I am anxious to hear the details.

So much work needs to be done to it to bring it up to today's standards. I am really hoping it ends up beautiful and can be an asset instead of a hindrance while recruiting.

while making the seats way more comfortable and roomy. Additionally they should lower ticket prices. We never fill er up so make the experience more enjoyable and intimate for those of us who do go.

This is great news. I'd be ok with them reducing capacity, but hopefully this will help put a product on the court that would fill up the arena no matter how many seats there are.

Nicely done DB.

Press Release:

Board of Regents Approve Phase 2 of Crisler Arena Renovations

ANN ARBOR --The University of Michigan Board of Regents today (Jan. 20) approved the second phase of renovations and an expansion of Crisler Arena.

“The renovations will take our classic facility and make it a first-class, modern venue that will be among the best in the country,” said Athletic Director Dave Brandon. “Our goal is to create a home court advantage for our teams while making the fan experience memorable from the moment they walk into the arena.”

The expansion will add approximately 63,000 gross square feet for new fan entrances, additional retail spaces and ticketing areas, as well as a private club space.

The renovation will improve seating for people with disabilities and provide expanded and renovated concourses to allow for an increase in restrooms, concessions and other fan amenities. All seats throughout the arena will be replaced.

Athletic resources and gifts will fund the $52 million project. The construction schedule for the second phase will be presented to the Regents when approval is sought for the schematic design.

TMP Architecture, assisted by Sink Combs Dethlefs, will begin the design work immediately. Those firms designed the new $23.2 million Basketball Player Development Center, which is scheduled to be completed later this year.

In October 2010, the Board of Regents approved the first phase of the Crisler renovation at a cost of $20 million. This first phase addresses the highest priority infrastructure needs such as repair of the roof, electrical, plumbing and air handling systems.

During the last decade, improvements to Crisler Arena have included renovations to the men's and women's locker rooms, new lighting and sound systems, installation of courtside seating and updates to the strength and conditioning areas.

Construction of Crisler Arena was initially completed in 1968.

I don't mean landscaping outside. And I don't mean more shots from behind the arc.

What Crisler really needs are some big bad boys to be bangin' on the inside with the rest of the big 10. I'm all for upgrades of the arena, but we need to upgrade some playaz!

have practice facility but it's going as of now.  Crisler definitely need a face lift, they're a dump by Michigan standards.  There are tons of basketball arenas that I would choose over Crisler.

Once both of it are done, it will help recruiting.  That's an understatement.  Basketball recruits are more into facilities, uniforms and winning.  As of now, Michigan has none.

Don't waste the $100 M or whatever on renovations, just build a new arena next to it in the parking lot.  All the money in the world couldn't turn that dump into a home court advantage.

this will definitely help with recruiting. we have nailed two solid recruits next season, just need to start competing in bigger games and winning them as well. once we can start doing that....good bye little brother.
