so much for that
Reon Dawson an Ohio fan
Kick this kid off the team!! All kidding aside as long as he plays his tail off for Michigan and helps beat Ohio I don't really care.
I will say it and don't care about the consequences...I don't want him here. I hope the seniors and staff make him feel very uncomfortable. I bet he doesn't last long, and better yet I hope he doesn't qualify. Perhaps there will be a mix up at the registars office, and he didn't actually get accepted.
I really don't want to hear the "he is just a dumb kid" excuse from you perpetual defenders of the stupid and naive. That was a blantant, unnervingly foolish and disrespectful comment. And yes, our rivalry with Ohio means that much that we shouldn't stand for a teenager going out of there way to disrespect us is such a hideous way.
"Everybody thinks of changing humanity, but nobody thinks of changing himself." - Leo Tolstoy
Wow. That's not even close to the reaction I had. The whole "appeal" of the rivalry is the alleged respect that the teams have for each other. A true rivalry is not one of hatred but of mutual respect (and a little hatred mixed in there). If you really feel that way then, to be honest like you were, you really aren't much better than the obnoxious Ohio fans that we all despise.

but I don't think many of us share it. It's a bit strange for him to be a lifetime Ohio State fan and play for Michigan, but I can't see how it's disrespectful.
Yeah hoping a kid (yes he's a 17 or 18 year old kid) gets his college education messed up because of his sporsts fandom is pretty messed up and not at all ok. I regret that I had but one neg to give you and wish they counted still so you could end up in Bolivia for this.

Formerly akron_wolverine and columbus_wolverine. New home, new name. A year in Columbus was enough.
Oh for God's sake dude get a fucking life. The kid grew up here in Ohio were he's had a steady, 24 hour, force-fed diet of Buckeye wonderfullness shoved down his throat since he was born. And yet, despite all that, he wants to play for us.
This isn't some secret society where you have to take a blood oath and pledge your unwaivering and unquestioning support or you die - this is COLLEGE and he's playing football. You act like everybody playing for Michgan are made men and he's some sort of Henry Hill snitch cause he grew up in Ohio.
NOW, if he spends 4 or 5 yrs on campus and still feels the same way, we really need to step back and take a look at what we're doing.
The Team, The Team, The Team
So.....you want the coaching staff and team to bully a HS kid who isn't even on the team yet, because he made a stupid comment?
Stadium stairs and seniors are what stupid comments are for.

I don't think Hoke will let this kid talk to the media... like ever...
...therapy.* Talk about conflicted!
*But based upon some of the incredible overreaction on this thread, Dawson may not be the only one that needs to talk some of his issues out!

I could be mistaken, but I think that, in various interviews, Jake Butt and maybe one or two others among the nine signees from yesterday that hail from Ohio have at least talked about growing up Buckeye fans or being fans of that team at some point and they are coming here all the same as well. As others have mentioned, it will likely change once he gets to campus.

There's a difference in growing up an OSU fan and saying you'll be OSU till the day you die. Go back and look at Strobel's comments on being a Buckeye fan.
At least he came here to play school.
Not a big deal. I live in Columbus now and had a decent shot at playing soccer for OSU. If I had, I would have stayed a Michigan fan at heart. That stuff is hard to shake, I was raised on Michigan football, and would have continued to root for Michigan every November.
Hail.
He is just a kid. His tune will change, give him some time.
Ask him again before the season.
Elliot Mealer was a huge buckeye fan before he came here.
"Ohio is like a giant turd that Michigan just can't pinch off"
Honestly, he can be that big of an Ohio fan if he chose Michigan. As a diehard Michigan fan, if I was a recruit and Michigan didn't want me, I would never opt to play for any of Michigan rivals, especially their biggest rival.
Before I came to Michigan, I loved ND. Rocket and Tim Brown were amazing. I went to Catholic schools growing up. You know how long until I became a Michigan fan, when Dez caught the pass from Grbac. Now, I hate ND with a burning passion. People change.
My younger sister was similarly raised as I was as a Michigan fan, but went to Staee and said that she fell in love with sparty football when she went to the first home game her freshman year. People indeed do change.
This kid will also change the first time he gets together with his new team mates. I'm certain of it.
The Team, The Team, The Team
Indeed. Converts are often the most fanatic. I would bet he ends up pouring his heart and soul into everytime he plays ohio.
Yep. I fully expect him to dislike Ohio by the time he graduates. I don't think you can survive in Hoke's program without doing so. Not that he'll hate them with a biting passion, but what is going to think of never wearing red in the facilities? Every team meeting starting with 'Beat Ohio'? This isn't professional sports. There needs to be passion. And if he doesn't have it, he won't survive. Simple as that. But I fully expect him to change once he's on campus for a while.
He's young. He'll learn real quick.

not a problem at all.
I'm so open-minded that I hate everyone who's not as open-minded as me.
It's 18 years of hard coding. He'll change his tune once he gets on campus. This is a non-issue in my book.
I don't want him playing against ohio if he feels that way.

I came to Michigan being a huge Virginia Tech fan my whole life but the more and more Michigan stuff I did, the less and less I care about VT. I think being inundated with Michigan, Reon will end up a Michigan fan. He'll probably still have feelings for OSU, but I have a hard time seeing him wearing an Ohio gear after he finishes 4 (or 5) years here
when another journalist interviews him and he tells about his "foolish, young allegiance to his home state Buckeyes" and proceed to tell how he "experienced the Michigan difference, matured and earned his status as a Michigan Man for life".
Hopefully he avoids any mention of Taylor taping him to the goalpost until he recanted . . .

Honestly don't know how I feel about this. I mean, if he brings his 'A' game week in and out, contributes, and keeps his nose clean, then its fine. But still, its pretty damn awkward. He's going to be in for quite the team orientation come fall camp.
It's been a lot. Its been a roller coaster that for some reason seemed like it would never get good. But you know what? We kept fighting. It's like that old saying goes, "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions." -David Molk
Usually it takes a couple of weeks on campus to figure out who gets the penis shaved into his head during initiation. Fortunately for some other socially inept freshman, that determination has been completed.
I grew up in a Michigan house and was the biggest Michigan fan that you could find. Then I went to OSU... And became an even bigger Michigan fan. I'm not sure what this means, but I feel like it applies in some way.
and your family. I grew up in Ohio and went to OSU. I had the opportunity to do masters work at U of M but ended up at University of Colorado. If I had gone to U of M I would have still been a diehard Buckeye. Loyalty is good and you sir are a fine example.
It will all change naturally. Also I know people who have played at a school and still cheer for other schools in other sports.
If an OSU fan divorces his wife are they still brother and sister?

Different things. He'll be on the field actually competing against OSU. He can't be a fan if both. He can have respect, but that respect needs to have a certain level of hate underneath it.
