Remember yourselves today, gentlemen

Submitted by Six Zero on

Just a quick thought to share with all of you this fantastic Signing Day morning:

These are young men making huge decisions, easily the most monumental choice they've had to make in their lives. Today's signing will be, for all of them, a key factor in shaping the rest of their athletic careers, academic careers, social lives, and professional network. They've worked hard to get the offer, and they've probably struggled a bit with the final decision. After all, wouldn't you if you were in their shoes.

Either way, they've earned this day. Let them have it. Welcome them to the maize and blue. Show them that they made the right choice. Lambasting an 18-yr old over a star that he may or may not have earned from some guy in a suit that he's never heard of is not something any of them deserve. They may or may not personally read this blog, but either way it's likely a friend or family member will, and would you want to be told that the fan base of the school you chose cut you up instead of confirming all of the thoughts that led you to your final decision?

Remember, every one of these kids is luckier than every one of us... because this summer they will have the honor of wearing the winged helmet of Michigan.

I wish you all a happy National Signing Day

I would also propose an addendum to this:

If any kid we thought we may get (like Sean Parker) commits elsewhere, or a kid that had verbally committed to us should sign somewhere else, lets try to avoid attacking the kid's character or his choice. To you, and to me, U of M is the best school in the country - hundreds and thousands and millions of good, smart people have a differing opinion. If any kid you're hoping to land goes elsewhere, merely wish them well. Don't accuse other schools, coaches, or players of wrong-doing - we've got a few of our own verbal recruits right now who had verballed elsewhere - Black, Ash, Rogers.

It's just college football to us. To them it's the most important decision of their young lives. It's not worth working yourself into a state of apoplexy over the fact that some kid in CA or FLA or OH chooses to go someplace else. My view has always been that I'm only interested in kids who WANT to come to the University of Michigan. As for kids who are sweet-talked and pleaded with and cajoled on bended knee to attend one of the best universities on the planet and get a degree (without having to pay tuition) and play football in front of the largest crowd in the country, and still don't WANT to come here, it wasn't meant to be, and good luck.

Couldn't have said it better! I will welcome ever letter we get and for those we don't I wish them luck wherever they go. They are just kids and owe us nothing but they come here and work their a**es off so we owe them a lot of respect and gratitude for making our time spent enjoying this university and its teams more enjoyable one. Congradulation to all the players who signed anywhere today especially Michigan. It is a great accomplishment so be proud.

Is it just coincidence, or are the most intelligent posts written before 9 AM on this board? I enjoy reading the thoughts of our more seasoned members. Thanks!

Happy Signing Day!!

Beautiful. There will be plenty of time for critiquing gameplay, etc. in the future, but today that is irrelevant. Today they become Michigan Men by name, and we welcome them and encourage them to become Michigan Men by their actions.

ah, the dreaded "you're a pussy/woman/girl/my Mom" comeback. I have never seen that before on the internet, Bouje. Well played, sir. I am humiliated and humbled, now unsure of my manhood.
