renewable season tickets?

So I went to the mailbox today and noticed a yellow envelope from the University of Michigan. I received an offer for the all-in package this year last week, so I wasn't sure what to expect from the envelope.  I opened it and the letter stated that they could offer season tickets to Victors club members in the arsity level ($100-499).  I gave my first and only donation last year of $400.  It said that I could get tickets in the blue tier with an annual donation of 125 per seat each year.  I guess my questions are did I really get an offer for renewable tickets after only 1 year on the wait list and only a $400 donation?  Also am able say I want endzone season tickets instead of being the blue section?  And finally my form allows me extra tickets to the mass.,bowling green, Indiana and Purdue games.  What do I need to do to get extra tickets to the state game or any of the other big ten games.  Do those go to individuals that have donated more?  I am just a bit surprised I got this offer much sooner than expected.

It doesn't matter how long you've been on the waitlist. It only took me 1 year as well and I'm all the way down in row 1. What they do is tier all the donations and then rank you by priority points so you want to be in the highest tier possible. In a better economy it used to take up to 10 years with a $1000 donation every year to get season tix so thank this down economy. As for extra tickets to other games just check your email. They give season ticket holders first priority for any extras as well as away games. Congrats on the tickets! See you in the big house this fall!

I really didn't think it was the real deal but it stated in the letter "pleased to offer ou season tickets located in the blue tier for 2010 Michigan football season with annual renewal privileges under our preferred seating program" I think this is where I may have shed a tear, but I am gonna say my allergies were acting up.  I just want the endzone seats around row 40-50.

If you’d prefer Endzone seating over the Blue tier I would suggest calling into the UM ticket office and reviewing this with them.  In all actuality the Blue tier is considered the better seating area. I’m assuming due to your $400 donation you were offered this option opposed to Endzone seating which you probably would have scored with a $100 donation.  As you noted in your post to renew Blue tier seating on a year to year basis you need to make an annual PSD (preferred seating donation) of $125 a seat, but for Endzone seating that amount goes down to $50 a seat. It’s also worth noting if you only donate the $50 per seat next year as opposed to $125 they could move you into the Endzone seating due to you not submitting enough in PSD funds. Based on experience it’s unlikely as even though you’d think they’d be patrolling the donations limits they’d much rather not deal with moving people.  I’ve been donating $75 a year is PSD funds and still have maintained my Blue tier seating.  Nothing like 50% off.  If you don’t mind me asking what general area in the Blue tier have they offered you? I’m in the Blue tier, but higher than I’d like to be and have tried numerous times to request lower seating without any luck.

I've read the season ticket guidelines on mgoblue.com several times and always find them rather vague.  I just joined the waitlist a few weeks ago and haven't donated any money yet.  I have season tickets for this coming season so I'm okay for now, but is there a timeline for donations in terms of when they have to be made to be eligible to buy tickets for next season and subsequent seasons?  Realistically, how much will I need to donate to "take advantage of the economy" and get tickets?

After the 08 season I donated $300 and got 2 renewable season tickets.  After last year I donated $500 with an additional company match of $500 and I got 2 more renewable season tickets to take my total to 4.  I would think you can still get in next year at $400 or $500, but if they do something crazy and go 9-3 and go to a January bowl game, then forget it.  The minimum will jump back to $1,000 instantly.

Donations have to be made by the end of January, though if you do it before the end of the year you'll be able to immediately take advantage of the tax deduction.

You have to give a minimum of $100 per year to activate/keep active your Victors Club account.  This money donated also counts towards the Preferred Seat Donation ($50 for End Zone seats).

From what I have experienced, giving $100-200 would most likely make you eligible to buy end zone seats.

I think the Victors Club booklet has a pretty good summary of the program...

Everything about acquiring and/or improving season tickets is vague, and if you ask me that’s by design as in my opinion there’s no real rhyme or reason on improving seats etc....but that’s another subject.  For what it’s worth though if you donate $100 this year you’ll get  the option to purchase (2) season tickets.  This is what I did during the Henne and Hart years (so not exactly “down” years) and I waited only (2) years before being offered true season tickets.  During the (2) years in waiting I still went to all the games excluding homecoming as I was offered the “Go Blue Package,” which is now called the “All-In Package,” and now includes homecoming. As far as a timeline you will need to submit your PSD donation by February 15th2011 (this date may have changed to a few days sooner), for the “chance” to be offered 2011-2012 season tickets. Call the ticket office and ask them to send you Form 305220;”Preferred Seat Donation Waiting List & Annual Contribution Form.” After you submit your PSD donation using the above listed form, you will be notified by a yellow envelope with a Block M via mail by the end of April as to what you were awarded be it renewable season tickets or an “All-in” package.  You will then have roughly (2)-(3) weeks to sign up for that option and tickets when then be mailed to you in August.

I got the same offer as mgoblue7 yesterday -- 2 renewable seats in the Blue tier -- but I only donated $100. That was the first time I had donated anything, but I figured this year given the down economy down, the team's record and the fact that a lot of longtime season-ticket holders would be giving up their seats to move up to the skyboxes, I would try it this year. My wife and I are both alumni, so I don't know if the points we get for those helped at all, too.

