Remain Calm

Submitted by NorCalGoBloo on
Greetings, internet. I don't post very often, but I do read a great deal of the content on this here blog. I'm going to say this as even-toned as possible. Remain calm. Please remember, nothing that was revealed today changed the fact that the future of Michigan's football program, and that of the people who run it, will be decided on the field in 2010 and (hopefully) 2011. Rich still needs to win, as he did before today's presser. If he does, I have a Raback Omaba-level confidence that this latest unpleasantness will evaporate. It's the off-season, people are pretty bored. I understand this. But for the sake of sanity, FOR THE CHILDREN, please, remain calm. If you feel too passionately one way or the other, perhaps a little vacation from posting or from the subject in general would be well advised. Otherwise, hold your head up high, grin and bear it, because it's another 6 months 'til kick-off. Godspeed. Humbly yours, Anonymous Internet Drone NorCalGoBloo

To me it seems like the media/public is making a bigger deal out of this than what it is. -UofM broke some rules, the school must deal with it now. -The Freep had irresponsible and unethical journalism, but that doesn't take away from the fact that UofM was in fact breaking some rules. -All in all, these violations appear to not be a big deal. Lets take whatever punishment fits, fix the problem and move on. -We have a good chance to get back to a bowl game, I am excited for next year. -Morgan Trent has a lot of "inside info" being a former player and all....and therefore has the right to state his opinion, I wish that he could be more specific though, as to cut out speculation.

I recommend a temporary freeze on all Mgoblog content, with the only accessible item being one "Midget Porn" video embedded on the main page. Give everyone about 15 minutes for a laugh and whatever else you're into doing, and we all should return in good spirits.

English subs on that Iowa K-Pop video. If the weapon's grade perky contained in that video can't cheer you up, nothing can. Edit: ...and the still shows "Don't think of me as a younger sister". Perfect.

Brandon, Coleman, and RR are maintaining an air of seriousness just to show deference to the NCAA. For real people, this is not serious. It's a joke. Borton said it better than I can, so I won't put together an argument, but rather repeat his point, "are you serious?" Step back and put this in a broader moral perspective: we worked a little too hard. We didn't pay student athletes; we didn't doctor academic records; we didn't compromise the integrity of the sport. This will have zero tangible consequences. Take a deep breath, pour yourself a scotch, play with your kids, and let the Freep et al roll around in their own shit with this, out of view.

As far as I can tell, the only damage done 'on the ground' was QC coaches giving advice on warm-up techniques, giving advice on football plays/techniques, and watching game film; Barwis punishing players for not attending summer class; and counting stretching as non-countable for 1 day a week. Can't imagine any serious repercussions from that.

It made no sense why people's first reaction was to freak out. Maybe everyone is so used to doing it that it seems like the only natural reaction? The Mgoblog community is becoming too hormonal. Like a bunch of girly men. Let's make a collective effort to avoid having meltdowns over stupid shit. Please.

Well seeing how we don't know yet the true ramifications of these infractions yet, yes, we need to chill the fuck out. Who knows what to expect, but in the meantime, We're still Michigan, and that's all that matters right now. Circle the wagons (like always) and remember that we are among friends here.

"You want to know about [quality control staffers attending practices]? On the record I tell you that I discourage the practice in accordance with the [NCAA] directive. Off the record I tell you that it's an invaluable part of [major college football], and if it happens to go on without my knowledge, so be it. I run my [program] how I run my [program]. You want to investigate me, roll the dice and take your chances. I eat breakfast 80 [miles] away from [10 million Ohioans] who are trained to [hate] me. So don't for one second think you're gonna come down here, flash a badge, and make me nervous."

I fully intend to panic and have no intention of letting some anonymous message board poster from stopping me with such trivialities as reasonable arguments, thank you very much.

THIS IS NOT A TIME FOR BEING LEVEL-HEADED AND REASONABLE--NOW IS TIME TO PANIC, DEVELOP BETTER AND MORE ENTERTAINING CONSPIRACY THEORIES, AND RUN DOWN THE STREETS PROCLAIMING THE END OF THE WORLD! (in all caps) I am certain I am going to wake up tomorrow and it will be New Years Day 1997 and all will be well...
