Eh, we'll see what he says on April 10th. He was good this year, but I don't think he was good enough to go in the first round. But what do I know, I'm not the one being faced with the opportunity to make millions.

Seems like due diligence more than anything else to me.  Not that Snyder doesn't try to add sensationalist quotes all over the place.

Also love his penultimate paragraph apropos of nothing else:

Burke is listed at 5-feet-11.

Crack writing there.

Well that would really suck. IMO he needs at least one more year in college.

I really hope he didn't use Michigan as a stepping stone for the NBA. Perhaps he chose Michigan to stick it to Ohio.

This would really hurt us for the 2012 season.

Well Smotrycz was a slap to the tip, this would be a kick to the balls.

What kind of draft grade do you think he gets?  I really have to imagine you could honestly say he is strongly consider coming back too....kind of a partly sunny or partly cloudy?

requires you to declare by April 10th every year. Before you could work out with teams for a few months and see if you get a first round promise or what kind of feedback you get from coaches and GM's. You would be making a relatively informed decision as the consensus to who is in the top 20-25 picks are pretty settled about the last week before the draft. Now you have time for one workout at best and you are making an almost completely uninformed decision. Morris had a couple agents/scouts tell him before the workout in Jersey (he pulled out) that he was a first round lock and he declared.

Who knows who is in Burke's ear. If he declares there is almost no way he goes in the first round this year. We will see.

If this happens, just wow.  Losing Smot, Tre, Novak, Douglas, and even Tre's likely backup?  Pretty hard to see how we would not take a major step back from this, even with the new incoming talent.

Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue . . .

I wonder if the fact that Sullinger stayed an extra year and probably lost a chunk of money has anything to do with this.  I assume Burke is close with both Jared and his father.

Come on.  Seriously?  April Fools is still a 10 days away even if the weather is suggesting it has passed.

If he's thinking about it there must be news about PG depth in the draft. Tyshawn Taylor is in because he's a senior.  After that, who else is for sure in might tell something - Kendall Marshall?  Marquis Teague? Damian Lillard?  BJ Young?  There are some other combo guards likely in the conversation, but otherwise some middling guys he has out-performed.  This will be an unfortunately interesting story to follow.  Ugh.

Jesus - he wouldn't even be taken in the first round in this draft, guys.... Kendall Marshall is a late round lottery pick for chrissake.

[edit - I love Burke.  he will play in the league some day.  I just don't see him entering into a draft that is LOADED with talent.  next year?  high chance.]

"Jesus - he wouldn't even be taken in the first round in this draft"

You know that.  And I know that.  And every NBA scout knows that.

But if the same people who convinced Darius & Manny they were a mid first round lock get into his ear then it's bye-bye Trey.  Unfortunately for both the player and the program the folks who tend to have maximum influence on the players decision tend to be the same folks who will happily spend hi money for him for as long as he's able to make it.

Anyone who is mad he is inquiring about his draft options (something a responsible person would do) is incredibly selfish.  He had an incredible season, and the point guard class is very weak.  Also, this doesn't say he's declaring.

but all an NBA scout has to look at are the last two games against "Ohio" to realize he's not ready for the NBA - neither is THJ.  And that's totally fine with me.

I guess it also depends on the talent pool in this given year. Admittedly I have no idea how big the talent pool is from college this year, so I guess it's possible. That would be too bad, but - these are problems we want to have.  Would just be nice to have them after year 3 of a player not year 1.

I don't think he's ready, but ya never know what kind of advice these kids are getting and who's giving it besides dad.

In any case I think M Basketball is heading in the right direction.

Just spoke with Benji Burke re: Trey Burke, says Burke is going to seek NBA draft advisory info, make a decision there.

Benji says if it were up to he and his wife, Trey Burke would be back at Michigan -- and that's where they're leaning right now.

But, they felt they had to at least check things out and see where everything stood.

Benji Burke said the family has discussed all of this with John Beilein, and Beilein will be kept completely in the loop on all of this

I seem to remember Beilein saying last year that they encourage kids to look at their NBA possiblities each year. It may be nothing more than that.

A kid in his position will always and should look into his NBA draft prospects.  Ultimately, I think the family wanting him to stay bodes well.  I also think if he can even show slight improvement next year he will be in at least the same position.  He is not a lottery pick right now.  After that I think most picks are about the same where they will be fighting for a roster spot.  Unfortunately You can't come back if you enter the draft and hopefully Trey recognizes this.

Staying at Michigan provides a certainty for his next year and certain goals.  Entering the draft brings in a lot of uncertainty.  Does he want to deal with the risk of playing in the D league, europe, etc in case he enters the wrong situation with the NBA?  Not saying I think he wouldn't make it, he has already proven enough people wrong throughout his days.  But there is that chance.  Pro ball will always be there.  He has a good thing going.  No one to challenge his minutes, and he will have plenty of chances to increase that assist total with all the talent next year.  I think he would be wise to enjoy some more time in Ann Arbor.  Please stay Trey.  At least until Derrick Walton shows up.  Please
