the name to Kincaid.

I would have passed this 70's trivia test for that reason.

Yes we are...at least in terms of bodies we are.

  1. Taco Charlton
  2. Lawrence Marshall
  3. Shelton Johnson
  4. Carlo Kemp
  5. Ronald Johnson

...Jones can obviously play it. And there are stories of Winovich going back to defense.

That's 7 guys and the majority of them are young guys.

If you keep recruiting the position like we have been, we'll be fine. Obviously there's no one proven, but it's not like Jones was proven either.

We're definitely deep at that spot when it comes to bodies. In fact, outside of QB and TE, we may not be deeper anywhere else (when it comes to bodies).

Marshall is a returning starter? he didn't see the field last year, a lot of people think be won't even be on the team next year. we have Taco, assuming he switches to the Buck/wde full time next year followed by a bunch of guys who have never seen the field. yes the MLB position is probably worse since we have Gedeon and a bunch of question marks but just because MLB is the biggest question mark doesn't mean Buck/wde is strong.

very slow proven. What have you to lose? A couple big plays? Wait...that shits been happening for awhile. Run with it and hope for the best!

I know this was a pre-bowl experiment thing, but is there any indication that this is permanent? Also, if we move to a 3-4, I see him much more as an OLB than MLB.

MLB would be impossible.

He doesn't have the physical frame to carry the at least 20+ more lbs he would need. He's already maxed out his frame as far as weight, which usually happens by the end of college, but was the end of high school is his case.

And it's not that he's not athletic or tough enough (you've seen him carry the ball), but that he would be wasted eating up blocks from O-lineman.

He was basically a hybrid DB/LB last year, but always outside, because of his incredible speed he could get in between positions and had the agility to slip blocks and the strength to make play-stopping one on one tackles,

With his skillset, MLB would be a waste, his dynamism is just too valuable elsewhere.
