Per twitter, new HD scoreboards!

RT @davebrandonad: Want High Def quick? Regents just approved new scoreboards for Michigan Stadium, Crisler and Yost for next season!

...and there was much rejoicing.

But that also pretty much guarantees they're re-using the same structures at the Big House, so no Godzillatron (yet).

Yost and Crisler definitely need new structures though, the current ones aren't big enough to do HD justice.

Chengelis tweeted that the new scoreboards will be 40% larger than the old score boards and that the new scoreboards would be all video board.  She said that brandon explicitly pointed out that the old scoreboards are only 1/3 video.  It all seemed to imply that it would be video that is 40% larger than the entire old scoreboards.

So glad Yost was included in the scoreboard upgrades. The current ones are atrocious, although the penalty graphics are hilarious. Completely agree, video capability is a must, and should've been added in years ago.

In comparison to most other big time CFB stadiums our scoreboards are extremely small.  Not to mention UM has the biggest stadium so I would think the scoreboards need to be at least as big as most others if not bigger.  Side note, this line of thought excludes UT's scoreboard.

UT's scoreboard is 55.5' x 134' (7437 sq ft); is 238% the size of our current scoreboards (40 x 78 - 3120 sq ft); and cost $8 million in 2006.

DB stated that the new scoreboards were going to be approx. 30-40% larger than the current boards or 4056 - 4368 sq ft for approx. $10 million each.

Not that two 43' x 102' scoreboards (just a guess based on UT's 11x27 dimensions) are inadequate, but couldn't we get the same exact boards Daktronics made for UT for $20MM?

If it's a matter of timing, I would rather wait a year and have two huge boards rather than pushing two smaller boards to get them in for the 2011 season.

I learned the hard way that an increased PSD donation seeking upgraded seats means only that you have paid the minimum PSD for better seats...not that you'll necessarily be able to get those seats.  The added donation will improve your point total, so that in twenty years, you can get better seats.  This year will also be harder for upgrades because we have ND, Neb and OSU at home (plus excitement about a new coach).  The best chance for upgrades comes in the MSU year (as that's the only "big" home game).  That being said...I hope I'm wrong and you get some great seats.

Although he may have bungled "the process" in the coach search, other than that, I have been pretty happy with Brandon as AD.
