Regents approve baseball & softball Turf fields, massive field hockey renovations

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on
Another phenomenal facility upgrade. Ray Fisher Stadium and Alumni Field getting turf fields is huge news. No more game cancellations due to bad field conditions. Nice looking block M behind home plate possibly. And saying Ocker Field needed a renovation is an understatement of the year. Going from just a field with stands to a facility. Now there will be ability to broadcast games with these new upgrades which will help recruiting. http://www.mgoblue.com/genrel/051613aaf.html

Both the indoor track building and Ferry Field are being demolished in 2015. There will be a new indoor and outdoor track facility out by the Soccer and Tennis facilities.

Sadly good old Ferry Field is going to be turned into a parking lot. Cliff Keen is being demolished in 2017 and a new arena will be built. This all per the "Support" site on MGoBlue.com

Say a regular student wants to run on a track. There aren't any options now left on south campus. Non-athletes are not allowed to use the athletic fields when not in use. What's left or them?

/still bitter about being kicked and threatened with calling the police for running on the football practice field when the gate was open.

....portion of the field at Ray Fisher and Alumin Field?  Will these be real dirt cut-outs around a traditional infield or base areas? Or will they do they take the still-getting-used-to-approach of inserting brown Field Turf to simulate infield dirt ala Indiana or Minnesota?

I can't imagine any baseball player worth his salt would want to spend his college career playing on a turf field. I suppose we'll see how this all works out...

Granted I know why some areas like to do this because of weather etc. but baseball was meant to play on Real Grass and not synthetic turf. I'm still miffed the football team went w sports turf.