I got the All-In offer on Friday and was disappointed they weren't renewable, but fortunately I hadn't sent that back before the season-ticket offer arrived yesterday. I was so excited that I submitted my application online before I even realized they were offering me Blue seats -- I saw the description "10 yard line to back of endzone" and interpreted that to mean endzone seats. I'll take those this year, since they don't make you pay a PSD for the first year of tickets, but then depending on what seats they give me, I may switch to endzone for next year to save some money.

From my conversation with the athletic department I found that last year many were given non-renewable ticket offers because the upcoming changes in the stadium. The seatback chairs, the re-numbering of seats, etc is going to change the seating at the stadium. I was told that when season ticket holders did not renew, those were put into a pool for single game or non-renewable tickets so there would be minimal upset when the seats actually did change.

I was also told everything would be on priority points (donations). I had sweet seats and would prefer not to change them, but even at my level I was told the seats were not guaranteed. I went with 4 club seats for next season and that had nearly a 9k annual seat donation not including ticket prices (another $1700).

More donations=better seats.

My issue with seating is that when I donated the minimum $100 a year and was awarded the “Go-Blue” package aka “All-In” package (non renewable seats) a few years back I had the same seats each and every game; I was in the Blue tier  5 rows from the field.  Only reason I’m pointing this out is b/c I know that in some instances the non renewable seats change from game to game.  Now that I’m a season ticket holder and donate more a year (granted 9K is way too rich for me) I’m still in the same section I was in when I had non renewable tickets. Before you mention I have to donate more to get a better section…I know and I’m fine with the section it’s just I’m up in the nose bleed rows with a guy who falls asleep during the game and people who barely get on their feet during 3rddown.  I guess my point is more donations don’t always equate to better seating in regards to improving ones seating within the same PSD level.  I’m tired of calling in and getting the same response year in and year out of…”just put your requests in the comments section of your ticket order and we’ll see what we can do.” I’d rather them say if you make a  (1) time donation of XYZ we’ll move you down into rows 30-50 of your section, and then you can keep those seats.  All in all I’d love to just have my “Go-Blue” seating arrangements again, but they were non renewable even though I had the same seats each game.

One more question--if I buy, say, two seats the first time I am offered a "continuous" opportunity to purchase season tickets, is it possible to add more if/when I have more money? In other words, am I stuck with only two seats for the rest of my life or will I be able to add more later on?

You'll be better and you'll be smarter and more grown-up and a better daughter. . .

Yes, you can always request more tickets. In most cases it will mean a move to get them. I had row 78 tix in the endzone next to the students. my PSD was $0 and I LOVED my seats. Easy in and easy out, concessions and restroom only a few rows down. Then they expanded the student section and I was moved to row 6 near the visitors. I hated these seats. I gave a little money and was moved to the 25 yard line (row 32). I have friends that gave big contributions and got 50 yard line seats under the press box, but they too were told that once the stadium project was finished there was no guarantee on seats any longer.

I contended that if I was happy with my seats, I would keep my current PSD and never increase my giving as long as I was happy with my seats. Just like the old folks do that sit on the 50. I was very clearly told "no". No seat in the big house (execpt for family of players) will be safe. There is no guarantee that you will have your same seats year-to-year and it is all based on priority points. The same applies for parking passes. It is very difficult to get the Blue lot pass (Chrisler) and with the new suites and club seats, if you don't have those seats you won't ever get into the Chrisler lot.

Remember that 80% of your PSD is tax deductible and counts toward your priority points. So for 1 point for every 100 dollars, the current non-club/suite ticket holders will be out of the Blue lot in 2 years. The athletic dept says it will only review points every 2 years.

I don't know if that helps anyone but it's all I know about the ticket situation.

2 items below:  helping others determine priority points to get renewable ticket offer and also what to do if you got both all-in and renewable ticket offers.

Priority Points: I'm an alum (5 points) and joined the Victor's club in December 2009 with either a $100 or $150 donation (I don't have my checkbook on me to verify which it was, either way it's worth 1 point).  I had student tickets for 4 years in football and 2 years in basketball (not sure if those get you points or not, but if they do, that's worth 6 points).  I had the All-in package last year (1 point).  So I've got either 7 points or 13 points.

Last week I received an offer for an All-In (non-renewable) ticket package.  Being excited and figuring I wouldn't get a renewable offer, I went ahead and purchased 2 All-In season tickets on Monday.  Lo and behold on Tuesday I receive an offer to purchase 2 Blue Tier (10 yard line to back of end zone) renewable tickets.  A distressed, I just called the ticket office and they said that they could switch my All-In package to the renewable season tickets!  The lady on the phone was very kind and helpful.  I'm just waiting for an email confirmation that the ticket office manager that this change has been processed.  No extra steps needed to be taken (or more importantly paid for!).

'M-Burns', I'll never have better facial hair than this...
