Good hire. And Bucci mentioned a few days back to expect John Madden on the staff. Going to be interesting to see how the rest of the staff fills out, but I'm pumped.

Madden is currently the head coach of The Cleveland Monsters of the AHL.  The AHL is where new  NHL head coaches come from.  He spent 3 years as an NHL assistant coach for Florida.  Madden's predecessor at Cleveland was Jared Bednar,  who is now the head coach of the Avs.  Madden's resume has everything a coach needs to be considered qualified for the big leagues.

My point is that you don't give up a shot at the NHL to become an assistant coach in the NCAA.  Maybe for a head coaching job, but even that would be a strange decision.

Yeah it doesn't make much sense. Perhaps he would like to live in Ann Arbor and coach at his alma mater. Perhaps his pinnacle goal for his coaching career is HC at Michigan and this is the best route for achieving that goal. Maybe it would be a pay raise. I'm just spitballing here. He's one of my favorites though and I would love it if he joined the staff. Perhaps he'd infuse a little more grit into the team

My brother-in-law is connected with Tech's program and he said over a week ago that this was the likely outcome based on what local talk was. His source said Muckalt to Tech if Pearson leaves.
