Regents OK football performance center in Oosterbaan Field House

Submitted by Maizen on

The $21 million project calls for a 32,000-square-foot performance center to be built within the 78,000 square-foot field house, which will be used for strength and conditioning training for the football program. The project also calls for the addition of a 5,000-square-foot mezzanine level.

You may be right in theory, but in reality you can't tell people how to spend their money. This weight room is mostly funded by donations.

Should I be pissed at Stephen Ross for throwing $100 million at the business school? No it's his hard earned money and he can do whatever he wants with it.

with people and how they spend their money.  But, I can see the big picture and why some people might question spending money in this fashion.  I love sports and especially college football.

I even agree we do need a new weight room to keep up with other programs. But, I sometimes wonder where our priorities with the kind of money spent on sports. I also don't make fun of people who would look at this expenditure and say wow that money could be used for a lot better stuff. I see both sides of the equation.

As we know, in the entire world, there is only $21 million.  All the world's money is going to fund this facility, leaving none for anything else, including cancer research.  It is literally impossible to pay for this and support any charitable causes.

I actually do donate to cancer research. I have a lot of friends and family who have suffered from it.  And if I had a choice to put disposable income towards curing cancer or a weight room, well I would put it towards curing cancer. Life is not all about sports.

With SEC bagmen is to one up them everywhere else. Biggest stadium, best indoor practice facility, state of the art performance center, superior academic counseling, trips to Europe...
