Red Wings - Wild Open Thread

Big game today. A win puts us 6 pts ahead of Calgary for the 8th spot in the west and would put us in a tie for 7th with Colorado. Free (!) stream here courtesy of yahoo sports: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/hockeynight/2010032605;_ylt=AmogxGeypF4HbM5… Let's get our domination of the state of Minnesota started a night early (Bemidji St is based in MN). Go Wings! Also, happy beat the crap out of claude lemieux day!

For some reason Fox Sports Detroit is broadcasting the Pistons/Nets game on the main channel. That makes no sense to me, why in the hell would anyone want to watch that garbage game between the cellar dweller pistons and the historically bad nets over an important Wings game?

Man these Wings are looking fucking amazing lately. A win tonight and tomorrow and we're tied with Nashville, who is currently ahead of us in the division and 5th in the West. If I'm Chicago, SJ, Phoenix, or Vancouver, I am DESPERATELY hoping that I don't have to run into this team in the first round after such a successful regular season. It's nice for the Wings to be hitting their stride and playing meaningful hockey entering the playoffs, when they are used to being a top seed and resting players.

Yeah it was! For those who don't know what he's talking about, H2h is a joint effort between the top Red Wings blogs to raise money to bring a Brazilian blogger to his first hockey game at the Joe. They raised, in all, 5 times their target, and donated the rest to a childrens hospital. I was covering this last night for Michigan Hockey. There had to be 100 bloggers there. It felt weird being in reporter shoes around the living blogosphere, where a guy with a recording device and a notepad is kind of a pariah.. I wanted to wear a sign that said "I'm not Rosenberg! I wrote the Decimated Defense!"I got to monopolize Herm for a while last night after the game and he's a great guy. Kudos to sometime-MGoPoster Chollis, who is part of the 3-man team at The Production Line, who helped organize this. Maybe MgoBlog should do this too - we've got Brazilians, right?

We should do this but send them to a Michigan football game next fall. I would love to send them to a Michigan hockey game but it is the postseason and the team's existence this season is game by game. If we raise more than enough we should donate the remainder to Mott's. edit: Or we can send to the Big Chill game, although a game at Yost is preferable. One does not get the feel for the game at an outdoor game with the crappy sight lines.

And another! Datsyuk banks it in off of the skate of a Minnesota player with the Wild goalie scrambling. Officially Datsyuk from Franzen and Ericsson. 4-0 Wings!

That was the best 20 minutes of hockey I have seen the Wings play this year. (Missed the game vs. Chicago) Unfortunately, Cleary aggravated his groin injury and Lilly-pads is getting pwned out there.

Watching the NHL network and they had the great one on talking about some of the top players in the league and what he likes out of a player and he mentioned zetterberg as a player he enjoys watching because of "how hard he plays and that he is great on both sides of the ice." he also mentioned yzerman

The Red Wings are 2 points out of the FIVE (yes you read that right) seed.... look, I always thought they were going to make the playoffs...but they have a chance at the five seed?!?! that blows my mind. this team is on an absolute tear. a long run in the playoffs is a very realistic possibility...and i could not be more excited...

we have Mike Babcock as our coach. When your coach's hair is that perfect, consistently, there is NOTHING that cannot be done. Aside from that, Babs is pretty good at coaching too. I forget which game it was before in the olympics, but the announcers were talking to a player about Babcock and the player talked about how his systems were the best and just so hard to beat. And how he's the best coach in the NHL. I think it was a USA player that was not Rafalski, but I could be wrong. Obviously that's a ton of fluff, but still awesome. I'm a big Mike Babcock fan. To the point where if, for whatever reason, Dave Brandon didn't make Mel the coach when Red retires (please make Mel the next coach when Red retires (please Red, never retire)), I would be OK with Mike Babcock as our coach instead. Shocking, I know.
