IT'S BACK!!!!!!
Hopefully someone won't have to get season-ending surgery from the "coin toss."

I work as a business analyst manager. It is my job to listen to tons of ideas every day. That may have been the worst suggestion I have ever heard, in any aspect of my life.
January 25th, 2018 at 12:36 PM ^
only one problem: we have no idea if you are good at your job.
who knows, you may be the george costanza of business analysis management...
January 25th, 2018 at 1:02 PM ^
I'm amazing at managing business analysts. My management strategy is to take my initial instincts on a problem, and have everyone do the exact opposite of that. It's flawless.

that the thing has political and racial nuances (see connections between guy pushing it and major political figures).
Without going there I'll still bet that, as with so many showbiz ideas in our time, this gets designed to make some up-front money for those pushing it and goes el-foldo fast.
January 25th, 2018 at 1:49 PM ^
going to make a comeback in this league? I would give it a try if they play games in the Spring.
January 25th, 2018 at 6:13 PM ^
XFL was awesome, for a minute. Just make sure we get another "He Hate Me" out of this deal and its all good.
January 25th, 2018 at 11:42 AM ^
Will say "i'll watch" and will watch one game and realize it's garbage football. There is a reason this league failed nearly 20 years ago, and will continue to fail.
January 25th, 2018 at 12:00 PM ^
Sometimes I'll see AFL or CFL football on TV and I'm look "Oo cool. More football to watch" then you turn it on and realize it looks like mid-level FBS football minus the big crowds, the fanfare, the tradtion, etc. To survive, I'd bet they need it to be a spring/summer league. Going head to head with college and the NFL would be foolish
January 25th, 2018 at 4:07 PM ^
The original XFL was a spring/summer league. I'd be shocked if this wasn't.

Michigan team win a championship before the Lions?
January 25th, 2018 at 12:30 PM ^
Already happened. The 1983 Michigan Panthers with Anthony Carter won the USFL championship that year. They are the last pro football franchise from Michigan to win a championship.

Bobby Hebert the QB?

The Grand Rapids Rampage won ArenaBowl 2001. Assuming one counts AFL as professional football.
January 25th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
Not counting arena league. I guess I should re-phrase it and say the last 11 man football professional championship in the state.

I'll take the under.
January 25th, 2018 at 11:52 AM ^
I wish the arena league would come back. It was something different but very entertaining.
Edit: I guess it still exists. I haven't seen or heard about it in years.
January 25th, 2018 at 11:54 AM ^
Pretty sure the Arena Football League is still around, but there's only four teams so go figure that you never hear about it much.
January 25th, 2018 at 12:10 PM ^
Ha when I was in middle school we had season tickets to the Indiana Firebirds of the AFL. Ah good times.
January 25th, 2018 at 12:11 PM ^
last I checked on it a few years ago there were like 15 or so teams. Looks like a few went to the IFL and a bunch of other ones folded
January 25th, 2018 at 12:25 PM ^
Sioux Falls Storm is the local IFL team here. Fun to go drink beer and watch. Not so much fun to just go watch.
January 25th, 2018 at 12:34 PM ^
When they are in the playoffs, they pack the Sioux Falls Arena. But the regular season games are lackluster.
January 25th, 2018 at 12:40 PM ^
Very accurate on both statements.

The first go around started less than a year after it was first announced. Dumb.
It had stupid and uninteresting rule changes, like the injurious coin-toss replacement and the "no fair catches" rule. Dumb.
It turned their cheerleaders and sideline reporters into strippers. Dumb.
The season started less than a month after the Super Bowl and everyone needed a break from football. Dumb.
A new league could work, but here's what they need to consider:
- Start the season later in the spring, preferrably right after college spring football. People are hungry for more football at that point.
- Institute some REAL rule changes that actually change how the sport is played (ex: make more offensive players eligible to receive passes, make it 3 or 5 downs for a first down, no punting, etc.)
- Make players eligible to join the league immediately after high school
January 25th, 2018 at 12:03 PM ^
So basically Canadian Football...
January 25th, 2018 at 12:07 PM ^
The original incarnation billed itself as an alternative to the NFL right out of the gate. It should have first established itself as the best "other" league and gone after the Arena League and Canadian interest. So, yeah. Put the Hosers outs of business first.
January 25th, 2018 at 4:49 PM ^
I do like the idea of making it open to players right out of high school.
And I think 3 downs to get 10 yards or even how about 4 downs to get 15 or 20 yards would be a great way to incentivize passing and reduce the impact felt by linement and linebackers in the running game.
January 25th, 2018 at 5:24 PM ^
The XFL is going to have minor league paychecks. The league folds as fast as the last one or they get hurt and where are they then?
January 25th, 2018 at 9:53 PM ^
January 25th, 2018 at 12:28 PM ^
Rule change: You can throw a forward pass over the line of scrimmage.
Any player can do it . . . a QB, a running back, even a reciever after he's already caught a pass.
Open the game way up.
I'd watch.
January 25th, 2018 at 1:56 PM ^
they could have a Lingere football game. I went to one of those games once and I have to admit it was pretty entertaining. Beside the good looking women playing, they really got after it and took it very serious tryinig to win. There was some big hits in the game. I was kind of surprised at how serious the players took it.
January 25th, 2018 at 4:48 PM ^
I'd watch that too.
January 25th, 2018 at 12:29 PM ^
All good ideas. Hence, no one will think to implement them.
Will changing 4 downs to First Down to 3 or 5 downs to First Down be a really radical idea?
January 25th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
I think it would. If they want a more run-oriented/"smash mouth" style of play, go with 5. If they want an even more pass-oriented style of play, go with 3.
